Presiding deity Lord Kailasanathar and his consort Goddess Karpagambal is divine, beautiful and graceful. Lord Kailasanathar is big and majestic.Religious rituals such as poojas and abhishekams are performed on the deity everyday.Historical inscriptions reveal that this temple had been built by the Pallavas in 610 AD.Devotees can meditate peacefully here. Must visit temple.

An excellent history erased in the name of renovation. Visited the temple years ago. At that time there were do many signatures of this temple being built by Nandhivarma pallava. Now there are only two lion entry pillars kept at the south side entrance. The original small nsndhi moved away and kept amoung trash. Place has been transformed from a heritage structure to a religious one in less than a decade.

A calm and serene Shiva temple. Supposedly the temple is 1000+ yrs old but has been renovated and has tiled floors. I wish they had used stone/other materials used in temples earlier. The priests, unlike quite a few places are friendly & dont pound you for money. A nice & rejuvenating place to spend the evening.

Such an ancient temple in a corner of North Madras, who wouldve even thought this temple would be around 1300 years old. Wonderful atmosphere, has the sense of calm in the temple. Huge shiva linga, a sight to behold. Restoration work meant that all the stone structures had to be taken off and replaced with cement..wish it still had the old rock carvings ..must visit , not only shiva linga alot of deities are situated in the temple . Must visit just to witness the beauty of the huge lingam.

Sri Karpagambal Samedha Sri Kailasanathar Temple Madhavaram ChennaiIt is said that in ancient days this place had a place called ‘Brigudharanyam’ filled with kadhambam trees. It is belived that lord Shiva and Parvathi have meditated seated separately at this place. Also in later times sage Vyasar and other rishis have sat here and meditated and achieved bliss. Meditation in Tamil means ‘Thavam’. So, as this place was blessed by lord himself by meditating here with his consort and also many Rishis too have done Thavam here this place was called ‘Maha Thava Puram’ which in days became Madhavaram. It is belived by the devotees that praying this lord here has helped many childless couples to have kids and kids who have speaking disabilities gets cured by worshipping Sri Kailasanadhar here along with Karpagambal.A huge and Ancient temple built by Pallavas and could be around 1500 yrs old. Kumbhabhishekam has been performed in recent years. Besides Kailasanathar and Karpagambal,, Vinayahar, Muruga Peruman along with Valli Dhevayani, Gajalakshmi and Sarabeahwarar,Ayyappan, Anjaneyar and Byravar Sannidhi can be seen. Also you can see all 12 Jyothirlingams here.

Temple of Mythology and DignityIn mythology, the Shiva couple sat alone and meditated in the Kathamba forest known as Brithukharanyam. In the sacred place where Lord Shiva and Parvati were lodged, the sages, including Vyasar, later attained bliss. Lord Shiva, the sacred land of the Rishis, is called the Magadhavapuram samba and the Ekadheera Chaturvedi Mangalam sima. That is what Maruvi is now known as Madhavapuram. On this earth of mythological glory, Nandivarmab Pallavan II is the one who is blessed with the construction of a temple for Jesus and Peru. This king was the descendant of Narasimha Pallava, the Pallava emperor who founded the magnificent temples called Mamallapuram. A gang of robbers was involved in the area at the time. He was departed to suppress them, Nandivarman II.The king stayed in this tired area. He also worshiped the Shiva Lingam worshiped by the Rishis in the open air and chased away the mob. He then erected a temple in which the Rishis worshiped an emerald lingam. According to one of the Nandivarman Seppadu II, the goddess Kailalayanathar built the temple at Mahakavapuram at the command of the goddess. The temple is 1,400 years old. The Pallavar kalak temple is a seated lion on the stone pillars of the dwarves (squat lions). The monument can still be seen near the south gate of the temple, opposite Ambal Sunni. It is said that those who came after the Pallavas may have formed human divers. The temple is located east of Madhavaram town. The emerald Shivalingam, the original, is 4½ feet high and 11¼ feet in circumference with a circular pedestal. Karlakambal sits with a kolam in the south-facing sanctum to the left of Kailalayanathar. There are 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to individual shrines. There are also Kasivisvanathar, Sarabesvara, Dakshinamoorthy, Durga, Iyappan and Anjaneyar sannidhis. Here, when the anointing of the emerald lingam on Pradosha day, a torch is said to emerge from the lingam. There is a large number of devotees who are eager to see it. If you worship Kailayanatha on Pradosha day, all things will go hand in hand. Madhavaram Kailayanathar is the person who is sitting close to the rulers.Kaiyalampathi, the wife of Lord Shiva in this sacrament of confession with his wife will soon be blessed. It is the pilgrims belief that children who have lost speech will be able to speak.Madhavaram Kailayanathar Thirilalam is known as the temple code at the head of the temple, the temple idol in the middle of the Shivaliyam time in Pullam area and the temple symbol in the shivayam at Thirumullavai river. It is great to visit these three temples in one day.
