I used to go to this restaurant quite often before covid, I liked how there are a lot of banchans (side dishes) given to us with food ordered, and the food was pretty good too. But when I went today on a Friday night, the serving was so small and doesnt taste authentic at all. The spicy rice cake was not spicy, it didnt taste like any rice cakes Ive had before, the sauce was too sweet. The stir fried squid and pork was terrible, the sauce tasted like instant noodles soup packet, the pork pieces were tiny, and some of the squid pieces were very soft, to the point its a bit mushy. The side dishes werent terrific either, the kimchi is one of the worst Ive had in Sydney. The fried chicken wing was okay. The service was not good also, three staff ignored me when I was standing next to the cash register asking to pay for my bill. The lady who worked there even pushed me, as if I was in the way, they could ask the customers who are waiting to get in to not stand near the exit. I was very disappointed, dont think I will come back again.

Staff and service is amazing too, makes it feel like eating with family.TakeawayMy fav Korean restaurant in Chatswood, even in lockdown I had to grab some takeaway. The best thing about this place is they always provide lots of sides (even for takeaway)!I ordered the seafood pancake as shown in the pic.The pork bone soup is a go to dish here and will definitely go again when we’re out of lockdown.

The soundtrack to our Myeong Dong Korean Restaurant meal was a cacophony of drunken voices, each shrieking over the other to be heard in the deafening space. It’s quite an assault on the senses, and saw me struggling to hear our very patient waiter. We revert to pointing and nodding, and then try to acclimatise by necking shots of Chum Churum soju ($15) with bowls of Kook Soon Dang makgeolli ($15) as chasers. We’d come for banchan—I’d heard this North Strathfield restaurant delivered the biggest range of side dishes—and we were not disappointed. A full tray arrives bearing twelve different sides, ranging from old favourites like kimchi, stir fried glass noodles (japchae) and stir fried fish cake, to the less often found fried tofu, spicy braised potato, and slippery mung bean starch (nokdu-muk). While it would be easy to just gorge on this virtual feast of (mostly) vegan vegetable dishes, you are required to order one dish per person.Crispy K.F.C. ($22/small) comes as a small mound of sticky red chicken wings, that eat sweet but have a good bit of kick on the back palate. Cheese-topped fire chicken ($38) isn’t as generous (or as good) as my benchmark version at Danjee, but it keeps the endorphins moving and prompts me to order more makgeolli to soothe the burn. There was little heat relief in a more-generous pot of boiled down spicy beef ribs with rice cakes ($62). The tteokbokki were perfectly cooked and complemented with glass noodles, wood ear fungus, crunchy green capsicum and tender, well-rendered beef rib under a dusting of sesame seeds. Oversized containers ($2) take the sting out of the spend because you can take home a proper lunch to take to work the next day.

That Korean grandpa was very friendly and nice. Though they were quite busy, rang the bell and never came, but I found this place quite cosy and comfortable. Almost everything we ordered were yum, except the chicken feet. Wish the chicken feet could be more chewy next time. I like the flavour, just the texture was not my favourite.

Great Korean place conveniently located! The side dishes are very generous and delicious! Tried the fried chicken, spicy pan-fried pork and kimchi pancake, all were excellent. For BBQ you must be seated outside so be aware there might be a wait if theyre busy. Typical Korean place where theres for service which is always preferable to putting your hand up, but in any case, service was very good, easygoing but helpful.

One of my favourite korean restaurants in chatswood, they serve you a lot of traditional side dishes for free and their BBQ quality is always to make customers feel great. However, the staffs are not friendly as the owner at the restaurant due to too many customers especially during weekend, from Friday night to Sunday.

This place used to be good but tonight was just horrible. Pork knee soup was tasteless and it was so chewy (not cooked properly) we can’t eat it. Also did BBQ and the beef rib tasted funny. Soy fried chicken has too much sauces too. Only dish that tasted borderline okay was the spicy pork rib soup but even that is full of MSG. Definitely not going back after today. A bit missed and big disappointed with dinner.

Good food, lots of complimentary side dishes which all taste great. Unfortunately they do not take bookings. When I went you had to put down your name for BBQ area or regular food. On a Saturday night I waited about 1 hour, if youre lucky there may be no wait. BBQ meat is standard quality for Korean BBQ and the price you pay. The BBQ is with charcoal coals. I would come back again!

Used to frequent this place in person pre-corona and loved it. Drove 30 mins to pick up takeaway food and was enormously disappointed to get gamjatang that tasted like instant noodle soup like they used ramen seasoning instead of proper broth. The original fried chicken also tasted like it was cooked earlier in the week and they reheated by re-frying it in the oil. Plenty of better quality restaurants to support in these times.

I had heard the Chstswood branch was even better than North Strathfield , so I was keen to go.Bad, bad idea. There were two waiters to serve the entire restaurant, and both were completely overwhelmed.I had to ask for tongs and scissors twice, my companions the same for their drinks. After the meat for barbecue came out (before the sides and the entrée) I had to ask the waiter to bring the grill grate and light the burner. The kitchen was completely chaotic. After an hour we had still not been given our two bowls of rice: at that point we just gave up and cancelled them.I told the waiter that he needed to get a job at a better-run restaurant because he didnt deserve to bear the brunt of the managements ineptitude. With a look of immense relief, he told us he had found a new job and would start it in a couple of days. Good luck to him.Meanwhile, his poor colleague was at the next table taking a complaint from the customers (their food had taken so long to come out, and had come out after tables who had ordered later; two of the party could no longer endure it, and left in disgust; the food was too salty, and lots of other stuff I couldnt hear). By the time I fled, he was still there listening to the complaints. I hope he, too, can find a better job elsewhere. We had sat outside, and the outside area had no extractor fans. Thus the experience was more fumigation than delectation. If you are insane enough to try this place having read the above, do not order barbecue, or sit near others who have done so.Im not even sure how this set-up is legal.Anyway, you get the gist of this review; if you go there you have to be utterly mental.Head to North Strathfield instead.

When this dish was first served, we found that there was no rice cake in it. Another friend says, We ordered less spicy but its too spicy. Then the waiter takes it to the kitchen. The second time we went to the table, we found that there was no rice cake in it, and the dish almost turned into soup. The second time we spoke to the waiter, they took it back. The third time the dish was served, it was the same as before, only with extra rice cakes. By this time the taste of the dish had turned quite disgusting. It smells bad, and the waiter said he gave me water to make it less spicy. And they didnt say that the rice cakes had been served for the first time. But the first time we had no rice cake in it at all. Its the chefs problem, and we have to bear it? I dont understand why you cant make a new dish for the customer when youve made a mistake. The experience was terrible, the service was terrible, I will never come here again!

There is no kids menu and when we asked for a side of noodles or fried rice (available on the menu as an add-on to other meals) we were told they cant do that. Would have been willing to pay whatever for happy kids, but not allowed. Our bill was incorrect as they charged 2 glasses of wine as 2 Bottles of wine. I will never be returning. Unfortunately half of my Sunday was a write off because of this place.Had a stomach bug after eating here on Sunday. It had to be this place as it was where I had the only meal of the day - couldnt have anything afterwards anyway and only now able to write this up.I am Korean and I have been a fan of the original Jongajip (Eastwood) - Kangnam (Hornsby) - Myeong Dong (Chatswood/Strathfield) as each one of these restaurants were setup and run by the same owner when they first started out. These places tend to go down hill (havent been to Strathfield recently so I cant comment) once the owners change and today I got confirmation that the Chatswood restaurant changed hands.People, dont get duped by the number of side dishes. They might be tasty, but youre paying for them dearly and theyre not of quality. Since I had a a fully cooked meal, I do not believe I got the bug from the main, which leaves the side dishes... My wife was fine, but I also know she didnt touch a number of the side dishes. I cant pin point which one it was, but I can almost say for certain it was one of them. Were usually quite careful and I must admit this was probably the first time Ive been violently ill like this since a trip to Fantasea, Phuket back in 2007.

Used to love coming to this place pre covid-19 situation for their generous sides and tasty dishes. Been here three times now since it’s been take away only - first time was great (gave a takeaway plate of sides varieties for each main ordered, mains were hot and tasty), second time was not great (only one sides varieties plate for 4 mains ordered and fried dishes were all soggy and warm despite us only eating it within minutes of receiving). We thought they may have had a bad day so gave it another go tonight. We ordered direct from them and requested extra kimchi (as we ordered numerous mains to be shared between 4 people). A tiny small container of extra kimchi was given begrudgingly and the young waitress told me that they usually don’t do this. This caught me by surprise as if we eat in, they would happily refill the sides plates when we request it. However during these times where it’s takeaway only, it doesn’t matter how many mains you order they only give you one plate of sides even if you request extra sides as I did since we would be sharing between 4 sides loving people? For me this almost defeats the purpose of ordering from Myeong Dong as the main reason we used to frequent there over the other Korean restaurants is for their generous sides. We also ordered fried chicken today and I asked for the sauce to be put on the side as I didn’t want it to go soggy on the way home - they only filled up the container perhaps 1/3rd way so when we tried coating the chicken when we got home, only half the portion was coated before we ran out of sauce. There’s plenty of local restaurants to support and unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be returning until we can eat in again as their takeaway has been a bit too hit and miss for us.
