Great historic place with many religious beliefs. It is believed that its the place where goddess Sati sacrificed herself in the fire because everyone was making fun of her husband (Lord Shiva). It also has one ghat where you can bath in the holy water of Ganga.

In the Rigveda, Daksha is an Aditya and is associated with priestly skills. Many Puranic scriptures mention him as the father of many daughters, who became the progenitor of various creatures. According to one legend, Daksha conducted a yajna (fire sacrifice) and didnt invite his youngest daughter Sati and her husband Shiva. He was beheaded by the god Virabhadra for insulting Sati and Shiva, but Daksha was resurrected with the head of a goat. Many Puranas state that Daksha was reborn to Prachetas in another Manvantar.

Place where Devi Parvati offered herself to fire because her Husband Lord Shiva was insulted in that occasion by her Father Daksh Prajapati. Lord Shiva then carried her corpses towards Kailash and the organs which fell on earth while going to Kailash became Sidhpeeth of Devi.

So this is the origin place of Shaktipithas.Holy river Ganga is flowing right next to the temple, where arti is done every evening, the temple is Beautifully coloured. The Pujari will explain you the History behind the temple very well if you ask, and it is written on several boards as well.A large parking space is available in front of temple, so parking is not an issue at all, though the road to reach there is a bit narrow and tricky.

The historic importance of this place is huge in terms of events occurred here, like sati is cut into 52 pieces by sudarshan chakra by lord Vishnu, as well as lord Shiva beheaded ( decapitation)the raja daksha and head goes into hawan kund in agani disrupting the flow of Yagya ( meditative process, a ritual) and many more such stories associated with this place. The flow of stream in Ganga here is very high due to upper curve of water flow that adds circular velocity to normal flow.

It is believed that this place is belongs to lord Shiv Shankar’s in laws and Mata Sati’s father Raja Daksha had organised that grand yagya here at this particular place where Mata Sati were jumped off in sacred fire of yagya. Hence, this is a sacred place for Hindu religion and people do visit it with faiths. Very beautiful place indeed.

A mythological and religious temple of lord Shiva and his first wife goddess Sati. Story: Daksh, the father of goddess Sati was the emperor of the place Kankhal and didnt invite Shiva and Sati at a grand Yagn organized while all others were invited. Feeling humiliated, Sati bornt herself in tha holy fire of Yagn and Veerbhadr, a part of Shiva, beheaded the king Daksha. Lord shiva cried and angered hard with burnt body of Sati in his arms. The lord Vishnu cut down the body of Sati into 52 Pieces to calm down Shiva and those parts whereever fell down on the Earth, became Shaktipeeths. The tears fell down from Shivas eyes have been evolved as Rudraksh tree, it is believed. A branch of Holy river Ganga is flowing meters away from the temple, enhancing the spirituality of the place.

Its a good temple to visit but to reach there youve to go through a very narrow road old market area.

Pathetic place to stay!We told them almost 5 to 6 times to change the bed sheets but still no one came and then at the last we had to manage our own and use it.The tea kettle was so dirty and broken.Even that was not changed by the staff.Only one guy we found was responsive and good at nature was the guy who took our luggage.

Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple,located at Kankhal, Haridwar, Uttarakhand at a distance of 4 kms from Har ki Pauri. Queen Dhankaur is said to have built it in 1810, but it was actually rebuilt in 1962.This is one of the famous temples in Haridwar as it has beautiful architecture and is a must-visit for devotees and tourists alike. This is the place where Dakshaprajapathy performed Yagya.Though he gave his dauther Sati in marriage to Lord Shiva, he was jealous of him and thought himself to be superior. So he invited Lord Vishnu and all devas for the Yagna but didnt invite Lord Shiva and his cosort.Hearing about the big yagna, Sati devi wanted to attend the same thoiugh she was not invited. Lord Shiva try to resopn with her as to why she should not attend. But she was insistent and so Lord reluctantly let her go. When she reached the yagasala, she was shocked that her father had sidelined Lord Shiva and was not going to offer the havirbaga to Lord. Sati tried to reason out with Dakshaprajapathy - but on the contrary, he insulted Lord Shiva. Unable to bear the insult, Sati devi ended her life by entering the sacrificial fire.Hearing about the same, Lord Shiva was enraged and sent Lord Veerabadra who came from the locak of Lord Shivas hair and his boothaganas to destroy Dakshan. Veerabadra cut his head and Dakshans wife pleaded with Lord Shiva for mercy and he replaced the head by a goats head. Dakshaprajapathy realized his mistake and asked for his pardon. All these events took place at the yagasala of Dakshan.Must visit this Shiva temple in Haridhwar.
