Centre of Excellence in Hydrodynamic Facilities. We have a Multi Element Wave Maker which can generate a 2D and 3D waves. That means short or long crested random or irregular waves with direction can be generated towards model.Shallow Wave Maker with 60cm depth for physical model testing facility2m and 4m wide wave flumes with different water depth with and without current facilities for 2D model testing.Towing Carriage is having 5m/sec velo ity speed is very useful for ship model resistance and propeller testing.The above facilities are added to this dept since 1980 one by one till now.Apart from the above the Instrumentation laboratory is fully equipped with sensors and amplifier etc, with the partial support from GTZ, Germany.

The Department is to act as a Center of Excellence for advancing the frontiers of science and to provide Break-through Technology as well as to develop education and training programs in the field of Ocean Engineering.,The Department has laboratory area of 3000m2 and a highly specialized faculty numbering 20 with adequate support from technical and administrative staff.

Good lab facilities but old 🏢

From 1995 to 1996 I did my research here on the then new wave pool. An interesting and educational time. The IIT Madras is great!
