A very old monastery, inhabited mostly by young and friendly monks. A serene and welcoming place. Clean and well managed. Frequently visited by tourists and orthodox believers during summer. Definitely worth paying a visit.
A beautiful monastery with a garden. The view from it is spectacular too.
Worth a look if you feel like a short hike up the hill
Quite place
Its a monestry from around 13th Century, a must see for every Christian. Very beautiful place.
Beautiful monastery, peaceful. Must stay unknown..

The quiet little corner of Budva, far from all the noise of the city, a moment of respite in my stay. The monks are so kind and welcoming but dont speak a word of English or French or Italian,The place is magical, a must-see if you are passing through Budva, it is 25 minutes on foot from STARIGRAD,There is a souvenir shop, candles, oils, honey, incense, soap and icons, much cheaper than the city center.
Prelep Manastir sa snaznom duhovnoscu. Vrednim monastvim i Ocem Rafailom koji nadahnjuje sve one koji su u Hramu u koji su zeljni duhovne hrane.
Be sure to go.Very nice. The church can be stuck for an hour, although it is 30 square meters.Monks tizi, no one asks any questions. The place around them is beautiful.
Wonderful Monastery with wonderful monks who receive guests from the heart with a welcome that is remembered.
Уютный монастырь, небольшой, территория монастыря как в фильмах. Но путь к монастырю не совсем аккуратный.
A wonderful monastery a few hundred meters from Budva. Beautiful terrace and garden.
A must visit place. It is very close to the center of Budva. There are serious people working there, its not a derelict place. You will see people performing their worship. Pay attention to your attire. They especially recommend women to cover themselves. You have to respect.
The Assumption Monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in the 13th century and is located in the city of Budva in the upper part of the city, about a 30-40 minute walk from the Slavic Beach. We have been relaxing in Budva for 2 years already and every year we try to visit this monastery, as we are drawn there. We always leave a feasible donation and notes on the health and repose of relatives. This year we were relaxing with friends and one evening decided to show them the monastery. This is a very blessed holy place. There are not many monks in the monastery, but among them there are monks who understand and speak Russian. The territory is well-groomed, flowers and lots of greenery, and in one part of the monastery’s territory there are monastery gardens, orchards and vineyards. As soon as you enter the territory of the monastery, there comes such a calm and gracious state that you forget about time. While we were in the monastery, there was no service. We calmly went into the temple and carefully examined the frescoes. The temple has beautiful old frescoes, of such beauty that when you examine them you are in a state of grace. I want to note that if you want to stay in silence, beauty and grace, this is a place that you should definitely visit. Better to see once than hear a hundred times.
Very nice and nice. The only bad thing is that their cats are hungry. The mother cat with the kittens is thin and hungry, sad that in such a place they do not pay attention to the animals around them.
The Podmaine Monastery (Podostrog Monastery, Maine Monastery) is located in Montenegro, near Budva, on a gentle hill above the Budva field, about 2 km north of the Old Town. Another name for the monastery is Podostrog. It houses a smaller temple of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the 15th century, the endowment of Crnojevic and the church of St. Fridays of 1747, the endowment of Metropolitan Sava Petrovic. The interior of this church is decorated with frescoes painted in 1747 by a painter from Risan, Rafail Dimitrijevic. The interior of the church is adorned with a valuable iconostasis chained with silver. Thomas Brady intended to turn the monastery into a barracks. The monastery has been abandoned since 1837. It was first held by the Austrians as a military stronghold, then bought by pop Filip Tanovic, and for a long time (until 1953) it was privately owned by the Tanovic family. In 1953 it was nationalized. The temple and konak that the state restored to the Church have been renovated since 1995. New piers and other facilities have been built, so today the monastery is a frequent center of church and cultural events. In the past, the monastery was the meeting place of the Maine tribe. At one time he was the residence of the Metropolitan of Cetinje. Bishop Peter II Petrović Njegoš often spent time in this monastery. Throughout history, the monastery has often suffered from fires. Jerome Monk Benedict (Jovanovic) as successor to the monastery was succeeded by the former monastery congregation Jerome Monk Rafailo (Boljevic), on January 10, 2010, made in the rank of abbot.
They used the God-given monastery of Podmajna in Budva to strengthen their souls!
Indescribable beauty of the monastery itself. Love, peace, serenity that is felt in the monastery itself is something invaluable. Our wonderful father Raphael, the brothers of the monasteryMay God keep them all. Be sure to visit to feel that grace
An atmospheric and quiet place, away from the center, but you can easily reach it on foot. Apart from the monastery, there is also a nice view of the city.
A place away from the center and you have to do a nice route, but its nice, nice and quiet 👌
Тихое место на окраине Будвы. Церковочка. Монахи.
Very spiritually rich place. I strongly recommend visiting the evening service. There is no electric light in the temple, only candles and stained glass windows. All this is very exciting. The monastic estate is very small, just in the monastery, I think, not more than a dozen novices. The energy of this place is impressive.
Very beautiful calm places where serenity is present
A wonderful monastery with a small church. Around the olive park, birds sing year-round - a very calm atmosphere around and inside. Sometimes you can hear the male choir - it is impossible to leave, it sounds so great ...At the monastery there is a small shop with icons, books, candles. On the territory you can also sit or drink water. You can go to the monastery by two roads, but both of them go uphill, along the way there are several signs, and each of the locals will tell you the way.
Beautiful monastery
Quiet, cool place, beautiful temple
A functioning monastery. You can go to the territory of the monastery and the church.
Great place!Lots of monasticism.Generosity, helpfulness, hospitality.
A PLACE OF PEACE AND PRAYER
Diamond of Bright Montenegro
Very kind people in this monastery! The priest is sensitive and understanding. May God grant them all happiness and prosperity!God bless all Orthodox Christians!
The Orthodox monastery lives its measured life. The monks are very welcoming. They are allowed to enter the territory, see and take a picture from the observation deck.
Good overview of the city of Budva. But most of all struck peace and tranquility of this place. Beautiful temple, bringing peace to the soul and grace. Really wonderful place.
The place is far from tourists, which means that people mostly come to pray, not to stare. But there is something to look at, but it is always secondary ... after all, they are met by clothes, but here in the majority everyone has already found Him.
Kleines Kloster in Budva.
You experience a quiet peace in this place. I would like to sit and take a break from the bustle of the world.
Podmaine Monastery or as it is often called Podostrog, is located 2 kilometers from the center of Budva, on a hill that rises above the Budva field. The monastery complex consists of two churches: a smaller and an older church, dedicated to the Presentation of the Most Holy Mother of God, and was built in the 15th century, while a larger and younger church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God and dates from the 18th century. The name that is often used, Podostrog, was given to the monastery on the hill Ostrog below when it was built. The monastery suffered from fires and earthquakes on several occasions.Data on who built this monastery and when are not known for now, but according to some assumptions, it is said that the monastery was built during the reign of Nemanjić. Above the entrance door, there is an inscription that testifies to the fact that the monastery was built on the ruins of an older temple in 1630 during the time of Bishop Ruvim. The Podmaine Monastery was once the residence of the Metropolitan of Cetinje. In the 18th century, the Venetian Republic occupied most of the Montenegrin coast, however, the monastery itself remained under the administration of Montenegrin bishops. The church dedicated to the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God was built in the middle of the 18th century, but it is not known who built it, although it is believed that it was built by Bishops Vasilije and Sava Petrović, who often stayed here. Petar II Petrović Njegoš sold the monastery to the Austro-Hungarians, who abandoned it and used it as a military fortification. During the Boka Uprising, which took place in 1869, the monastery was destroyed. Later, during World War I. Priest Filip Tanović bought the monastery, and then, with the permission of the Austrian authorities, donated it to the Maine tribe. The monastery remained in some way in private ownership until the end of World War II. In 1953, the state took it away from the Tanović family, and it was not until 1995 that it was returned to the possession of the church (in the same year, the monastery was renovated and new buildings were built in the monastery complex). In 1979, he died due to an earthquake, which then hit the Montenegrin coast. Both churches, which are located in the monastery complex, are simple in structure, and their domes are not round, but pointed, and there is a cross on top of them. The courtyard of the monastery complex is largely paved, but it is decorated with several palm trees. It was only in 2002 that the fresco was completed with some details from recent history, and it was done by the painter Vladimir Kidišević Bato. It should be added the fact that even today there are icons and frescoes in the monastery that were painted by Rafail Dimitrijević in 1747.In the 18th and 19th centuries, the monastery enjoyed a great reputation, so it was visited by Danilo I Petrović (who died in the monastery complex and whose grave was located here for a while), Petar II Petrović Njegoš (he wrote a part of Gorski Vijenac in it and Slobodijada), and Dositej Obradović ...
Well-groomed and beautiful!
Predivam Manastir🙏
Very atmospheric place. A stronghold of peace and quiet in the immediate vicinity of Budva.
❤️
A beautiful monastery.
Church tranquility at high altitude. Not the most tidy area, but a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Thank him Father Rafael for his hospitality
Interesting place
Beautiful
Spiritual oasis
I have been coming to the monastery for over 30 years.
A beautiful complex and a very inspiring place
Its cool.
I love this monastery, it is so good there! Recommend for walking!
A small monastery under the mountain. Beautiful place. Not very far from the center. Its easy to go.
Quiet and cozy place
I liked the monastery very much. You can buy charm bracelets made by monks by hand. The territory is beautiful. Its nice to be inside.
Beautiful spiritual peace and tranquility!
The monastery dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary has been renamed several names. Someone calls him Podmain, some Podostrog. According to tradition, the monastery dates from the time of the ruler of Crnojevic. With the establishment of the Petrovica NjegošA dynasty, it was the residence of Montenegrin metropolitans. Peter II Petrovic Njegos was happy to stay here in winter. There he wrote the Freedom Day and parts of the Mountain Wreath. In the 1869 Bokelj uprising the monastery was badly damaged. Then both churches were set on fire. He has practically never fully recovered since 2000, when his life was restored.
Turn right at this sign
Probably the only quiet and peaceful place in Budva. You can come sit on the bench and listen to silence.
