Following information are collected through books and word of mouth from others.Vivekanandar House in chennai was earlier known as Ice House. In 1842 this building was constructed by Fredrik Tudor who was a British business man to store Ice Blocks. He used to import ice blocks and store it in this building. This building is situated just opposite to Marina Beach (Bay of Bengal). Later in 1880 this building was purchased by an advocate (Madras High Court) called Biligiri Iyengar and did some modifications as residential house.Meanwhile Swamy Vivekananda went to Chicago to participate in FIRST WORLDS PARLIAMENT OF RELIGIONS which was held in 11-Sep-1897. After the successful speech in Chicago, 4 years later he returned to India and reached Chennai in 06-Feb-1897, he was arranged to stay in this house. He was stayed here and delivered some speaches till 14-Feb-1897. 9 Days he has stayed here and Ramakrishna Mutt followers are celebrating those 9 days as (Navarathri). After years later in 1914 TN Govt took this building and used it for running a Training School.12-Jan-1963 was Birth Centinery of Swami Vivekananda and on that day TN Govt arranged some celebrations in this house where he himself stayed here for few days and remand this building as SWAMY VIVEKANANDAR ILLAM (VIVEKANANDA HOUSE) and gave lease to Ramakrishna Mutt to use this as Museum.
