Bidar Fort, officially known as Bidar Kote, stands tall with historical significance and architectural brilliance in the city of Bidar in Karnataka. This majestic fort in Karnataka is like a nostalgic throwback to the extravagant past of this country. This fort is a reminder of the strong and mighty Southern dynasty that used to rule over the land. Even though it is deserted now, it still is reminiscent of fortifications, colorful royal palace, museum, bastions, etc. The fort consists of a royal town with crumbling ruins of the bastions and gates, royal baths and kitchens, audience halls, and pleasure pavilions. The visitors can come here to relive the past and know more about the history of this Deccan monument.The Bidar Fort has hints of Islamic and Persian architecture in the nooks and corner of the monument. When Ahmad Shah renovated the old fortress of Bidar, he built an entire royal complex inside the ten-kilometer perimeter of the walls. The security inside the Bidar Fort was foolproof which is evident through the glacis, triple-layered moat, and the thick red laterite stone walls. It even withstood the Mughal attack by Aurangzeb until they started shooting the fire rockets.There are thirty-seven massive octagonal bastions in the Bidar Fort which have metal-welded cannons used to fire at the enemy. The largest bastion among them is the Munda Burj. The parapets are tunneled with openings that are meant for firing. There are seven big arching gateways in the fort; the Mandu Darwaza being the first one, followed by intermediary Sharza Darwaza named after the lions carved onto it, signifying the empire’s strength, and finally the Gumbad Darwaza with the ethnic Persian architecture leading into the main complex. The structure of the entire Bidar Fort is a reminder of Indian history and the rich past of the country’s monuments.Great place to visit if you love architecture. Hope you all get some info from this!THIS FORT WAS BUILT BY THE BAHMANI SULTAN AHMAD IN 1426-32 CE, WITH A 5.5 KM LONG IMMENSELY THICK WALL AND SEVERAL UNUSUAL DEFENCE FEATURES. THE FORT HAS A UNIQUE TRIPLE MOAT, BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN BUILT BY TURKISH MERCENARIES. THE FORT ABOUNDS IN TUNNELS AND UNDERGROUND CHAMBERS THAT ALLOWED QUICK ESCAPES IN EMERGENCIES. Awesome place to visit with family and friends....Found nicely maintained heritage values...Security people are polite. Overall enjoyed visit.

There is nothing much about the fort. I feel only the entrance is quite majestic. The security didnt allow us to the main hall of the fort . So there is no point in visiting the fort. One can only click picture only no videos allowed! So blogger be alert. The entry is free though. The government should take up some action to keep the fort to its glory.

Dont expect much and get disappointed. Someone should take care to protect this fort. Good place to get some nice pictures and put them as Dps for your social media accounts.

One of the best forts in South India. Very large and a visit is must to see the expanse of it. Many of the palace and other historical buildings are closed and can be viewed only from the outside. The road to the fort and grand entrance is sure to make people awe. A must visit place in Bidar.

Not very well maintained, but its a landmark and marks the history of the city.Nothing much is left to see, its mostly ruins, most of the areas are locked or sealed you can take a stroll across the fort, good for a walk. The breeze will sooth you and relax you.

Nice place with out much crowd. Nice drive from hyd. Finished the whole trip in half day. Found a small pond beside the fort and really surprised with the beauty and nice Ambience. Friendly locals and security people were helpful. Interestingly, I found a variety of birds in this place. Attached pictures along with review. The birds made the trip totally worth it.

They have closed each of the palaces. So u can just enter the complex and see the buildings from outside. There is no entry fee. Its better to carry umbrella. There is free parking. Not much to see, just you can take a walk inside for 15 mins

Great place, you can spend some quality time here, from bus stand and railway station its 20misn distance. Dont visit in the afternoon its really hot, try to visit in the morning or evening. No restraunt, bring your own water bottle and snacks from outside.

Well maintained Historical Site

The fort is very huge and it definitely represents the heritage of Bidar.It is a good place to hang out with friends and family.

Nice place for a weekend drive. About 2.5 hours from Hyderabad. Road conditions till fort is very good. Big fort. Many of the places inside the fort are closed. Might be to avoid crowd. Parking is free. Kids will love as they can climb many stairs and run around. No security checks done at entrance. Mask is mandatory.

Excellent historic fort, built magnificently. There is an excellent museum, but no guides as of now.

A fort maintained clean as well there is no plastic covers on the ground where around I look, it looks good take a walk or jogg at the morning, the natural air feels health, peaceful and free air conditioning place.The securities were good there profession and guiding the public as well .

Another amazing fort. Though the fort is open at 6 AM, ASI staff comes around 930 AM.There are places which are under lock and key to protect the monuments from being vandalized or scribbled and may be the right thing to do a we do see a lot of unruly visitors.If you are serious pls check with local ASI staff if they can show you the locked rooms with guide who can monitor the movements of the visitors.

One of the best places to visit in Bidar, 3km away from Railway Station and 2km away from Bus Station transportation services are available to reach out without any hustle. It is a great historical place but some of the buildings in the fort are damaged and some of the Mahals are closed in the fort and museums will give us much information.

Bidar is a small town in the northernmost tip of Karnataka state. It is about 135 km driving distance from Hyderabad. The Bidar Fort is the most impressive and historic monument in Bidar. Sultan Alla-Ud Din Bahman of the Bahamani Dynasty built this fort when he shifted his capital from Gulbarga to Bidar in 1427. The fort compound is protected by a moat and a wall. There are about 30 monuments inside the fort compound.When we visited the fort in October-2020 there were very few visitors due to the restrictions on travel during the pandemic. There is a parking lot next to the entrance. There were some security guards posted at the entrance gate and we had to enter our details even though the parking and entry was free. We were quite impressed with the imposing structures, though they were in a decaying condition, and the wide moat which was surrounded by the fort walls. There were well laid out gardens and parks and the monuments are being taken care of by the ASI.The main monuments to visit inside the fort are the 1) Rangin Mahal (Painted Palace), 2) Takht Mahal (Throne Room), 3) Jami Masjid (Great Mosque), and 4) Sola Khamba Masjid (sixteen pillar mosque). One can easily spend a couple of hours browsing at the fort and admiring the ancient and imposing Persian style of architecture. A song from the hit 2011 hit Bollywood movie ‘The Dirty Picture’ was filmed inside the fort premises.

Located on Ground level. Not much of walking required, as in other forts. Good for photography..

Right now owing to COVID-19 restrictions, the Rangeen Mahal is not open for visitors. You can still see the rest of the fort. Its nice for photography as you can get different backgrounds for your pics. You will get to see the fine architecture , the amunition guns , swords used by the rulers of this place.

Good place for people who like historical places. No entrance fees when I visited in December 2020.

Incredible!!Bidar Fort is one of the most scenic forts in India. Bidar is the place where the Western Ghats end. If you look towards East, from the eastern gate of the city, towards Telangana you will feel the red hills of Deccan frittering away. Towards the east there are plains.Bidar Fort is situated at this strategic geographical juncture. It is a quiet, serene place. Lying in a remote corner of Karnataka it is almost forgotten by the mainstream tourists.Bidar Fort is one of the glories of the Bidar district of Karnataka, its northernmost district. The fort was originally built by the Kakatiya Hindu dynasty which was destroyed by the Islamic Delhi Sultanate. The Fort then fell into the hands of the Bahmanis, who rebuilt it.Then it was annexed by the Adil Shahi dynasty of Bijapur and then after then it was successively occupied by the Barid Shahis of Bidar and the then the armies of Aurangzeb. It finally fell into the hands of the Asaf Jahi Nizams of Hyderabad, from whom it got independence only in 1948.

Good place to watch... There are no roaming vehicles allowed inside the fort... Too much walking will make you bore.

Beautiful peaceful place outside the city. As Bidar city , Bidar Fort is also a calm quite place. Usually not a crowded place. We can visit the fort for free from morning 9 till evening 5. Good location for shooting and all. Well maintained and clean place.

An awesome fort. located 30 kms from NH65.Bidar fort is very huge. rich in culture and has lots of historical importance especially, the main bidar fort.Lots of Nizam and Turkish 🇹🇷 architecture around this fort.This fort is similar to Hyderabadi Golkonda fort. It is around 200kms from Hyderabad.It is built at a very high altitude. So, the entire Bidar can be seen from the top of this fort. be careful if climbing the steps especially in the rainy season.Good parking space provided.no entrance or parking fees.photographer is available.can expect some visitors.overall, enjoyed this fort.must visit for anyone.Thanks.

Everything is clean and awesome to experience. But, most of the places were locked for entry, completely a dissapointed visit. Authority should have opened them for entry and increase security gaurds for monitoring.

My favourite restaurant in bangalore. I have always loved the food here and have recommended this place to several of my friends and relatives.. Barbecue grills are my favourite here, try chicken dajaj and chicken xacoti.. Sizzlers are too tasty.

You can go as a couple and enjoy the view as well.If you love, history, art & architecture this is the place for you. As a matter of fact, it hasnt been much commercialized yet so enjoy this amazing place soulfully !

We liked the place due to its being a heritage site. However, could have been maintained better by charging some nominal entry fees to make it sustainable. Karnataka tourism or India tourism should take more initiatives to promote tourism by keeping local guides who can explain the history of fort to tourists.

Sultan Alla-Ud Din Bahman built this in 1427 when he shifted his capital from Gulbarga. The area is too vast and we can see the fort ruins in nearby villages. The Turkish designs of the fort is a feast for archeology lovers. Museum is a must checkout in the fort. The large tree in the fort is no more. Two wheelers were allowed inside fort but as of now not permitted considering COVID. A Good trip from Hyderabad with friends.

Fort is 3km away from railway station. Transportation facilities are available to reach there without much hustle. The fort is a recommendable if you happended to be at Bidar. Otherwise nothing special about the fort considering the fact that India is home for many jaw dropping forts. Best time to visit the fort is spring season because of the pleasant climate.

Bahmani fort is one of the best historical and archeological place many treasure have been obtained in the search by govt and still others need to obtain expecting some many more to explore

Well maintained though there is nothing much to see. Only a small palace with a park , a prison and a grand entrance door with huge boundry wall. Dont forget carry a bottle of water you might need them.

This is one of the less know forts in this area. Very well maintained. Its massive and huge. The reflection of Bahamani kingdom is perfectly seen here.

The fort consists of vast area with several ruins. One can experience age old architecture and structural designs used to confront enemy. The old fort is quite far away and one needs to walk around 1.5 km to reach over there. The place can take about 2-3hrs to explore thoroughly.

One of most Beautiful place of the Bidar city.There is No Entry fees. And there is no fees for taking photography and videos inside the fort. It is the one of the evidential place of ancient history and shares excellent knowledgeable architecture of Shathavahanas, Cholas Sultans etc. It is the biggest and longest fort we can continue through it for a long time to watch it fully...👌

Wow what a place to visit. Nicely maintained. Some peoples are disturbing heritage. So some areas in fort are closed for reguler public. But still it can be visited with special permission from concern department. Almost 900 years old fort.

The red sand stone structure spanned across a wide area is an excellent quick out of state ride for hyderabadis. Spare some time and energy over this and hit on a proper season. You will enjoy the ride to it and the nostalgic ruins of the fort.

The fort is worth seeing. You can see this place within an hour or two depending upon your pace. Over all it was a good experience and if you are crazy for photos, you can get some pretty good clicks.

Spectacular, massive fort with a lot of ruins.Most of the buildings are locked and inaccessible because they face imminent collapse, but I’m happy to see that the powers that be are working at preserving some of the structure.Set aside half a day to explore the fort along the boundary walls.Also, don’t miss the tombs a few kilometers away.Note: Both parking and fort entry are free as of September 2018.

Bidar fort is good place to visit near around Hyderabad. It is almost 110km from Hyderabad. I like the fort but I specially liked the drive to this place. There is Gurudwara and Narshiman swami temple near by. So good driver to Bidar fort.
