Kapileshwar temple, is one of the oldest temple, in the temple city Bhubaneswar, in the Indian State of Odisha. This temple is dedicated to lord Shiva and is older than Lingaraj temple. The breathing of the lingam, ie. Inhale and exhale of the diety, makes It totally different, from all the other temples. It is not only said, but the priests, prove it, with the help of agarbatti sticks or with a burning diya. If the lingam inhales, then the smoke moves inside the nozzle hole and if It exhales, then the smoke spreads. If the agarbatti sticks are kept either side of the nozzle point than the smoke go straight up in the air. The Abhishek of the god is also performed in a different manner. A dhoti/ cloth, is tied up at the nozzle point. All the water exits are packed, the main door is packed with a wooden sheet and mud, and then the priests pour innumerable buckets full of water, from the holy well, till the water level rises up, of the lingam. These two features are very unique of this temple. Apart from this the temple is well decorated with stone cut work. There is a big pond beside the temple.

If you place Diya near the deity then it will extinguish and you can here the breathing sound . The road to the temple is very narrow. Only a two wheeler can pass through the road.

The Kapilesvara temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Siva located in the south western outskirt of the village Kapilesvara, Old Town, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India. It is located at the end of Kapilesvara road leading from Lingaraj temple to Kapilesvara Village. The presiding deity is a Siva-lingam at the center of a circular yonipitha inside the sanctum. It is a living temple, facing towards east and maintained by Kapilesvara Temple Trust Board. The temple is situated within the precinct along with 33 other monuments. The precinct is located on the northern embankment of Manikarnika tank over an area of 44.00 square metres.The dominant feature of the temple is the 60 foot high temple and its adjacent pond, surrounded by stone steps. The temple is a satellite of the main temple in Bhubaneswar, the Lingaraj temple. Both these temples, like other temples in India are centres of social, political, and educational activities. Until the middle of the 20th century, the temple dominated the economic, political and ritual life of the place.[1] The temple was built during 14th Century A.D. during Suryavamsi rule of Kapilendra Deva. Inscription of Kapilendra deva and other architectural sculptural fragments suggest the original temple could be earlier than 11th Century A.D.

Its really a good place and has a lot of free space for relaxing. But there is no good enough facilities for meals and also no parking lot. It was very much crowded in festivals like Lingaraj temple and has its unique story and history.

Its An age old Shiva temple with beautiful architecture and a peaceful surroundings. A big pond filled with fishes is also there.

The temple, tank are awesome. Loads of sculptures in there. Pandas trouble you a lot here pestering for pooja and money. Taking photos except in sanctum, is allowed. Temple is open for most part of the day leaving pooja time intervals of a few mins.

Most of the tourists from south dont know about such a old temple exist in Bhubaneswar. Some importance may be given by Odisha tourism department.
