Place has History more than 500 years but due to lack of govt. Support couldnt more dig into the history. There still have more evidence under the soil but govt. Failed here to elaborate all those. Local Muslims claming there had maszid under this Buddha Monument, which is totally boguz! You can see there a cement board of Muslim masjid which recently build to create flame between 2 communities. Its a Buddhist place so must care taker should belong to Buddhist only but there is Muslim care taker, must say brainless Govt.
Recently after denudation of a natural forest area, ruins of a brick built building emerged in the north-western part of sonamura sub- division on the edge of the border with Bangladesh. The local people initially attributed the remains to an ancient temple of Manasa the goddess of snake. Attention was drawn to the Archaeological survey of India and they took over the site. There an idol of Lord Buddha was discovered and it was confirmed that it had been a Buddha temple.
Nice spot for photography..
It is one of the best places to visit. It tells us about the Buddhist ancient Temple. It opens at 10 am and closes at 4 pm. There is no wheelchair for the sick and disable. It has no parking space. Many devout Buddhists still come here to pray. Many tourist come here to enjoy the ancient structure. There is a Museum beside it. There is a mosque beside it. There is enough security for everyone.
Good place to visit but no parking available for cars.Best visiting time is either early morning or at evening, or else you cant enjoy due to heat which is absorbed by the surface during afternoon..
Well maintained site. Nice !
Good place for tourist interest.
Good Archeological site. Recommended to go in Afternoon.
One of the must visit places in Tripura

Beautiful place
Nice, historical place
It is really a nice place along with Historical networks in the era of Buddhism in Asia.It is a part of History when Buddhism spread in India . It lies in the border of India-Bangladesh and even you can hear the sound of train of Bangladesh easily. My request for a better look after for this Historical monuments.
Awesome
The place was well maintained but they might add some more artificial things to attract more people. Connecting road should be more well maintained.
Such a beautiful place to visit with your family & friends.

Nice excavation but no information about genesis of these stupas
Boxanagar is a village located 44km from Agartala, Tripura. Originally a plan to build a house over the place by some local, the discovery of a Buddhist Stupa gave a new importance to it and became of site of excavation which went from 2001-2004 . The massive red brick structure holds a great archaelogical importance to the state and can be dated back to 6th century when Buddhism might have sprang to life in the area. And so the plans were made for our little expedition, honestly with low expectations (but greeted with more than we hoped) and on 24th June, 2016, me and my friend, Kuntal set off at 9.30am. We took the local bus, actually running behind it and catching it just in time as we were late. Luckily enough we still got seats. And so after an hour and half of vehicular journey we finally reached the Boxanagar bazar. We took an autorickshaw from there (which was a loss for low budget travelers like us but more on it later). The driver did not recognize the place by buddhist stupa but rather by Rajbari. The site doesn’t have signboards with proper descriptions installed for tourists who are also interested in the history and not in just the scenic beauty, having only a signboard stating that the place is of archaelogical importance and no more than that. This lead to the local rumours that this place belongs to a businessman years ago namely Chaand-Saudagar. Hope the govt. looks after it.HistoryThe emergence of massive Buddhist stupa, chaityagriha, a monastery and other associated burnt brick structures at Boxanagar have reflected an ancient art, architecture & religious aspects of ancient Tripura hitherto unknown. The brick built stupa exposed through archaeological excavation during the years 2001-02 to 2003-04 is square in plan having a dimension of 15.40x15.40m. The basement of the stupa is arranged in eight mouldings in diminishing order over which the tapering medhi is set with mud mortar and burnt bricks of different sizes. The ruin of the chaityagriha has been exposed on the eastern side of the stupa which is rectangular on plan and is aligned in east-west direction. The superstructure of the chaityagriha is completely damaged except the side walls which is survived upto 1.60m.The brick-built monastery is having a long corridor between rows of five cells on each side. The excavation of another mound lying in front of these structures in the year 2009-10 has revealed a fully burnt-brick structure with triratha projections having a square sacred chamber which appears to contain the extant remains of three spokes. These spokes are found radiating out from a semi-circular structure located in the eastern side of the sacred chamber. In front of this structure there is a rectangular hall enclosed by a wall all around. A brick rammed floor is provided inside this hall probably for facilitating the congregation of devotees. A wide pradakshinapatha is also provided around these structures.Notable antiquities found from the excavation of Boxanagar include three bronze images of Buddha, moulded bricks, miniature votive stupas, sealings, silver coins etc. The available archaeological evidences suggest that the Buddhist establishment at Boxanagar might have sprang up during c.8th century A.D. or later and continued till 12th century A.D. and during this period this Buddhist center might have played a significant role in spreading the Buddhist religion. It is also noteworthy to mention here that several Buddhist establishments had sprang up contemporary to Boxanagar in this region and in the adjoining areas like Shyam Sundar Tilla in South Tripura District, ‘Somapura’ of Paharpur in Rajashahi District and Mainamati in Comilla District of Bangladesh.

Place is amazing. Natural beauty, away from city hustle. Perfect for pre wedding photo-shoot etc.Negative Points:But sad part is that they dont allow DSLR camera etc. only you have to use mobile camera. I dont understand why... If the place got popular we can generate more revenue.... people from different places will come ..... our benefit only .....The road conditions, connecting national highway to Buddha Stupa are extremely bad.So consider those points before planning for a Trip....
The Buddhist place here is called Boxnagar, Sepha Hia District. (Sepahiajala), Tripura State bordering Bangladesh, just 100 meters away, 36 kilometers from Agatala, 2349 kilometers from Delhi, built from 500 to 1600. So the year was abandoned. Has been excavated in 1965 (AD 1965) excavated in 1998 (1998) by the Department of Archeology India. Before coming to dig Villagers have come to build a house over this historic site. When the government later informed the Department of Archeology to excavate. When known as a large archaeological site Therefore expropriated and declared it a historic area The current area is about 5 rai
Firstly, this place is known as Rajbari and Mathabhari. One of the many places around this place is heard, I say this here, people say that there was Rajbari in the past several years and that Rajbari was buried under the ground, one day after working in a quilt in his house, he saw that it was brick under the ground After that he started digging more slowly, after that he saw the whole house as a whole. From that, people believed that there were Rajbari long ago and the king lived in this area. Now this place is now known as the Ambience.
