(Thirukadaiyur is a famous temple town near Mayiladuthurai which is considered to be the apt place for conducting Shastiabthapoorthi (60th Birthday).The Legend of the actual Thirukadaiyur -It is a Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam. According to legend, during samudra manthana Sri Ganesha stole the pot of Amrita and hid it in Thirukkadaiyur. Sri Ganesha also worshipped a Shiva Lingam with some Amrita and so the Shiva Lingam came to be known as Amritaghateswarar (Amrita means nectar and Ghata means pot). Thirukkadaiyur is also the place where Lord Shiva is said to have saved His devotee Markandeya from the clutches of Yama on the day of his death. Thirukkadaiyur is also the place where the devotee Abirami Pattar sang the Abirami Antati, a hundred praises of Mother Abirami, whereby the Divine Mother appeared before him and saved him from the clutches of death.So the Chennai Thirukadaiyur temple faces west and has a small Gopuram.. The main shrine of Amridhagadeswarar faces the east direction.The Goddess Abhirami is found in a separate south facing shrine. Both Amirdhagadeswarar and Abhirami have separate Nandi idols placed in front of their respectiveshrines. Usually, we don’t find Nandi in front of Goddess in Chennai region.In the ghostam you can see Ganesha, Dakshinamurti, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga. There are separate Sannidhis for Ganesha, Subramanya-Valli-Devasena, Ayyappa, Chandikeshwara, Balaji-Padmavathi, Garuda, Hanuman, Surya, Chandra, Navagraha, Natarajar, Bhairava, and Nalvar.A big temple pond is found within the temple complex. The holy tree and few serpent (Naga) idols beneath that are also located within the temple. Abirami Amman is seen holding a sugarcane as elsewhere. Separate shrines for Lord Shiva and Devi are seen. Shasti Poorthi(60 yrs of married life) Pooja is done here like Thirukadaiyur Annai Abirami temple. For this pre booking with the temple adminstration has to be done.

The temple is moderate but deity Abhirami Amman just stole heart. Shes absolutely the same as in thirukadaiyur. Must visit temple.They do sashtiapthapoorthi, bheemaratha santhi and sathapishekam. Ensure the appointment is taken before doing it so.Templ time 6am to 10.30 am and 5.30 pm to 8 pm

It is a very old temple well maintained today we did abhisekam to lord Shiva and abirami amman the archagar did it very well. He gave a stool to the elderly woman to see abhisekam . To mention we had the opportunity to see abhisekam of lord muruga since it is thaikiruthigai and the nadhaswara vidwan attached to the temple gave a great performance he started playing kandha sashimi kavacham and it was great and mesmerizing

Thirukkadaiyur is very familiar for doing Manivizha, Sastiaptha poorthy,( completion of 60 th birth day) Diamond Jubilee (75th birthday) and Sadhabishekam, ( starting of 80 th birthday). Those who cannot go to Thirukkadaiyur may do the above at this place.

Calm Siva temple in Selaiyur. There is small temples for all other Gods too. Prathosam pooja is done in grant manner here. I think they do 60th Age Marriage. Timings: Morning 7 - 10:30 am (Friday until 11 am) am Evening 5 - 8:30 pm.
