I thought this place had great food and an interesting atmosphere! Okay, the place is not fancy by any means, but the almost shanty-like appearance gives it that hole-in-the-wall feel that comes with so many of the best local restaurants in the U.S.! The table salsa was surprisingly flavorful and spicy. The meals were nicely presented and tasty. The staff was very friendly, and the quality of service was great! Its now on my list of Mexican-food favorites in the Boulder region!
Let me start by saying this places food was really good we both enjoyed it and honestly would come again.The pros:Staff was very friendly and helpfulFood was very good flavors were good if just a little over spiced on chicken and beef on the fajitasPlenty of parking and a very unique buildingMargaritas are awesome A+ in this departmentThe Cons:Inside the building the fly problem was pretty bad. Had to move outside because of this.There is no AC in main portion of building so it was pretty hot (not an issue for, us but should be mentioned)The window seal by where we originally sat was very dirty it had dead bugs and caked on dust. Which after looking around could be said about a lot of areas in the facility.Again we loved the food and if were ever back in area can look past the cons listed above, but thought it would be best to give people a heads up what there in for if they go to this restaurant.
Cute place, good food, good service. You wouldnt think it would be quiet right on Broadway, but it was. Sat on patio, watched the full moon rise. Lovely evening.
My tamale was served with small ribbon sized pieces of the outer husk covered in sauce. Couldn’t eat it. It looked like they just sliced up the tamale whole without removing the husk and then poured extremely salty sauce over it, making it so those husk pieces had to be fished out from the sauce. The guacamole was mostly lettuce underneath and had little to no flavor at all.the place just doesn’t seem clean, bathroom was gross. Service was not good either, no refills for water. Much better elsewhere
If ever there was a place called a local hangout, then this is it. Situated on the outer edge of North Boulder is this Authentic Mexican Restaurant. The menu has a wide variety of choices. If youre not careful youll fill up on the chips and salsa, full of flavor, that has some heat on it. The food is has just enough spices for a great taste. I was lucky enough to be treated to dinner here and it was the best tasting Mexican food Ive had in a long time.
Neat little place for some good Mexican Food. Servers were friendly, food was good, and good portions. Doesnt look like much, but I think that sometimes can make it more interesting. We will be going back with a large group.
When I pulled up to the front, I wasnt expecting much, but the staff was super friendly and the food was amazing. The prices were pretty good as well. Will definitely stop there again.

Wapos is an excellent mexican restaurant in Boulder. They have at least five different vegetarian dishes (quesadillas, burrito, fajitas, enchiladas, tacos). We have the veggie quesadillas (made with spinach and mushrooms) for $14.75 and the vegetarian burrito (made with different roasted veggies and cheese) for $13.5. Both were really good. They have a patio with heaters.
Fun. Authentic. Good food. Good place for family meals.
Delicious food, maybe even the best dish I’ve had at a Mexican restaurant in the area. I got the soft rellano with chicken. Highly recommended.
I used to frequent this restaurant several years ago and was looking forward to returning. Not sure what has happened to the place, “hole in the wall” decor was the same, the food and margaritas were not. First time I have ever not finished a margarita, too sour with lime juice and no hint of tequila. The food was even worse. This place is definitely off my list.
Gio was great today. He took care of me and my order. Drinks where the best and the food was even better props to the chef. If you haven’t tried Wapos you’re missing out.
Best Mexican food! Have never had salsa as good as Wapos Even living in Louisiana near Texas. Nothing ever touched it. So grateful for such an amazing place!

Pitchers of margaritas are $31. I just was not aware of this until I had already ordered 2 pitchers. Very expensive for very mediocre margs. Service kinda sucked too. Decent food. Nothing special. Probably won’t be eating here again.
My favorite Mexican place in Boulder. Great food, large portions, good prices. Very friendly service. Especially, Juan, the owner. The ambiance is basic (definitely not upscale Pearl St!) and thats part of what I like about it.

Amazing. The service is stellar, the variety on the menu is vast and they know how to mix a drink! Its become a Sunday tradition amongst my friends to stop in. The Tequila Chicken is a MUST try, best item on the menu.Update, recently I was here for lunch on a snowy day and opted for the Caldillo Soup with a flour tortilla and it was the perfect comfort food on a chilly day! First time but definitely not the last time. Rich, chunky, hot salsa and meaty dishes. We found our new go to Mexican place. Fast and super friendly. Found myself randomly saying, man...that was delicious on the way home.
Food is always amazing. I always order Chilaquiles. We also had two of the famous coin margaritas, ceviche and chicken tacos that tasted heavenly. We ate outside and it was a bit cold, however there was a warmer that helped a bit.
I wish I had as good of an experience as everyone else seems to have had. We had such a terrible time we actually had to just get up and leave.I would chalk this up to awful service, but there were a few other issues too. After we were sat, it took 10 minutes for someone to come over, get us water and drop off some chips. We said that we needed one more minute to look at the menu. Another 25 minutes went by before anyone came back, and we were finally able to order and get a water refill. We asked for more chips twice, but those never came. We were finally able to order 40 minutes after being there, waited a half hour for our food, and when nothing came and we couldnt find anyone to talk to, we ended up leaving.On top of that, we sat outside (a covered patio), which wouldve been nice, except for the giant spiderwebs and actual spider directly next to our table. The fans overhead were also covered in a thick layer of dust.I really wanted to like this place based on the great reviews, but I dont think well ever be back.
A most delicious dinner was served to all in my party at this small hole in the wall dive. Fun atmosphere, great staff, Wonderful food with generous helpings!!! Margaritas tasty too!!! Thanks to the lady at the winery for sending us there!!

This place was a welcome find for out of town travelers in Boulder for the first time. The service was fast and friendly with a strong local vibe. The enchiladas and tamales were both tasty and well presented.

First time coming here, loved everything. Got the chicken fajitas and they were very good. The salsa and guac were also very good. I was surprised by the refried beans as they had a lot of flavor to them. Would definitely recommend!

Used to really like this place several years back, but the food and service have become very inconsistent. The prices have gone up and up, and we were shocked to see that pepsi product fountain drinks were $4 each on the bill. Made for a very expensive, unremarkable, and painfully slow dining experience. Probably wont be returning sadly.

Wapos is a wonderful little Mexican restaurant on the very north side of Boulder. I have enjoyed every item I have ordered. I have done takeout, and have always been pleased with their timing. My three top picks; the chile rellenos, the burritos, and the tequila chicken dish.

The prices are much higher than I expected especially considering how it looks on the outside, but the tacos al pastor are pretty bomb.
I am not so sure why this restaurant has so many good reviews. The food is one of the worse Mexican food I have ever had. We ordered enchiladas. Be aware that if you order pork, you will be charged additional money for it. I am not sure why this is the case. The menu does not make this fact clear. The prices are absolutely outrageous for a restaurant whose bathrooms have holes all over the walls. The female bathroom is horrible. We have been living in Boulder for over 14 years. There are so many other places in Boulder to have good food this place shouldnt even rank.

They hit a sweet spot between these hipster taco shops and the more traditional Mexican attire were used to in America. Lots of options, made with lots of flavor and lots of love. I would definitely rate this my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area.

Chicken Mole was absolutely fantastic and my wife is extremely picky about her Mole. I had the Combo Plate with a pork tamale, steak enchilada and steak burrito. No beans and rice filler....just meat. Great flavor all around. The salsa had a wonderful taste and was thick, not runny like the majority of restaurants. Will definitely drive the 45 miles to come back.

A hidden gem of Boulder, and definitely the citys best Mexican food. Staff are always extremely friendly and welcoming. The tacos - particularly the Carnitas - are exceptional. Well worth the visit to the fringes of Boulder.
We go to Wapos at least once a month. Were from CA, where excellent Mexican food is in abundance, and had a tough time finding anything decent when we first moved to Boulder. Wapos was our savior. Food is solid and patio and salsa are great! Theres a small kids play area off of the patio, which enables us to stay a little longer..and eat more salsa!
