Review №1

This ancient Sun Temple dedicated to Lord Suryanarayan is situated adjacent to a very ancient pond in the village of Birugarh (Biru),District- Simdega, State-Jharkhand. Locally the temple is known as Khandia Deula (खंडिआ देउल translated to English as half broken temple) . The temple was probably built between 6th-9th century. The architecture is similar to the Odisha temple architecture of that period. The idol of Lord Suryanarayan in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is amazing. There is a new wall with a gate constructed with the support of the public to protect the monument. Local priest of adjacent temples and villagers worship the deity with devotion though no special ceremony/ritual attached to this temple. The heritage village of Birugarh contains many temples, fort and ruins of ancients structures which are important from archeological point. The Jharkhand Governments archeological department should protect these monuments and excavate the ruins which will help to understand the historical importance of this region of Jharkhand. There is no guide available and the temple is open for all. You may contact local priests of the village if wish to offer any specific Puja. If you wants to get into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple you are advised to take bath before entering, putting clean clothing ,remove shoes and leather items, wash(purify) yourself in the adjacent pond before entering. You are requested not to write anything on any part of temple structure and requested to maintain sanity of the place.
