The fame and prestige of the Mitra dynasty reached its peak during the time of Rameshwar Mitra. Rameshwar Mitra was the son of Pandit Mohan Mitra. In a word, a very educated and respectable person. Then Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was ruling India. Aurangzebs uncle Shaista Khan became the Governor of Bengal. Rameshwar Mitra was also the treasurer of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan and Shaista Khan of Bengal and was also an accountant. In 1604, he received the title of Mustafi directly from the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb for his excellence in work, and also received a gold panja as a memento. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. In 184, Rameshwar Mitra Mustafi built a magnificent Chandimandap. It is heard that people used to come from far and wide to see the beauty of this Chandimandap. An example of that beauty can still be seen in the almost ruined wooden architecture of the time inside the newly built Chandimandap. Another creation of Rameshwar Mitra Mustafi is the Radha-Krishna temple of Mitra-Mustafis house. At that time ‘Ekbangla’ or ‘Dochala’ temples were in vogue in Bengal. In 1894, Rameshwar built a pair of Bengali-style Radha-Krishna temples which are rarely seen in Bengal, not only in those days. Here we need to say something about the pair Bengali style. Apart from the Radha-Krishna temple of the Mustafis, the only pair of Bengali-style temples can be seen at Bishnupur in West Bengal, built in 1855 by Raghunath Singh Dev, king of Mallabhum. Usually this style temple was built by constructing two dochala houses side by side. The front dochala room is the balcony or natmandir and the back dochala room is the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. In a word, a unique construction technique of Bengal.
