|| Kelucharan Mohapatra: The Pioneer of Odissi in Modern Odisha || Today is the birthday of this great odissi dancer and guru. He was born on 8th January 1926. He was a legendary Indian classical dancer, guru, and exponent of Odissi dance, who is credited with the revival and popularizing of this classical dance form in the 20th century. He is the first person to receive the Padma Vibhushan from Odisha. In his youth, Kelucharan Mohapatra performed Gotipua - a traditional dance form of Odisha where young boys dress up as woman to praise Lord Jagannath. Later in his life he did extensive research on Gotipua and Mahari dance, which lead him to restructure Odissi dance. Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra was a master in Percussion instruments - Mridangam, Pakhavaj and Tabla, which clearly resonates in his dance compositions. He was also skilled in the traditional Pattachitra painting. Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra along with his wife, Laxmipriya, herself a dancer, and their son Ratikant Mohapatra built @srjangkcmon in 1993. Once he has said, Odissi is not a mere dance form to entertain people but to inspire and elevate. I dont actually dance but pray in compassion and the spectators say that this form is dancing. I had Visited on 10 aug 2019 occasion of biswa adibasi diwas. Enjoying the most. Theres ample space for parking. The management is also appreciable. many things for kids also. so that they also feel connected... overall a good place to visit... is not bit far from Jayadev vihar city Bhubaneswar and has a very limited market nearby but nonetheless is must recommend for a visit...

A very nice and spacious place, located near Xavier square, Nandan Kanan Road, Bhubaneswar. A medium sized auditorium inside the campus. Adequate parking space. Nice place to conduct meetings/seminars etc.

Large stage with lovely AV system but restricted seating arrangements.
