Great little French bistro hiding in a strip mall.We shared seared octopus, and I got the strip steak with fries 🤤. The food was so good that it made up for the lack luster service. Waiter seemed out of it, but everyone has off days. Again the food was so good it didnt really matter. Well be back again.

We were in Chapel Hill for a night, returning from our vacation in Hilton Head back to DC. Kitchen was the best dining experience weve had on our trip. Absolutely all dishes we shared were amazing: charcuterie platter, fried oysters, steak frites, mussels, and desserts. Service was fast and gracious. While they dont have kids menu, they were able to accommodate our daughter with simple pasta and parmesan, a dish no kid refuses. We definitely planning to be back when in the area.

Not much emphasis on interior decor with drop ceiling and orange walls but this gets muted with nice low lighting/music. Quasi strip mall setting. Food overall very good (see mussels) but a couple dishes could be improved (see steak). Service straightforward and attentive. Wine good. Beer hit or miss. Place has an awesome low key locals vibe. Nice price for their offering. I like that they don’t take res. Wouldn’t be surprised if some locals opting for this instead of lantern.

It starts when you enter and the ambiance is quaint and quiet with very soothing music. It builds as the fragrances of the spices and sauces come wafting from the kitchen. The wait staff dont disappoint with their attentiveness and knowledge of the menu. Then the food....DELICIOUS. The wine and beer selection is very good and there is something for everyone. The owners take the time to visit every table and check in. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will return as often as possible.

If reviewing just the cuisine, hands down, Kitchen is a delightfully delicious winner, warranting ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.Taking into consideration its tucked away in a very unassuming strip mall location, without a lot of ambiance, it manages to keep its patrons salivating for a taste of Kitchen’s culinary prowess. I will note a minor inconvenience, they do not take reservations, and are usually quite full early on. Not a biggie. Food wise, worth a little waitSadly, I will no longer frequent Kitchen. This decision is based upon the continual rude attitude of the same bearded male server. One time he was coughing in our faces without covering his mouth. Each time acting as if he’s doing us a favor by affording us a seat to sit in while hurriedly throwing down plates of food before us. Consistently without so much as common courtesy. The final straw came while trying to book a reservation for Valentines Day, (they made an exception and decided to take reservations this year). However, when I called to reserve, he advised they only had 9:30 available. I said that would be too late for our evening plans. His initial response, well either come in at 9:30 or stay home!He obviously doesnt seem to care if we continue to be steady patrons based on Kitchen’s huge foodie popularity. It would be even sadder if he was the owner, spoiled by this popularity. . Eventually, word will spread. There are a plethora of very good french restaurants in the area who value and respect their clientele. All with well trained professional and personable waitstaff for which we tip well.

Super impressed with this place! I have been to France and dined in many little cafes and these guys nailed it!!! The focus is on the flavors. Everything had a fresh and healthy flavor. The accompanying side dishes complimented the entree which is something most restaurants dont put much effort into (or truly understand). If I lived in Chapel Hill I would be a regular customer. Despite the many local options, I will be a happy returning customer next time Im in the area!!!

My dad has lived in the area for years and my only disappointment is not finding this gem sooner. From service, to presentation to the food itself, Kitchen hits all the right notes - beautifully and with a casual attitude that is the hallmark of a passionate attention to detail combined with a desire to make every dish special.Leif was an attentive but not obtrusive server and his recommendations left nothing to be desired.A delight for the palate and the senses.

This place... Wow. What can I say? Not only was the staff friendly, the food was fantastic. The Thai mussels had this broth that was spicy, subtly sweet, flavorful, rich and delicate all at the same time. The herbs and fresh mussels together were such an epic combo. The fries were also awesome. They werent oily at all. I would go back here any day of the week. I also had the pleasure to make a second visit here and had the fantastic flat iron steak. If you want great food at a decent price, this is the place.

Overall a nice French bistro but done inconsistent food preparation prevents its from getting 5 stars. Our first visit was terrific with a nice arugula salad with goat cheese and roasted beets which were tasteless on a subsequent visit. The duck confirm was rich and unctuous and delicious. However the shrimp pasta dish on the second visit had overcooked pasta and had congealed as it seems it was not served right away. The shrimp were otherwise very nice. They serve beer and wine but not liquor. A good place for a meal but surprised that it was inconsistent. The rating is an average of a 5 for the first visit and a 3 for the follow up visit.

I think I went into this place with too high expectations. The food was inconsistently good. Some was VERY average or just ok. Some was great.THE SERVICE: Really goTHE FOOD: The stewed calamari was salty and weird the entrees were mixed, mine was the duck and I loved it. My wife got trout potatoes and it was bland. The flourless chocolate cake was a 5 out of 10. The cream brulee was TOP NOTCH (I would only go back just to get the creme brulee). The food was priced a little high for the ambiance and quality. The desert was normal priced.THE AMBIANCE: They could do a lot more with it.I had wanted to try this local joint for a while and am glad I did, but I will probably never go back.

Dined at Kitchen this evening. Ive been there before and typically enjoyed my food and the dining experience. Tonight was not too good. Greeting by hostess (perhaps owner) was ok. Bartender/server was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about food and beverage.I ordered a dish that was one of the specials for the evening -- Basque-style NC clams with saffron-infused risotto. Well thought out dish but execution left something to be desired. The chef got totally carried away with the salt. It was just on the edge of too salty to eat. Normally I like salty food and highly seasoned food so I am not overly sensitive to heavy seasoning. In addition the risotto was not sufficiently cooked. There should not be a noticeable hard kernel left in the grain. It should be sufficiently cooked that it has a creaminess. In addition, the cannellini beans that formed a shallow bed for the risotto and clams also were under cooked.Lastly, it was so warm inside the restaurant that it was unpleasant to eat a hot dish. It was only about 83 degrees outside and it was nearly the same temperature inside.Ive had better food and dining experience at Kitchen before so I will probably go back, but it will probably at least wait until cold weather.

Do NOT eat here. It all seems great on the surface but beware. They openly say we cater to our regulars and only take reservations for parties of 6 or more unless you are a regular. No big deal we sit at the bar tonight and order nice 70 dollar bottle of Bordeaux and awesome appetizers. Now this place has maybe 10 tables/ 9 bar spots. We are at the part of the bar that sees into the kitchen. As Im talking with my wife I see the chef take a spoon and taste the polenta, then use the same spoon to plate the polenta and that plate comes straight to me!I said in a quite polite voice I saw your chef taste the polenta then plate this, no way Im eating it please take it away. The staff was speechless. They walked it back and told him. He rolled his eyes and started talking smack. The other kitchen guy said I saw you do it. He said yea but .... We were close but close enough to hear it all. Then he looked at me and spent 10 minutes to move the station where it can no longer be seen by the bar!Neither an owner or manager came up and said anything.Nobody said Thank You for your discretion. I could have been loud about it but I wasnt knowing that any chef, owner or manger worth their salt as a human would come and say something. Nothing. Any man who does something that insulting to another person by risking their health is not a man but a coward and jerk. The bartender said Ive been asked what you would like instead?Nothing, I said just my check. He and only he apologized again. It was awkward to say the least.Just wait till I write my yelp and Google review!

We went to Kitchen for dinner tonight for the first time, and it was AMAZING!! Being Saturday, there was about a half hour or so wait, which we happily spent in Flyleaf Books. They took our cell number and called to let us know our table was ready. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, and the service prompt and friendly. For starters, in addition to the lovely crusty bread and butter, I had the arugula and roasted beet salad and my husband had the cream of mushroom soup, and both were fantastic. Then I had the hangar steak and fries, while he had the pork chop special. We were very impressed with the quality of the food and the portions were quite generous. Id overheard a woman at the table next saying her steak was tough, but Id had my heart set on it and ordered it as planned. I was not disappointed. It was delicious! And not tough at all. I think some people just enjoy complaining. The fries were possibly the most perfect fries Ive ever had, and the first time fries have ever appeared elegant. My husband got not one but two pork chops, which was a pleasant surprise, with lovely mashed potatoes and a mustard sauce, and roasted asparagus. I usually dont order dessert but I couldnt resist the creme brulee, which was as delicious as the rest of the meal, while he got the pot de creme-- thick, rich, creamy dark chocolate paradise. I cannot rave enough! We are very picky when it comes to restaurants, as we have a few dietary limitations and prefer to give our business to family owned restaurants who try to use local ingredients. We will definitely be back. Ignore the less than 5 star reviews here and try this place. You will not be disappointed!
