Serene atmosphere that brings you divinity in the lap of nature. Not yet commercialised so pooja and prasad are not about money. If you have difficulty walking, dont go. steps and rugged walkways may give you trouble. Buses to Shoranur available frequently. Even the tea shop outside the temple premises has a quaint charm with their delicious idli and chutney.

I visited this place based on a suggestion from a very close friend. The temple is supposedly maintained by a Brahmin family for generations. Very serene and quite ambience. We reached little past 6 pm closure time, but they were courteous to allow darshan. Due to Covid restrictions the pooja offerings for visitors is taken up only during mornings and not evenings. Bur Darshan is allowed. You need to climb around 30 steps, and then walk a bit ramp on kutcha walkway to reach temple. So, think before taking elders..cars have to be just parked carefully along the roadside only.

There are some small shrines inside the groove.Devotees take the prasadam available from here (turmeric paste, vibhooti (holy ash) and rice) home. They consume some of it and sprinkle the rest over their land. This is done to protect the house and its surrounding from harmful snakes.Pathira Kunnathu Mana is in the Mundakkottukurissi village of Shoranur. It takes about 30 minutes by road to reach the Mana from Shornur. It is only a short distance from Cherpulassery.

This meant that the land would gradually become a mini jungle. Medicinal plants were commonly seen. The gigantic trees and thickly grown shrubs and vines that harboured a a variety of poisonous and harmless snakes used to give the groves a foreboding appearance.Inside the grove, a snake shrine would be built for the serpent god who, it was believed, would bring prosperity to the family. Apart from the occasional prayers and ritualistic feeding of milk to the snakes to please the serpent gods, human interventions in these ecosystems were practically nil. Thus, the religious beliefs indirectly promoted the conservation of natural resources.These groves played a significant part in preserving the biodiversity and ecological balance of the neighbouring areas. The Government and the Forest Department have come up with a lot of programmes to spread awareness of this particular role of the Sarpakavus.

Darshan time is 6 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 6 pm.Pooja is performed at the Mana. Devotees can pray at the Sarpa kavu, a few metres away from the mana.To reach temple from Pattambi proceed to Cherpulasseri and take a right turn at Krishnan padi and proceed about 4 KMs. From Shornur, proceed to Kulappulli and proceed to Mundamkottu kurussi. Local buses available but not frequently.

One of the ancient pilgrim center in Palakkad district. It is in Chalavara Gramapanchayat. 3.5 KM from Cherpulassery via Nellaya Krishnappady and 17 KM from Shoranur Railway junction. This is a special place for the worship of snakes. Thousands of pilgrims visit this place in a day especially in Sabarimala seasons. Calm and quiet place. We can feel devotional silence in the entire area. Facilities for the pilgrims have improved comparing to the early days. The nature & humans comes very close hear.
