The studio of Doordarshan Kendra Bhopal was commissioned on 20 October 1992. It was inaugurated by the then President of India Dr.Shankar Dayal Sharma in 1992. It started as a Regional Kendra and has ever since played a major role as a Public Service Broadcaster for viewers of the state. It has enormously enriched the ethos of this land while projecting and promoting the cultural heritage of the State.Although the main language of transmission is Hindi, yet programmes in other dialects which are spoken in the different parts of Madhya Pradesh viz. Bagheli, Bundeli, Nimari & Malvi are also included in the telecasts.

Doordarshan Kendra Bhopal is located on Shymla Hills Road near Jehan Numa Palace Hotel. It is one of the best known Station of Doordarshan in Central India. Location wise this is the most valyable location in entire Bhopal city. Doordarshan can be reached from many sides, most convenient being from Polytechnic chowk. It can also be reached from Kamla Park and also from Badbada.

A central Government office working under Prasar Bharti Board. Regional DDKendra in Bhopal telecast its programme through Satellite round the clock. Famous for MP states flora & fauna and folks, in short. It was inaugurated by the then President Sh. Shankar Dayal Sharma on 20th October 1992 in studio No. Of this T V Center in Bhopal just before me. Mrs. Salma Sultan, a by famous news reader of Doordarshan, was the anchor. Mr. Sathish Agarwal was then Director of this Kendra located on Shymala Hills, Bhopal. There was limited entry, as the studio was overcrowded and secuy was also there. A very happy and charming environment was there. Guests were curious to watch Salma than the President, as she was seen only on Doordarshan, which had the monopoly of telecast of programs. Then no private channel was accessible here. Viewers watched the DD programs with high Antina rod upto 15 feet high. Very amusement was there but now the viewership has declined drastically.Today A Safai Abhiyan is launched which will be up to 2nd October 2018.
