Sri Muthukumaraswamy Devasthanam popularly known as Kandaswamy temple or KandaKottam is one of the famous temple in Chennai City. It is near Madras Central Railway Station. The area covered by the temple is about eight acres. As per the history of the temple, two ardent devotees of Lord Muruga Thiru Mari Chetty and Thiru Kandapandaram, when they visited Tirupporur Murugan temple, tired & slumbering, they had a divine dream in which Lord Muruga appeared and informed them that they would find an idol of Himself in an ant-hill on the tank bund, Accordingly the two devotees discovered the idol and brought it to Madras .The idol is two feat high and Sri Valli and Sri Deivayanai are on either side ago this presiding deity. The temple has Sri Kulakkarai Vinayagar with Siddhi and Buddhi as his consort’s shrine, Near this Vinayagar shrine there is also a separate shrine for Sri Kasi Viswanathar and Goddess Visalakshi.THis temple is one of the 1000 Murugan / Subhramanya temples in India. Must have darshan.
