Was here last week after enough permutations and combinations for choosing a restaurant. We finally decided on this place after reading reviews and as a matter of fact something that actually prompted us was the Dineout offer which was buy one dish and get other free.It’s located inside the Russian embassy, so finding the place is never going to be a problem, just that only cars are allowed inside and bikes have to be parked outside. Atleast to the looks of it that was what I assumed.It looks very decent from the outside, luxury written all over it with the colours and lighting’s giving it a rich feel. It got us excited to try the food and it was a long time since I had something different from the normal South Indian food. This place offers continental and Russian cuisine. The ambience was very pleasing, even Though it looks like a old place that was newly renovated, it still holds its charm. It was clean, soothing music and welcoming staffs are all positives. All these increased the appetite wanting to taste the food immediately.For soups we wanted the beef borscht, which unfortunately wasn’t unavailable and ended up having the Thai coconut with prawns costing 230₹. It was amazing, it was finger licking good, the prawns were very well cooked and the soup was mild but tasted excellent. We even went to the extent of asking for more, but since it was chargeable we unfortunately had to control ourselves. This was an excellent start to our dinner night that started with a bang.For starters we ordered the calamari with onion rings costing 360₹. To be honest, the onion rings were simply delicious, probably the best I had in chennai. The batter was very light with enough spices that wasn’t overdoing and it felt completely fresh and again we enjoyed it with the chilli garlic sauce. However the calamari was a deal crasher. It was rubbery as if it was cooked immediately after taking it from the freezer. It tasted good but the rubbery feel made us not like the dish. Having understood the concern they offered us fresh calamari but again it tasted good but felt rubbery. I wouldn’t call it a disaster but not my cup of tea. We had to return it and our appetiser dream was a wash out.And for mains we ordered the beef stake 550₹ and chicken al a kieu costing 560. It was supposed to be their best dishes as suggested by the waiter and even after our bad start we still were positive and confident with the mains.And it turned out to be a disappointment once again. The stake wasn’t cooked to perfection since at most places I had dined in before the juices simply ooze out and with the mashed potatoes and stake sauce it’s majestic. Here it was dry and lacked flavours. The insides of the stake still needed cooking and the outside portion lacked flavours. Stakes generally have a resting period after they get cooked for the juices to set in. But the one we had wasn’t to be.The chicken which looked like a big potato has butter pouring out when cut into pieces but again lacked flavours and was bland. The sauce they served had mushrooms that were rubbery as if it was frozen before dropping it in the sauce. I knew the food was going to be less spicy, but lacking flavours and with no perfection is not ideal especially for a place like this.I explained them the situation to which they accepted my point of view and offered to cancel the calamari dish which we didn’t even eat and returned except for the onion rings that tasted amazing.The service is slow, so be prepared. The waiters offer the best to choose the dishes and take care of you throughout. Will I go back again? May be not.

Loved the food. We tried many things on the menu and loved them all. Who knew we would love Russian cuisine this much.

The ambience is good, food is fine.The quantity of pasta is much but taste is fine not too good.

A cozy different restaurant. The Thai coconut soup was like thick Kerala/Srilankan coconut Curry. I loved the stuffed Aubergine rolls. We requested the seared prawns to be spicy which they did. There is a lot of meat dishes too. I did not like the eggy flavor of Blini, though the icecream was good

First it looked like a USSR ghost town restaurant, but in time it felt nice. Although there were lot of people and activities in the cultural centre, were the only customer during our visit in this restaurant. Price wise okay.

Good place to have Russian food. Both veg and non veg are good. If you want something spicy then this place is not recommended.

An ideal place if you want to try some different cuisines, in its Authentic form..Serves fresh Russian cuisine at decent price.. Service is good, although waiting time is high...Desserts here are a must try .Ambience is great, especially the outdoor seating...Located inside the Russian consulate, its not easy to locate.. Lot of parking available in road and reservation not needed..

The food is great but the service is a little slow. The ambience is also pleasant. Do try the Chicken Stroganoff!

Although its a Russian restaurant we didnt entirely try the Russian menu. There is one thing that I can vouch for and that is the setup. The ambience is very calm and soothing. We tried Chicken Quesadillas and Russian Nutcrackers if I remember it correctly. There are Italian, French, Labenese and other cuisines available but not really Russian cuisine available so give it a try and obviously the taste is not going to be like other cuisines but give this restaurant a chance.

A cozy and a very private place to have confidential conversations, business meets. Food was very much Russian and they serve descent variety cocktails and mock tails.

Nice place for people who want to try different cusine. I see people complaining about raw fish, what do you expect in a Russian dish? Very friendly staff, if you ask, they help with selecting the item. It was a good experience.

We have visited three times.Few items I would suggest are:1. Chicken Stroganoff (my favourite in pic)2. Kachapuri (must try - a sort of pizza)3. Blini4. Seafood Pasta (I did not try but friend said it was good)5. Beef steak (again I am going with friends review of it)Some desert you should not miss are:1. Napolean Cake (Do not miss it)2. Nut biscuitWe know it is a Russian place but we decided to try the chicken platter. But it was not good. Probably due to my inclination to Arabic grills.All in all a great place to visit with friends and family located inside Russian cultural centre.Note: The items ordered will take about 30 mins from order to serving.The staff are very friendly. Place usually not crowded.

Very different type of food. To be Frank, not so great place for Vegetarian. prime location, Russian Culture centre. Lot of happenings you can see if you pay a visit. Magic show is one of them. Restaurant is ok only.Staff is very nice, but not so appealing. One time. If you are more fancy about Russian Food.

Top class food..no compromise on the quality of food served..superbly delicious.. vegetarians should try the veg. Goulash...amazing food..service can be stepped up a bit though, but in their defence they had a big crowd just before we came.

A place with a pleasant ambience and friendly staff. But food taste is not that great. We ordered Russian seafood salad which is a mixture of shredded carrot, potato, cheese and pickled tuna. Since I dont like tuna taste couldnt enjoy the taste much. Then we ordered Napoleon cake. It had a texture of crusts with little choco lava as a topping. This too didnt taste that great. Not much food choices as well. Except for the ambience nothing is really great here.

A place with peaceful ambience and not advised for vegetarians. One can get any kind of non veg food and alcohol with limited option for vegetarian foods. Russian cuisine. And a very lovely and friendly dog at the outdoor seating. Best place to have the perfect fine dining.

The food was delicious. Its best to go by their recommendations. However, the wash area is outside and the peeling paint on some of the walls gives it a bit of a run down look.

I went here to have the beetroot brosct. It tastes good. The interiors of the restaurant gives you a vintage Russia feel. Authentic ambiance.

Nestled inside the Russian cultural centre, this place is noy easily visible from outside. But once you enter the compound, you will see some outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. The ambiance is good, with Russian songs being played on their sound system at a low volume. They have a pretty big menu with enough variety for everyone. This place is easy on the pocket as well.

Winter Palace is a casual dining restaurant which has carved a niche for an authentic Russian dishes. The all-day dining menu has got so much to offer to its diners. The place has lost its charm and needs a management, cook, and menu makeover. The decor has been recently well done but the menu and service seems to have taken a nosedive. The food choice are very badly maintained, one of the mains we ordered was a Russian khachapuri, which looks like a pizza but is supposed to be Georgian style bread stuffed with sulguni(cheese), got a horrible regular pizza with onion, tomato toppings instead. Not even sure the pizza was even cooked by the chef, suspect if it was ordered from elsewhere, since it took an hour to be served. The other two items ordered were mediocre, the place is deserted most of the time.

Good food, easy on the pocket, chilled out atmosphere. Great place to chill out without the necessity of an air conditioner. Service is relaxed and unhurried but worth the wait.

The ambience of this place is... so la la... uninspired / uninspiring. The service was very good and responsive... food was good, but some of it was (or at least seemed like) convenience food i.e. ordered pre-cooked and not freshly prepared in the kitchen.Overall an okay experience, but with so many choices in Chennai it is not likely that I will come to this place again.

Courteous staff. Decent food. Though this is a Russian restaurant, the seared prawns (made Indian style) was too hard to settle for 1 and we had to order another. Russion items were good as well though I dont really know if it was authentic.

We went on our anniversary expecting a quaint experience. The only good thing to happen was the person who served us and the Virgin mojito. Food took more than 45 minutes to come.

The restaurant was nice. I ordered penne pasta with pesto sauce, it wasnt good. But the salmon steak was perfect!!! I cant have an opinion about the food for now, having tasted only two dishes. But I would recommend, its a place to dine!!!

Had the most amazing plate of food last night. The chicken al a Kiev was amazing the crispy baked chicken flowing with butter accompanied with grilled veggies and creamy mash (Mash was requested) and baked baby potatoes. Kudos to the chef !

This restaurant has beautiful interiors and friendly staff. Its a really nice place to have a quite and enjoyable dinner. The food was delicious. Would recommend this place for a quite evening dinner with family and friends.

The beef stroganoff was the best I have ever tasted. The chicken & beef dumplings were delicious. Loved the ambience. The staff were courteous. Will definitely visit again.

The best place for family dining for Russian food, price normal.

This is less visited but I really felt this place had such a good ambience. The food was so good. I tried their Blini with chicken and mushroom & calamiri fritters. Both were so good.

A beautiful and quite place situated within the walls of the Russian Cultural centre. Anyone who wants to try a different authentic Russian cuisine, this must be the go to place. Must try the Quessadillas!! And dont miss out on the Russian desserts.!Overall, a great new experience.

The restaurant has a nice Russian decor and serves authentic Russian cuisine. Theres good variety and its not too heavy on the pocket. If you want to explore Russian food, you should certainly visit the Winter Palace.

By far, the worst restaurant I have been to! The Napoleon cake was disgusting...neither flaky (as puff pastry should be) nor creamy, but a dense, pathetic square of GodKnowsWhat! The service was horrible and it took nearly 40 minutes for our dessert to arrive. The place was dirty, dingy and smelly. The menus were sticky. And the guy(Wesley) who took our order, told us not to order several items on the menu, because they may be ‘...too Russian’!

The only bad point about the place is that we couldnt find the place easily because the board was too small but the really good service and food made up for it! The ambiance was good and manager was friendly and made it really comfortable for us..!

Absolutely my one of favourite places.Interesting thing is it is not buzzling usually I dont know why but maybe it is not that widely known. Their steak is good and try that huge freshly baked bread with eggs and cheese in it.Must try.

Most underrated restaurant in Chennai. I hear its the only authentic Russian restaurant in the country. For that, the pricing is very reasonable.Be prepared to taste some very different food here. Kvas, Fish on fur, and oh my god their Chicken a la Kiev!

This place used to be good. Its pathetic now. The Manager and the staff do not know the menu and theyve removed s most of the Russian meats. Someone is trying to convert this into an Adyar Vasatha Bhavan type of restaurant?

Nice and quiet place which is really special. I would have say this is a hidden pearl off the beaten track only known to insiders.The menu features some special russian dishes so you can go for pelmeni which are a bit similar like momos.

The worst food in the name of Russian cuisine. Food was cold and soup was literally taste less, moreover staff didnt even apologize after complaining. I paid the whole bill without eating and left. Never gonna recommend it. The ambience was just fine.

Beautiful decor of authentic European style . As you enter the place you get impressed with the ambience and courtesy of staff . Every item I tried from starter to main coarse were very delicious and true continental / Russian . The drinks Red Wine and Russian Vodka served chilled were complementary to the food . The desserts are must try here as all are excellent .I am happy to discover such a nice restaurant in heart of Chennai . Ample space to park your car .
