Great ambiance, good food.Indoor seating is two stories. First floor has a bar, with several booths and tables throughout. Second floor is larger, with more booths and tables. The interior design and lighting makes for a lively and cool ambiance. Outdoor seating has also been popular recently given the warmer weather.Food was good for the most part - eggs Benedict was the best. The croque monsieur was okay. Our server was kind and considerate, splitting our order of French onion soup into two smaller mugs without us asking. They also serve espresso drinks with La Colombe beans. The latte was good.

Its kind of tough to find somewhere for a good brunch on a Saturday for 5 people and 2 kids with Covid going on. My friends and I were hankering for a feast and being a the foodie of the group, I was give the task of finding somewhere. Well I was lucky to stumble across this spot and get a reservation that same morning. Its not the easiest to find. If you need direction its near Eataly. I walked around for almost 20 min trying to find the entrance. There is street parking and garages. Try find street parking because the garage is INSANELY expensive and I paid $44 for parking and the restaurant does not validate. Ok on to the good stuff the food. I had the eggs Benedict and it was perfection. I hate eggs that are too runny and requested over medium and they were cooked just right. The breakfast potatoes are by far my fave. I havent had a plate of food that I finished this fast in a while. We ordered the mimosa bottle which served us each two glasses and was definitely worth it. My friends also really loved everything they ordered. Overall a solid Boston brunch destination.

Appetizers were fine but certainly not worth the price tag. Main dishes came out after over an hour and were very clearly reheated/microwaved. Both dishes were undercooked and didn’t taste at all fresh. On the bright side, our waiter was very understanding and friendly, as was the rest of the staff.

Just walked out of Rochambeau after expecting to have a nice dinner. We were promptly seated at a lovely table upstairs. The waiter came by and brought us water after a few minutes. He asked us for a drink order but we hadn’t looked at the menu yet. We sat for 20 minutes without the waiter coming by again. We think he may have been the only waiter for the entire upstairs. He was busy setting a large table in the back. Why is a waiter with a full dining room tasked with setting a table. We then saw him finish and we finally thought he was coming over to us. He didn’t. He went to another table to see if the guy wanted another beer. He then brought another table new silverware and then he went back to setting the large table. By now we just got up and left. We stopped by the check in desk and the two very inexperienced hosts looked at me with a clueless reply. Super disappointed.

Good place to get brunch! My wife and I were in a jam after shopping and were able to grab a table for brunch. Speedy service (and kudos to our waitress for warning us that the kitchen was closing to rush our items in beforehand) and excellent decour. The open crepe was incredible in particular. The only negatives were that the price was a little much for the items we got, and the lighting made it more difficult to see things, especially for 3 pm. Overall, liked this place very much and would visit again.

Unpleasant experience. Place was booked solid at 8:45 and the girl at the front desk was very rude about it. Decided to get a couple deserts to take back to the hotel. 40 mins after they put me in some side hallway (wasn’t allowed to get a drink at the bar while I was waiting) I went up to ask about the status. Low and behold, they had been there for a while. No accountability other than a younger boy who tried to go above and beyond. Cheers to him, he should find a job elseware.

Today was my first time visiting this establishment after much anticipation (pandemic stifled my drive to try new restaurants, and they’re too far from my apartment to support via online ordering). I was greeted by the kindest staff- seriously, 10/10 staff. Attentive, kind, wonderful, sharply dressed. The bartender Jermey was a highlight. If I only had to rate the staff that welcomed me in + the bartender I’d give 5 stars. But the food seriously let me down. I used to work in the food industry, and understand right now is a tough time to be a line cook/chef- lots of pressure, long hours, and unforgiving guests. So i’ll start by saying the bread was actually phenomenal- it came out very hot and melted the salted European butter wonderfully, and the pickles were a nice touch. My gripe is with the burger- the Rochamburger. Being cheekily named after the place, I expected a pretty solid burger- with the usual accompanying toppings- lettuce, tomato, onion, etc. Not everyone loves them but even at nice steakhouses they usually leave it on the side as an option to add on to the burger. I requested no cheese on my burger, and was very surprised when what arrived was just a burger patty with caramelized onions. I did not realize the menu listing was so literal- they really did not include any toppings on this burger, just onions & melted guyere cheese which probably typically hides the sadness of the meal. No one saw that ticket and thought- hmmm, sending out a super dry burger seems like a bad idea, maybe we should include some toppings to breakup the heaviness of meat + big bun + caramelized onions? Not an aioli on the bun, not a leaf of lettuce, not a slice of tomato? Perhaps it’s a French thing, in which case I apologize for not understanding. I tried to power through but the two bites I took were dry and sad. The burger had potential, but ultimately was very sad, plain, and unexpectedly unremarkable for such a lovely establishment. For a place that has duck & chicken tagine on the menu, I expected better. The drinks were fantastic and I’d recommend going for those & the bread, but for now I am put off on the main menu items. Between the burger & seeing the man next to me ask for salt as his omelette was underseasoned, I think the kitchen is perhaps in a period of having new staff learning the menu, and I will be back again in a few months to try that tagine & hopefully move this rating to the 5 stars I think this place can be.

Also, it was impossible to get our water filled. We had to wave and ask for it every time. Again, it took us forever to make eye contact to get the check. I will get that as my main course next time. Delicious! (Ate so quickly I didnt even get a pic.) Dessert was creme brulee and pastry puffs with ice cream and chocolate sauce (it has a name...I just forget!) The open kitchen is kind of fun to watch...such a bustle of activity! I would give the restaurant a 5 for the design, taste of food, and ambiance. The service was not great, however. We had the feeling that the server just did not care about her job or the establishment: she spilled The Green Fairy drink all over the table when pouring it, she left the spill until we asked her if we could get towels to clean the table up, and then there was no apparent care for the shells my husband found in his cooked oyster dish (this part grossed him out so much that he couldnt finish the last two). Well probably be back. Though we dont expect much going forward from a service standpoint next time, we hope our minds will be changed!

Have been twice for dinner, once on a weeknight and once on Friday. Both times the service and food were excellent. Creative takes on classic french-style dishes. For example, the profiteroles were classically presented, but each was topped with a little crunchy wafer that added both flavor and texture. The greeters, bartenders and wait staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and super helpful. Service level reminds me of Union Sq Cafe in NYC. Always try to come here when in Boston. Lived in France for a few years and this place is one of the few places with food as good as the better Parisian or Lyonaise bistros. Even something as simple as the Boston lettuce salad stands out for its perfect dressing, freshness, and flavor. Good to get all euro and eat it all the end of the meal, esp after some of the heartier dishes. I’ve seen some comments on service, and while it’s not perfect in France you’ll wait a half hour after asking for the check. One of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences that happened to me in recent times. I arrived at the restaurant as a party of 2 at evening time on Sunday, December 29th. To begin with, we did not know who our assigned server was because there was minimal-to-no customer-server interaction. When the food arrived after 1 hour, we sat and stared at our food blankly for 5 min, as the assigned server forgot to get us silverware! S/he also completely forgot to refill the beverage that we asked for, so we had to ask another server one more time. Moreover, no one asked the most basic customer questions, such as how is the food? or would you like check? We felt ignored and it seemed incredibly difficult to get the server s attention to get the bill. I had to stand up and leave my table to approach a random server nearby for the check. Either the assigned server (will remain unnamed) forgot to ask or deliberately did not ask (both are not good). My only guess for the possible reason behind those sequence of events is that I initially asked to change tables since I had cold symptoms. I am still not so sure if the servers were not properly trained or we were discriminated for our request. The only thing done right was having the table cleaned in between courses. Before I left the restaurant, I let one of the servers know about what I had to experience, and the restaurant bar manager later came to us and apologized. I was somewhat relieved to know that at least 1 employee was sympathetic to our dissatisfaction, but it was too late and we will never come back.

What a bummer this place is. So much potential but absolutely no execution from both the front and back of the house. I was excited to see what could be another great French restaurant arrive in town, competing against Gaslight and Eastern Standard but after my dinner experience last night... those two have absolutely nothing to worry about. Our first red flag was when we checked in about ten minutes prior to our reservation. The hostess said our table would be ready very shortly and pointed to the lovely bar as a place to hang for a bit. We ordered some drinks and my wifes cocktail was stellar. One of the very few redeeming items of the evening. We waited a bit and about 10 minutes past our reservation, we proceeded to check-in again and they had no idea what was going on and basically told us that the table wasnt ready. We patiently decided to stick it out - a huge mistake. Eventually, the hostess actually did her job and found us near the bar and tried to push a high-top on us in a desperate attempt to get us out of the queue. Hard pass lady. About fifty minutes past our reservation, we were finally seated. No real apology, or anything to do right by us.Menus were brought, sparkling water as well and we proceeded to order our food. We decided on the charred mushrooms ($14) and French onion soup ($12) as our appetizers. The mushrooms were bland, boring and the char on it was offputting, the latter being a recurring them with our entrees. The French onion soup was decent but not salted. Not enough depth of flavor, barely any sherry or seasoning. The bread service, however, was good. The baguette was pretty good and it came with some cornichons which were pretty awesome. The butter was cold and hard to spread; they should have served it at room temp to knock this out of the park. Our entres came shortly after and both of our steak frites ($32) were cooked to temp nicely. The fries were really good but the steaks were charred. Really charred, and not in a good way. It was very offputting and on the verge of burnt on the outside. It was such a nice piece of meat - we were both really bummed.Service was fine - nothing great, nothing bad really except for the hostesses not doing a very good job with the front of the house and managing the queue and reservations. All in all the place has some potential but completely missed the mark. The food was far from being as good as the likes of a Gaslight, Eastern Standard or even a Marliave. Frankly, any place that sits you down nearly an hour past your reservation and doesnt acknowledge it in any way shouldnt be in the hospitality business. But even if you look past this, the food just wasnt very good.

Lights out- its what both the neighborhood and the city have been missing. The ambiance is lively and fun, but the acoustics upstairs, something I really appreciate, make it just as good of a spot to enjoy a meal with my parents as it is for a fun date night. Start with the delicious crab remoulade, steak frites as a main course served with some of the best fries Ive ever had, and finish with the profiteroles. Will be back again and again!

I had dinner with two friends at Rochambeau earlier this week, what an absolutely amazing restaurant. The atmosphere is fun and energetic, the service was spot on and the food is incredible! There is a list of specialty cocktails and an extensive wine list.We started with the oysters which were served on ice with a fabulous mignonette, we then shared a caesar salad which was dressed perfectly and the wood grilled carrots. For main courses we had the lobster cavatelli and the duck lorange...WOW both were delicious.Do not leave without ordering dessert :).I will absolutely return to this restaurant next time I am in Boston!

Worst meal in my adult life. Am astonished by the poor quality of the food. Life is short. I’m done with this place. Horrible service as well. Yikes!

Update: Appreciated Emilys note, below, and did send email as instructed. No response. Will not be back.Very disappointing. Id been looking forward to dining at this new restaurant in my neighborhood as we need a good French bistro (especially since the closing of Brasserie Jo). As others have noted, the food is sub-par and the atmosphere borders on being irritating. The hangar steak frites were less than mediocre, with the steak chewy and the fries undercooked and cold. The Coq au Vin was fair, and the spinach and Boston lettuce sides unremarkable. As others have noted, the noise level is far too loud, making conversation difficult. To be fair, we were seated in the downstairs bar area. To be truthful, I was irritated that the upstairs dining room was closed - something it would have been nice to have known in advance. All in all a disappointing experience and I would not recommend Rochambeau.

Atmosphere and decor is great! Cocktails and drinks are tasty and not overpriced. The bread and charcuterie plate are my favorites!. My wife’s steak frites was excellent with good quality meat. Only minor complaint was one of our dishes, the lobster cavatelli was a bit over salted. Overall experience was positive and look forward to my next visit!

I live in the area, so I had been very excited to try Rochambeau and potentially turn it into a regular part of our restaurant rotation. I stopped in for brunch today with a couple friends on a whim. I immediately noticed the place was busy so I asked the host how long a wait would be for three. He asked if I had a reservation (strange question considering what I just asked him, but fine). No I dont have a reservation. After a strangely judgmental pause he responded with: there are absolutely no tables open. Ok....So I revert back to my original question: how long is the wait for 3? At this point his attitude and body language really made us feel like our presence was very much unwanted. An hour. Ok thats fine, can I put my name on the list? He took my name and phone number as youd expect. We figured we could walk around Eataly or something while we waited. Im not sure if he didnt enter my number correctly or what, but I never got a text confirmation, and we never heard from them again. We ended up having an awesome brunch across the street at Back Bay Social Club. Its just a shame since I was really looking forward to a good experience at Rochambeau. I even followed their Instagram page as they were building out the space during construction. There are too many good restaurants in the area to deal with a place that makes you feel like a burden. Good luck. We miss Towne.
