Having been to the previous location frequently over the years with friends or family. I have come to really love Belon and the food.Their new location was quite hard to locate last night. Thankfully someone from the restaurant next door helped us locate it.This was the first time at their new location. The new elevated design is initially quite nice with the open kitchen by the entrance which is beautiful and the nice stairwell with wine on display to greeting you.Once seated the layout is somehow kind of strange with the curtains and drapery dividing the seating areas. Not my cup of tea personally, its odd and seems like its an after thought or a temporary fixture for a pop-up dining experience. The food as before was good, the service has been taken up a notch thats for sure. Service was very attentive and polite and the team are all dressed up very formally now with a somilier and captain to assist as well. The new experience at Belon gives me the impression that they seem to be trying to strive for more Michelin stars with this new elevated and intimate experience.I do however really miss that old location that had a neo rustic Parisian cafe style that was relaxed but had really sophisticated, affordable and delicious food. Dare I say, far more unique compared to the new location and when putting it in perspective with all the other fine dining choices in this city it does not stand out as much as it used to somehow.Overall we had a brilliant evening! Black Sheep never disappoints.
This slightly eccentric Asian version of bistro food hits all the right notes, headlined by a succulent version of the French roasted chicken (served with a memorable pea side) and led off by various fusion seafood appetizers. Thoughtful sommelier and the usual young, enthusiastic Black Sheep serving staff. Why not 2 stars next time?
Came here for our anniversary and they made the whole experience special and personalized for us. The restaurants layout and decor was quite interesting. The service was exceptional, really happy with Laurens attention to detail and GGs friendly service. We got the carte noire tasting menu (up to the chefs choice) and foodwise, the quality was excellent. The variety and taste of hors doeuvres were fantastic. The mains were no slouch either, with the turbot fish and pigeon pithivier which tasted amazing. We were so full and satisfied by the end we could barely finish the desserts. Throughout the menu, my partner and I got different items so we got to taste multiple items as well.
Very disappointed.Service was great and the selection of wine and spirits was good.Unfortunately the food does not live up to its expectation. The sourdough bread, brioche and pastry (with the pigeon) were damp, the crust of the sourdough was too tough to bite through. The salade gourmandes presentation was beautiful, flavour profile was good but too salty (perhaps it was the sauce). The turbot was decent. Given its price, of course I had high expectations, but what I was presented was below average. Would not return even if it was half the price.
Price aside which is more expensive than Caprice, the menu is a bit of a disaster.. there is no theme or consistency in it. Its so random that nothing seems to pair. The staff offered zero help here.. it felt like a bistro
Such a perfect meal!! Weve been wanting to eat at Belon for weeks before we were finally able to get a reservation, and it was absolutely worth the wait. The entire team was incredibly charming and knowledgable throughout the entire meal, especially our server JR, who took the time to answer all our questions about the menu and provided stellar recommendations.Every dish was phenomenal, and we will be forever dreaming of that kinmedai course... The presentation was all around stunning, and we took a million photos to try and capture the experience (the banana dessert is literally my phone background now).Looking forward to coming back again soon!
Came here to celebrate my wifes birthday. We were greeted by a warm welcome followed by a very professional introduction of the wine and food menus. All the dishes are filled with inspiration and ideas. We particularly enjoy the drunk pigeon and the foie gras. Believe chef and the team has spent a great effort on these two well-balanced yet sharp dishes. Its definitely one of the beat restaurant in town! Highly recommend for all food lovers.
Beautiful restaurant, serving some very fine food.Went for lunch and the set menu did not disappoint. Each course is an adventure for your palette, with a blend of traditional and modern French cooking and super fresh ingredients. The wine list is extensive, so you will find something to match the food coming out of the creative kitchen.
Thanks to Black Series, Restaurant Week of Black Sheep Restaurants, my friend and I were able to enjoy a really nice French dinner at Belon without breaking our bank. Our feast started with this little puff, which was a finger food with delicious savory custard inside. A bite of gourmet. We ordered a glass of rose each to go with the dinner. Both my friend and I were huge bread lovers, we got carried away by this delicious House-made Naturally Leavened Bread with Salted Brittany Butter and ignored the mains for a bit. The cube of butter was so therapeutic in terms of its shape, colour and taste. And the house-made bread was absolutely lovely! The bread itself was very fluffy with crunchy side. And the warm bread melted the butter which made the spread really easy. We love it dearly. This plate of “Saucisson de Bigorre” was nice, not too chewy nor salty. Great to go with the bread.Belon works its magic to make me enjoy food that I don’t usually eat - celery. This Sweet Shrimp with Chinese Celery was a bowl of creamy puree with a thin layer of celery jelly at the bottom. I have to say, the taste of celery in this dish was so good that I enjoyed eating every spoonful of it! Very refreshing and delightful! This Hamachi “Salad Nicoise” was really great! The hamachi was fresh and delicious. I really adore the fish. And underneath the fish was goodies like egg, small tuna fish (?), potato and veggies. Definitely not to miss as they were all nicely prepared. This Hokkai Scallop with Shio Kombu and Pomelo was even better. The Hokkai scallop was wrapped in a house-made ravioli. The scallop was really meaty and fresh. Love it! And the creamy puree on the side was absolutely fantastic! The pomelo added so much freshness to the sauce, which was good to eat on its own or mixed with the scallop. Absolutely amazing! We were presented with this Roasted Chicken before the kitchen chopped it up and served it like this. I like how they use the claw to simulate the head of the chicken. A good roast for real. Crispy skin wrapping really tender chicken meat.I am a big fan of potato, this little pot of “Petits Pois a la Francaise” was really satisfying! The lemongrass (?) on top made great seasoning. The creamy mash and peas were so tasty! I wish I have more vocab to describe how great this meal is!Dessert was Belon’s signature Mille Feuille. It was really crispy that we were able to separately it vertically with our spoons, and enjoyed the flaky pastry. Yum yum! You know the food is great when the whole table stop talking to focus on the eating. The complementary Madeleine was very delightful! It was served warm, and the crispy shell wrapping warm fluffy cake made a perfect end to this great feast!
One of the most mind-blowing and yet soul comforting dining experiences we’ve had in HK! Everything is done with precision and finesse. The bread they make is out of this world, and every dish that comes just keeps getting better, till you’re so full and feel like surrendering...Then they serve the BEST mille feuille that you cannot resist. You take a bite and you want more...We all went home so satisfied, stuffed and then stat to look forward to going back again... 🤤
Amazing service and food. Ive dined here many times and it always ceases to surprise. The foie gras is one of the best out there with a very unique pairing with kyoho grapes. The scallop ravioli with the pomelo sauce is also a very interesting dish that is complex and tasty. You are in for a surprise if you go.
Friendly service and excellent food.
Amazing wine and food especially the chicken and the fish. Great service as well.
I think Ive found one of my favorite French restaurants! My personal taste is more about the food, rather than aesthetics. And I much rather prefer the authentic way of preparing French dishes, rather than the more modern, innovative cooking methods. Further, Im not that into the flashy restaurants, and feel more comfortable in casual establishments where I can enjoy good food and wine. Maybe somewhat close to a bistro, but not as casual? And I really enjoy good quality ingredients with simple flavors. My friend Shelly recommended this restaurant to me.Their reservations are really strange though. I wanted to make a reservation at 7pm, but they told me I can come at 6:30pm or 6:45pm. I wonder why they wouldnt let me book for 7pm, but anyways, I decided to go at 6:45pm.I ordered an appetizer and the famous chicken as my main dish. Both were really delicious! There were no complex flavors in either of the dishes, and were simple in seasoning. The restaurant was really crowded, and they gave me some prociutto and cream cheese on the house. This was really good as well! And the fresh baked financier that came with my dessert was really impressive. The strawberry tart was really sweet, but it was just the natural sweetness from the ripe strawberries. The only thing is that their wine is quite expensive, so it would be great if we were able to bring our own bottle!I hope to come back again to have a relaxing meal.
Excellent French cuisine really focusing on the quality of food and services. Definitely a place to revisit.
There were five of us. After everyone else quickly realized that there were so many tempting choices on the short menu (I already knew this as I’ve been here before), we decided to create our own tasting menu by ordering a dish each from each category to be shared amongst ourselves. We had the Homemade naturally leavened bread with salted Channel Island butter. We then had the Lomo Iberico, Chickpea falafel with hummus, Smoked sardine with horseradish and green apple, and Merguez sausage sandwich with salsa verde. Our entrees were Hokkaido scallops with celtic and paprika, Foie Gras “Au Torchon” with clementines, Lobster salad with aged parmesan, Shima Aji “Salade Nicoise” and Hand cut pork with pistachio terrine with Dijon mustard.Thereafter, the house specialty, Whole roasted chicken with “Petits Pots a la Francaise” was brought out followed by “Dau Miu” tortelloni with preserved perigord truffle butter and parmesan shavings, Mayura Wagyu striploin with crispy polenta and bordelaise sauce, Whole Dover sole with artichokes and Vin Jaunt, and Braised lamb neck with courgettes and pine nuts. For sides, we had the highly recommended Pommes Anna and Green salad with soft herbs. For dessert, we started with the cheese plate (not to be missed, 48-month aged Comte) followed by Millefeuille, Palet D’Or, and Kyoho grapes.I can recommend every dish we tried. Fortunately, we were a big group so that we could order a feast. We will be back.
Had an amazing dinner, every dish we ordered was extremely delicious.Their homemade naturally leavened bread was heavenly. The outer layer was very crusty, while the inner dough was incredibly yeasty and soft. It was like eating a mochi.Oyster tartare: served with ponzu, grated radish and japanese bread crumbs. The acidity worked really well with the ‘oceanic’ taste of the fresh oysterTerrine de foie gras: served with Kyoho grapes which its perfumy and candy-like taste worked really well with the richness and creamy foie gras.Truffle croque madame: A very classic french dish with a luxury twist. The sandwich was beautifully toasted with the perfect thickness. On the inside are layers of black truffle and melted comte cheese. Truffle sauce was poured around the sandwich. As this dish is full of ingredients with really rich and distinct tastes, dipping the toast into the egg yolk in the middle helped balanced out the overall flavour.Basil scarpinocc with burrata and fruit tomato: a very classic combination yet satisfying with the balancing of each flavour of the ingredients.Pigeon Pithivier: extremely tender and soft. The doneness for the pigeon was spot on, medium rare without any bit of rough meat. The second layer of mixed spinach and mushroom added some extra fragrant to the meat, and the outer pastry layer provided a succulent texture to the bite.Vanilla mille feuille with fig jam and honey: the mille feuille was incredibly airy, and the fig evened out the sweetness of the vanilla. Simply amazing
Good food but very pricey
An indulgent french bistro experience, somewhat misses the mark on the food versus similarly (over)priced restaurants in Hong Kong. The famous pigeon pathivier was beautiful but underseasoned and bland. The foie gras terrine was similarly rich but lacked any flavour. The real stand out dishes were the pasta courses, scallop in pasta and a smaller agnolotti were very good.Wine list was excellent and the service was attentive but not pushy, with excellent waiting staff who were great for us on a large table. The meal was the most expensive Ive had in Hong Kong. Not my favourite black sheep restaurant in the end, but worth a trip for a high end meal.
Would highly recommend the Oyster Tartare, Hokkaido Scallop and Pigeon Pithivier.Oyster Tartare - the combination of the crispy flakes and the soft oyster with a tinge of lime creates a unique texture.Hokkaido Scallop - love how they mixed pamelo in the sauce.Pigeon Pithivier - the pigeon is cooked just right so its still tender and juicy yet not too rare. The crust and spinach matches perfectly with the meat. Was a bit disappointed though that the Terrine de Foie Gras was not available the day I visited.
Cozy dining environment, fine-dining service, great taste of food based more harmonious local or Asian ingredients, like three-yellow chicken and see weed in sauce instead of stubborn to European or french ones ... they are too humble to call them as a bistro
I had high hopes about Belon as I had read really good reviews about it, and was not disappointed! The first cheese choux pastry started off our meal the best way. Oyster tartare was citrusy and refreshing. The pork terrine was also really good. Star of the meal was the pigeon pie. The pigeon was tender and retained all its jus. We came for my sisters birthday and the servers did not forget to bring out a candle with the dessert we ordered, and also gave her a card signed by all staff. The only thing is that service could be more attentive. I was sitting alone for over 5 minutes before someone asked me if I wanted water or to take a look at the menu.
A beautiful evening! We got the chefs tasting menu and everything was divine. It was well paced and the waiters were able to talk us through each dish and answer our questions. They were attentive but not intrusive. This is a gorgeous restaurant, very romantic. They had Ginsburgs Howl playing in the bathrooms.
Excellent restaurant. Fantastic food, friendly staff and brilliant atmosphere. A must for anyone keen on fine dining.
Modern, chic, intimate, exquisite cuisine
Amazing - amazing - amazingAmazing for the decor, amazing for the food, amazing for the service.Professional staff, remembering your names and everything.Extraordinarily good food as well, good recommendations for food. Chef also looked after us, gave us complimentary desserts because food took too long (without us complaining about it). Overall, loved it.
Very nice oyster and salad nicoise.
Beautiful for the eyes, a few great dishes, a few overly salty dishes. Very friendly but mediocre service
The best Western duck ever, heads down for a great night and great service the food was just perfect this place is a hidden star and I hope it will shine like a diamond!
Great staff and amazing subtle flavours. Van really taste the effort and time that goes into each dish here
Visit here during CNY with my Mom, nice food and excellent staff.
Great service. Right portion and great food.
Great food, a bit on the expensive side
Great food
Hands down one of the best restaurant in Hong Kong and the quality is on par with some of the best in the world. atmosphere is casual and more you feel very comfortable to enjoy the amazing food they have to offer. they don’t simply impress you with premium food- texture, combination of palate and everything is cooked to perfect. We just found out new favourite restaurant and we can’t wait to return for our next meal. It has one Michelin star but the food quality is easily worth two stars!
Excellent food and exceptional well services and wine selection from small wineyard.
The chicken is to die for - knowledgeable staff, top service and even better food!
Amazing food and service. We went there to celebrate our engagement and were given treats throughout the night as well as complimentary champagne to help us celebrate. The cocktails were a little too strong for our taste but every else was to die for. Exquisite food with interesting textures. The bite size starters are perfect to try more on the menu. Highly recommended.
Outstanding brunch! Certainly best roast chicken i have EVER tasted🥇🏆
I like the chicken and the coffee. The food quality and service of this restaurant is great.
Amazing service and food. The roasted chicken is to die for and the mashed potatoes are heavenly.
Had New Year’s Eve dinner here, even though was set menu the staff and chef accommodated my partners dairy allergy very graciously. Can’t recommend highly enough, food and service was perfect. Thank you
Belon was a great spot for a date night. Nice decor and super friendly and attentive staff. The meal was delicious, but the Hokkaido scallop was simply fantastic. Must have that dish. I also recommend the chickpea dish (bite size) and the mackerel and asparagus dish. Artur was our waiter and he did a wonderful job from start to finish with wine and food suggestions. Would definitely come back.
A nice traditional French Bistro done with finesse. Their star dish is the roast chicken. Chef told me he uses the three yellow chicken from local farms. Tender breasts with just cooked through legs. Wonderful results, obviously from great skills. The pigeon pie looks great but somehow manages to taste too sweet.
Amazing staff and food! Love the atmosphere, feels like in Paris in the middle of Soho.
This one deserves all of their awards. We ordered based on their recommendation and it was all excellent. We had the oyster tartare, Saba and Scallops for starters. We shared the Pigeon for our main dish and the Chocolate tart for dessert. Make reservations, they had to turn away walk ins.
Impeccable service paired with on point execution of food. Lively Friday dining crowd. Overall it met all expectations.
They dont offer a traditional weekend brunch (at least when i went, middle of last year) but the sommelier was great and the service was excellent. Oysters were very nice, chicken bit thin.
Is it possible to give six stars? The food, the service and the wine was all incredible. The best meal I have had in Hong Kong.
The dishes were genius. Everything was so perfectly balanced and well textured. The service was casually attentive and so friendly. Give the man more stars!
Classy French bistro. Food is very good, though comes in small portions.Wine list and cheese options were also really good here.It has a really nice atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff.
One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Informal, vibrant but such great food. From the amuse bouche like a choux French rarebit (oh a pile of those and a glass of red and I would be happy) through a wide variety of snacks (oyster tartare - essence of oyster)and starters to the most delicious roast chicken, everything was a wow. Service was first class: attentive, friendly and very. knowledgeable. This chef is a star.
Its very good restaurant
Delicate food, friendly hospitality, easy environment
Great food, great service all in all a very pleasant dinner!
One of the nicest dinning experiences I have had in Hong Kong. The Dégustation offered a taste of all the chefs most recommended dishes. All of them delightful and interesting. Definitely worth a visit if you feel like a unique experience.
Elegant preparations in a lovely space. Recommended for a splurge.
Food was delicious , service was great as well
Impeccable friendly service. Amazing cocktails (negroni was the stand out) and beautiful ambient fitout. We found the food very nice but in my humble opinion not necessarily wow. Dishes were all nice but nothing truly memorable that I would rave about to friends (sweatbreads in particular I didnt feel deserved to be a main star dish).
I didnt think that the high point of my culinary journey through Hong Kong would be defined at a modern French bistro, but it did. Belon was on point on most all the elements that I regard in a fine dining restaurant -- professionalism and courtesy of the staff, execution of dishes (duh...), vibe/energy of the place, etc.Where do I begin -- I ordered the tasting menu as I wanted to try as many dishes as possible without going a la carte. The server was very flexible and recommended a couple things that I should try based on my preferences and dislikes. And, the meal was perfect -- a series of amuse bouches, sourdough bread so aritsanly prepared, the ikura toast, the foie gra torchon with peach gelee, sweetbread, and the mielle feuille. The execution, flavor, and the presentation were near perfect -- almost got me confused if a bistro should be this perfect...shouldnt it be rustic, rough around the edges? :)And the service -- the staff was obviously very well trained and educated. They did a fabulous job explaining each dish as they presented it to me, and did not forget to connect, and check in to see how everything was tasting. I know its small, but it counts (for me anyway). The bartender (I forget his name) was also a secret weapon of the staff. His demeanor was so humble, yet his knowledge on cocktails and local ingredients were deep and vast. At the end of the meal, I basically asked him to pull an absinthe cocktail out of his butt -- but he gladly obliged and out-delivered. Amazing.Ah, Hong Kong, you now have another dining scene that I will be jealous and drooling over. Belon will be yet another reason for me to come back to knock on Hong Kongs (culinary) door.
Small incredible portions. Great drinks.
Great dinning experience, loved the food and the service. Cuissons à la perfection!
Amazing, immaculate seasonal food with passionate and casual service. Wish I could come here every day..
Food is executed impeccably and the service was great. One of the few places in Hong Kong that are worth the expensive prices.
Simple and delicious.
Food was top quality but way overpriced, very confusing menu!
The food was amazing. One of best French cuisine dining experience here.
I dont understand why this restaurant is getting so many accolades. Its very basic French food. The only thing thats not basic is the price, for what it is...casual French setting, regular service, etc, youre paying prices closer to that of a Michelin restaurant in a Hotel. There are plenty of better French restaurants in Hong Kong. This one is simply overpriced, and adored by hipsters
Used to be hidden gem now popular gem
Food and service here were both excellent. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I came for the Sunday lunch and found it to be a good value for the amount and quality of the food.Food: 4.25 starsService: 4.5 StarsEnvironment: 4.25 starsOverall: 4.25 starsThe Sunday lunch is essentially a main, dessert, and a number of snack sized appetizers. Everything I had was delicious. Included in the set is their famous roast chicken and millefeuille. My favorite part of the meal was the mashed potatoes with bacon and peas. The mashed potatoes were creamy and buttery and I loved how the smokiness from the bacon. The peas added some freshness to the dish and surprisingly I didn’t find it that heavy. Up there with one of the best mashed potatoes I have had. I think its better than what I had at Le Attelier. The appetizers were also really great. The oyster was really fresh and satisfying. I normally don’t like Nicoise salad as it is often served with some type of canned tuna fish. However, the aji in this nicoise salad was fantastic and I really enjoyed the couple of bites I had here. The roast chicken uses a local bird from the new territories. My server explained that making the bird is a three day process. The bird is stuffed with a tarragon, mushroom & pea stuffing in the skin covering the breast meat. The chicken was very juicy and the jus that is paired with is fantastic.I hope to come back soon to try some of the other signature dishes like the stuffed pigeon.
Excellent french restaurant with good friendly service and delicious food
My favourite restaurant in Hong Kong
Impeccable food from start to finish and top-notch service - smiles all around from Richard and his team! Black Series menu highlighted some of their best dishes, from aged comté, to salade niçoise, to their signature roast chicken. Topped off with madeleines fresh out of the oven... Simply divine. Cant wait to try the rest of their menu!
Lovely place with decent food
Make sure you bring an extra stomach. When the bread basket leaves you cravin more, you know the rest of the food will be amazing.
Delicious Sunday brunch set menu with a reasonable price and serves saucisson cured meat, sourdough bread, gougere, salad nicoise with yellowtail, a perfectly roasted chicken sourced from Hong Kong, and topped off with a well made mille feuille and Madeleine.
I came for Sunday lunch. The service was good before it got busy, and it got to full capacity. Service got slow and a couple even left because they couldnt get the menu after being seated for 5mins. I later found out they actually only had a few menus circulating and there wasnt enough to share, the servers would also wait until they had a menu for each person at the table before handing them over (IMO couldve shared). The menu was also misleading stating a half chicken would be served if I ordered the lunch set, however it was served as half a chicken to be shared between 2 people?! This was presented to the table as a whole chicken and taken back into the kitchen, coming out as carved half chicken. What if I came alone? Portions are small and I also added foie gras terrine and extra sourdough bread. From the lunch menu the best dish was the mille-feuille. Also a note about the general hygiene of the restaurant, I was given a window seat since I was one of the earlier guests to arrive and the restaurant was relatively less packed, sitting down there were half a dozen flies zooming around the window. My wife attempted to swat a few so we could eat our lunch in peace, but we gave up and requested to be seated elsewhere. Later customers didnt have this luxury of moving and had the servers help shoo away the flies. For the steep pricetag I think you can find better elsewhere. I had expected more form a Michelin restaurant.
An excellent meal with great service and delicious food
Outstanding restaurant, very good atmostphere, the service was exceptionnal, I would recommend! Remi was our waiter and he gave us wonderful experience!
A true gem of a place helmed by chef Daniel Calvert (preciously from Per Se New York & Le Bristol in Paris)
Very nice, reengineered menu
Just really good French food!
