This hall is shown in bollywood movie NAAYAK (2001) as chief minister office.

Only went for condolences .. this area need to change for some other useful vists too.

Century old place and structure . Structure looks stunning with big pillars and tall doors. Need some good maintenance from government side.

What is the purpose for this building?

Always locked. No visitors allowed inside the building. Mostly we saw this building in movies. But we can enjoy the views and structure of building from out side.

It has a place in the history

The building rajaji hall was constructed during 1800&1802 to commoratte the Victory of the British over Tipu sultan in the IVth Anglo Mysore war. The hall renamed after the independence. The convocation of Madras University took place during 1857 to 1879 till the Senate house Was constructed.

One of the well known building in Chennai... Nowdays not in operated.. some of the film shooting happened outside the building..
