Im giving 3star for the behaviour of the employees and for the ambience of the restaurant... The concept is very nice... The background music is delightful... A lovely tribute to legend Satyajit Ray... But the food quality is very much overrated..They are serving good quantity of food but the taste is not appreciable. I should mention that they are maintaining hygiene properly.

Me along with a friend of mine planned suddenly to drop in to this much hyped restaurant today. Well we both are foodie and visited many placed across the country. So we were excited to check this one out. As expected the theme was superb. Reminisced childhood days. The famous Gupi Bagha. We had to share a table with another couple as huge rush was there. We didnt mind neither the other couple. Small restaurant. But rich quality. Decor was fantastic. We were pleased to find such decor near our hometown. Menu was decent. But they had limited items when entered. Most of the servers were nice and spoke to professionally. Initially they were chasing us for the orders. So we decided to go ahead with one starter first. They suggested to with Aam Paana and Vetki Fish fry. We accepted and it did justice to our taste bud as per its price. Next we ordered one Gupi thali and one Bagha thali. As per my experience the prices for the thalis were decent. Quality and quantity of food were really good. My thali was named Bagha I guess. The Golda Chingri preparation was really dull. So as the Gondhoraj Chicken which was included in the other thali named Gupi. Rest all the items were perfectly fine. They served Bislaris. Servers were careful while serving the thalis and explained properly. We were served late. So one of the servers apologized. We understood that it was due to rush hour. The most interesting thing was the punch line which they will ask you to utter before serving the food to your table. It adds to the charm. All the servers were wearing mask and at this time this was appreciable. But we were really annoyed with the noise. Atleast 2 or 3 YouTube video makers were having lunch at that time and frankly they were annoying. They were making a lot of noise which was bummer. I hope they will realize this soon enough and atleast care for the other patrons. Also they dont have any waiting place outside the restaurant. We had to stand in open road for our time to come before entering the restaurant. This can be looked into.Tap water wasnt available. This was irritating.Tissue paper wasnt there at the table. It should be a serious concern.Had to ask for desert spoons which wasnt given along with the food. This is also unexpected.

Horrible experience!!!It was our first visit to Bhuter Raja Dilo Bar (BRDB) and we were shocked with the way they treat their customers.🔻After you reach BRDB even if you have a prior booking you have to Waite for at least couple of hours.🔻There was people standing🕴🏻 all across the street under the scorching heat☀️. There is no proper waiting lounge to waite hence we were advised by the security to come back after 1 and 1/2 hours🔻 The Security promised to call us, but no one called us.🔻After 1 and 1/2 hours when we came back we were told its noth their responsibility to call the customer and had to wait for another 45mints to get in to the restaurant.🔻When we went in, there was ample of seats which was empty but they insisted us to share the table with another family. Which was not at all expected.🔻It is not at all a nice and quiet place as you expect from any other restaurant, people were speaking all around which made the place like a fish market.🔻The Floors were all messed up and no one bothered to clean it up, even after telling the waiter multiple times all were busy serving food.🔻NO WATER, there was no water in the Washroom. Literature we had to fetch water from the bucket with a plastic mug.🔺The old good thing we found was its food (what ever they had), as I told before most of the items were unavailable. If you want to have nice food its good but its service was totally negative.

Food: [Avearage]Ordered mutton kasha the taste was pretty average but the portion size was good.Ambiance: [Good]They have lots of decorations on the wall which gives the place a good ambiance.Service and cleanliness: [Below average]The waiters were okay and responded well. But the cleanliness was way bad. The washbasin taps were not working and water was logged in the washroom area. The washroom was also poorly maintained.Management: [Worst]Had to wait for an hour to get two seats and yet had to share the table with two other customers. The security at the entrance had a sheet of paper where he was writing names of waiting customers but he was himself confused whome to call next. The hotel manager was not well behaved and talked in a harsh tone when asked to provide a table. Lots of customers were fighting with the hotel management for table and they were rude and ill mannered.Overall not recommend as it seems they can’t manage on rush days.

This is fantastic place for authentic Bengali cuisine in Chandannagar. Probably the only proper Bengali cuisine restaurant in the town.First of all the theme itself is so brilliant. The theme is based on Bhuter Raja(king of ghosts) from Gupu Gaayin and Bagha Baayin created by the Maestro Satyajit Ray. The interiors and the ambience in impressive.Secondly, the food is really good. Authentic West Bengali food. Unlike East Bengali food, the dishes here are a bit sweet. When they recently opened the restaurant, all the dishes were available but now most of the fish dishes are not available. Even though the thalis seem a bit expensive but one advice..... Go, for the cheapest thali wich is called the Haritaki Thali. It costs Rs.180 which includes unlimited rice, dal, fries, two types of vegetables and chutney, if you want a non veg dish then just order fish or meat along with the thali.Thirdly, the service is good if you are ordering food, the waiters are quite attentive while ordering food but the moment you ask for miscellaneous things like regular water, tissues, etc., they are very late and almost ignore you.Overall its quite a good place to eat Bengali food.

( Thali starts from Rs 450+ to 899).....Food quality still we feel need to be improved.....Example : sukto was spicy and chilly too which was not expected in a Bengali Thali , prawn curry and fish items use cheap fishes with almost same taste !!......Expected Gurer / jaggery sweets at least in the Winter....Food Quantity: Well....enough to increase ones tummy if one has penchant for food like Gupi and Bagha..!... items repeatedly provided.....( for Mahabhoj thali Only )...

Wanted to write a detailed review on this restaurant for last 2 weeks. So whenever I asked my wife or her folks to rate the best restaurants in Chandannagar-Chinsurah area, BRDB effortlessly managed a place in top 5. After visiting some of the other restaurants which did justice to the praises showered on them, we finally decided to pay a visit to BRDB and check out their famous Thalis. Being a Bong and being a foodie are almost synonymous. But people still stare for 5 long seconds at me and my wife when they come in terms to the fact that we are pure vegetarian and yet we are 500% Bengalis. So in a way, vegetarian Bengali is bit of a oxymoron. To our surprise though, our brother assured us of getting good niramish stuffs in BRDB. So with palpable excitement, we fixed our date with BRDB on a fine spring evening. Our brother ordered for the unlimited Thali. As he is not a fan of mutton, we requested the manager to switch the mutton dish with a chicken one. My Baba-in-love ordered for a Mutton based Thali. Maa-in-love, being an ardent fish fan, ordered for a Fish based Thali. We ordered for Basmati Pulao, Mutter Paneer and Dhokar Dalna. So far so good.First surprise awaited us when the steward told us that some of stuffs in Thalis are no more available. This humble announcement was made just after our order was placed. They offered to switch the Payesh with Misti Doi!!! Ask a Bengali about their version of chalk and cheese. I will not be surprised if they come up with example of Doi and Payesh. As we were still recovering from this shock, here came the second announcement... the chicken dish of the unlimited Thali was over. It was just 8:30 pm !!! And by this time, we were told that 3 items are already over. One of them cannot be replaced. After some persuasion, the manager told us that some new chicken dish will be prepared for our brother. As if these were not enough, the first bite of Dhokar Dalna gave me a rude shock. You can smell the uncooked Masala with a generous mix of turmeric in it. Both Baba and Maa confirmed that they are not liking taste of the mutton and the fish respectively. None of the items were hot. The Mishti Doi had a pungent smell in it. Most hilarious part was, our brother confirmed that both the Chicken Dakbunglow and Mutton Dakbunglow posses the same curry. No difference in taste at all !!! He just tasted the curry from Babas plate to come to this conclusion. The next serving of chicken which he was given on request was equally disastrous as he could barely manage to eat one full piece. And on top of all this, we realized that stewards are not giving us the refreshment unless we ask for the same. It was part of the unlimited Thali though !!!Phewww... I know its getting long. In summary,1. The restaurant doesnt give you what they write in their menu card2. Quality is under big question mark. Simple items are not properly cooked let alone the complicated ones. The items are not hot either.3. Quantity has scope of improvementWhat we liked during our 2 hours of stay in BRDB is the ambience of the restaurant and courteous behavior of one of the steward. If you really want to give it a go even after reading this review, try at lunch time. Perhaps you may have a better experience.

A great Bengali Cuisine restaurant with authentic bengali dishes. Truly Chandannagar was missing such a restaurant.Went there with my friends for spending a quality night. This place never disappointed us. Located near the kotghat stoppage. They are maintaining great hygiene. They are checking every customer using thermal guns. The tables are sanitized after each meal. The authorities are also taking precautionary measures. We ordered mutton thali with a couple of side dishes but I would recommend if you have enough appetite go for Mahabhoj thali (Rs. 799). I know the price may seem high but trust me its pretty economical once you consider the number of items. Great ambience with live music. One complaint though for which I was forced to give a 4 star rating instead of 5 star. It is lack of table space. I know the place is not that large and so once the items are placed on the table theres hardly any room left for moving any plates or realigning the dishes. So yeah. Big thumbs up to them.Go visit this place, you will not regret.

Serving bowl, plate even the bassin of wash room is of Bass..food will be served in the plate on banana leaf pieces.I basically liked the fish items..which goes best with plain basmati rice, where you can exactly taste every different flavours or each items. There are thali options too.(Must try item Kochu pata diye chingri)Go minimum 2 hours earlier for lunch , dinner time is mostly not so crowded..1 star is deducted for less options in Bengali sweets. And Little bit over oily item of some of preparation.. jolvora, roshomalai, kalakand there type of sweets should be added to menu.. which will increase the bangaliyana thing 👍

The Ghost King, and were asked to high five each other, doing which he presented us our meal. This act is in sync with Rays masterpiece where the two of them chanted a mantra, high fived each other and whoosh! Could have provided a touch free handwash dispenser there. Amd some tissue paper or dryer to dry your hands.Over all a good experience. Would visit again.

#reviewpost #5Feb2021Visited today with family. Ambience and place is very good to visit but food was very very spicy. Definitely not for kids and even people who loves spicy food would struggle a lot to consume this food. We took chicken thali today. Even instructions given were not addressed. Not worth to visit this place compared to the price charged.

Visited post pandemic year i.e. on Feb 2021. The unique interior which has made this Restaurant more interesting and attractive. The interior is based on Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne (গুপী গাইন বাঘা বাইন), a 1969 Indian fantasy adventure comedy film written and directed by Satyajit Ray and based on a story by his grandfather Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury. It is a fantasy-musical film, with the music and lyrics written by Ray himself. The Food is especially based on Bangla Cuisine, but they do keep normal & butter Naan to satisfy their customers. Lot of rush during the lunch hours. During night you may be lucky wait for less time, for your turn. the staff are quite polite and courteous. Overall, its very good, can be given a try. You can try for MAHA RAJA BHOG THALI.

Well I went there with my whole family from Kolkata by reading the reviews of the restaurant. We got there at 2 Pm and had to wait outside the restaurant for almost 1:30 hours as they said no 7 seater table is available. The restaurant was not spacious enough but the interior was good..Pros:They didnt compromise with quality.Mutton kasha and chiken dakbunglow was extremely good. They provided proper quantity not excessive or less.Staffs are extremely humble.Cons:There are no online booking hence one has to wait outside the restaurant. The space for washroom is very small and the wash basin is very low.Suggestions:Please put a picture of the creater of bhooter raja.

4.2 star actually....no option to opt for that, so 4 starFor two person it would cost around 1000 without any stretch on the table if dishes are taken separately, but if it is Thali then the price drops to 600-700.Food(quality and quantity) - 4.5Waiting time- 3.8Ambience- 4.2Behaviour- 4.4

A recently opened themed restaurant near Chandannagar Stand. Totally Bengali (one wont even get Biryani or Naan). The taste of the food is beyond awesome. The place is small but he decorations are remarkable! (Chairs made from bamboo, utensils used as wall decor, cool lighting, soft music from the movie Gupi Bagha, and all in all, PERFECT!) Reasonable price of food and parking space present. A must visit place!

Beautiful theme decoration on gupi gayen bagha bayen is one of the usp of this restaurant. They also have theme based menus like gupir thali, baghar thali etc which makes the experience fascinating. Also they serve food in that style, which is fun. The menu is pocket friendly and you get an unique experience like never before.
