Open air theatre as the name suggests is an open theatre with capacity of around 10k. Theres huge crowd witnessed here during the annual technical and cultural fests. Theres movie screening on every Saturday. Its ideal for a high level music concert, dance shows as well as movie screening.

Curved screen bigger than multiplex screen, high quality videos, surrounding sounds with high quality....Mood relaxing place.... You will forget about your course tension when you will here.... And the guys will make the mahaol here 😀

Good for medium scale events. It is inside IIT madras campus.For not iitans, cars you can drive till the venue but for 2 wheelers u need t park at the gate and take a bus during events.

Saarang is one of the best times to be in OAT. Had a blast

Watching a movie or a rock show in OAT is awesome. I have watched 100s of movies here as a student. Its open to sky and has cement steps for sitting. Just carry a pillow and youre done. Its an experience to watch movies getting drenched in rain once in a while.

Like food, music and sex, theatre acquires something extra when its enjoyed in the open air. Theres a special chemistry between actors and audience when they can make eye contact

OAT accessible by current employees and students. Alumni are also allowed to get a pass. Can watch most new English, Hindi and South Indian regional language movies. First and fifth weeks of the month Hindi movies are screened. Second and fourth they screen English movies. Guest tickets are available for regular card holders half an hour before the show. For alumni, contact the film club to get season pass.

Best place to watch movies with your friends...

You get to see recent movies every Saturday at 8PM. The ticket costs around 30 rupees. The open climate has its own ambience that you cant get from any other theater. First Saturday Hindi movie, second and fourth Saturday English movie. Third Saturday: Regional language movie( mostly {yes 90%} Tamil, rarely Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada movies. Fun a pillow, sleep on the floor and watch the movie.Some times their projector wont work and as a result , the movie screening gets delayed. Hope they find a solution for this soon

We enjoy a lot when a new movie coming. We waiting for when Saturday will come. But, one problem is that they charger high price for the snacks if we wanna buy. And I feel that sometimes they reduce the volume level after the interval. But, the overall quality of the movie they plays well.

A wonderful place to soak in moonlight and enjoy movie screening with buddies and family.Unlike posh theatres which has cushion chairs, air conditioned and well decorated interiors, OAT gives the advantage of watching movies out-in-the-open with natural breeze. Dont have to worry about stretching legs in between as the leg room is equivalent to lying down comfortably in couch.Free mineral water available. Snacks can be bought at cheaper rates.Disadvantage: mosquitoes. Do apply mosquito repellents before entering OAT

This is IIT Madras Open Air Theater. Every Saturday one movie is screened by iitm movie club for students from 8pm in different languages. Currently ticket cost is 30/person.

Great place for an open air movie experience. This facility is in general only for IIT Madras residents. Members can enjoy the movie free if you have the film card. Non-members will have to pay Rs. 30 for each movie.

Ticket charges are very nominal; for students a movie card is provided at the beginning of semester and for visitors its ₹30/- only. This place is very important for us . Every Saturday we watch movie here , generally it’s recent movie 🎥. It’s big , open , and the experience here is unforgettable. Many other functions also happens here like during annual function SARANG , all nights ( DJ night , rock show , EDM night and popular night ) are organised here only . In one week generally 2 Hollywood movies ,1 Hindi and 1 regional languages(malyalam , tamil, Telugu)movie is being projected . During interval you can get tea ☕️, coffee ☕️, snacks , popcorn 🍿, biscuits 🍪, namkeen etc .
