It is obviously a unique experience to see closely such amazing mamals. The only problem is that it seems that the animals live in distress, mainly due to lack of space. The park was enlarged in the past, now it is practically impossible to enlarge it.Near by there is the tram depot bar!
Went to Bern and saw the bears, didnt know they were there, and went to see them. In a large outdoor enclosure of approx. 250 metres by 100 m ....a very big and seemingly adequate for the three bears..
Several bears residing in a near natural woodland setting. Easy viewing by public. Best to observe these wonderful creatures during morning hours.
The bears in the city center - its awesome!
Interesting place but need more bears to attract more people. The location itself is very easy to access.
Nice place,magical atmosphere.
Just by the bridge overlooking the river is this bear attraction in Berne. It was raining that day so the bears did not come out to play.Beautiful views of the river, which had a distinct pale green-blue colour perhaps from the minerals contained or the river bed.
One of the only places in Switzerland where one can see a bear. Plus a nice restaurant with good beer.
Lovely setting. Just not my cup of tea to enjoy seeing Bears in captivity.
What a view and bears are majestic! Bars and restaurants surrounding. Nice moment.
Fun for 2 then you remember that theres no ethical reasons to keep them here
Beautiful riverside park. The bears are great and so cute. Its viable by foot and also for strollers.
Well worth a walk by,and if you get to see a bear all the better.Only saw the 1 thou, there might be 3 in total reading the signs. It was a warm day and i think it was ideal to keep cool(see photo). We approached the Barenpark from the road bridge over the River Aare which is above the area and towards the old bear pit(small site) which use to be a roundabout.Up next to the bear pit you get to overlook their enclosure and i could see an open gate, what be a extension of their area for them to wander about, but we cant see.
Since 1513 bears have been at home in Bern; until 1857 in the town itself, then in the bear pit, and since 2009 in the new and spacious bear park. The site on the banks of the Aare stretches from the former bear pit opposite the Old Town to the river. Thanks to a lift, the entire facility is now wheelchair-friendly. The “Bear Pit”, which still exists and has been listed as a federal cultural asset of national significance, remains at the bears disposal.
Lovely new enclosure for the bear who spent most of his time in the water cooling off in the sunshine...well worth the visit
A nice place to pop by while Im Bern. Only saw one bear but the setting was really peaceful
Bears are rarely visible but city view is beautiful
A must if you are visiting beautiful Bern...The bears appear to be very happy and extremely healthy.
You should be very patient to see one of the bears. Maybe because it was too hot in August ...
There be bears! The bear is the symbol of the city of Bern, and so they have decided to adopt a couple of brown bears. They built the bear pit by the river, it is a very large enclosure where the happy couple, and now their young daughter, can roam freely among big trees. In the summer they have a pool of fresh water to play and swim in and cool down when it gets really warm. They go about their business and the tourists can enjoy them for as long and they want, it is free and open to everyone!
Very interesting to see the well behaved bears
There is a bear pit 10 mins walk from the old city!We accidentally took a scenic route along the river to reach this location because of the direction we were approaching from, but there really isnt much distance from the centre of town.An unusual attraction in a city that already has much to see in terms of historical and architectural interest.
The only beautiful thing about animals in captivity is when they have a great place to live and you see them well.
Nice place to see the Bear (which means Bern in Deutsch) up close. Normally around noon is the time when Bear is actually in the pit which is up close. Otherwise it can be seen on the slope towards the river.P.S. Bear is not there in winter months
Love that place! Amazing view with the beautiful river and also the historical old town. There are a few big and small bridges, and of course the bear park with the amazing bears!
One of the landmarks of Bern. I have seen it more than ten years ago for a first time. Now the conditions for the bears are hugely improved. The habitat is made wider and more natural. If you decide to visit during winter, keep in mind that most likely the bears will be sleeping.
Decent sized naturalized habitat for three beautiful bears. They can hide in bush and shade, swim in the river and lay in the sun as they like.
10mins bus ride from Bern Bahnof. 3bears spotted in a well maintained open enclosure. Climb down to the river and enjoy scenic view of Bern city and cathedral
Bears seem happy and full of free space. Interestng spot of wildness in the heart og the city.
On the bank of aar river, this place is really serene. I have visited this place thrice but never got a chance to see the bears. But even if you dont get a chance to see them, it is worth visiting.
Taking your cantons symbol to the next level 😀
A great place, but mostly because it has gorgeous views of Bern. If you walk to the bottomof the pit you can sit next to the bright blue River and dip your feet in while enjoying a view of Bern. The bears are nice but sometimes hard to see, also their enclosure looks too small (probably still larger than a zoo bear enclosure but much smaller than any natural habitat)
Easy to visit by bus. We saw 4 bears. They seem quite lazy though 🤣🐻
We had a lot of fun playing City Golf, breathtaking views and visiting the local bears.
Very unique way to watch bears. I spent more than an hour just staring at them. They look like the happiest bears on earth.
They actually have real bears living outside your windows.one of those must-be places in town.
Must see when visiting Bern. Very unique to see 3 live bears living in the City. Fantastic place to see Bern old City and GREAT place to relax/have a picnic
You get to see the bears only in summer. In winter, they go into hibernation. The bears are normally found on the levels which are steep and are visible from upstairs. The view is good.
Its touristical. Many people are there during vacation period but, we spended a nice time and we saw a Bear🍯🐻💤 I remember that Ive heard at the time thats the mother with her two bear cub. U can have a nice ride next to the river. There is restaurant and bar over there. Enjoy ur time 😊
Amazing all area near the bearsYou can see bears very close and I really recommend
The place is nice but we didnt see much of the bears, they stayed always in one place and they dont do much.
Visited the Barenpark in July 2019 and it was an incredible experience. The bears are absolutely gorgeous and it was so wonderful to see them up close. I fell in love with them straight away. You can reach the Barenpark by taking bus 12 (Direction towards Paul Klee Centre) and its a few stops. The bus counts down and lists the names of places so you wont miss your stop. Worth it as walking there is quite a walk but you can take your time walking through the old town on the way back. When you arrive there is a pit and the biggest bear came onto the rock so I was able to get a very good view and another bear was by one of the flaps to their house. The bears do have plenty of space as their little flaps lead to their forest style walkway haven on the hill where they have paths/logs and trees to shade from the sun and at the bottom is a place where they can swim and keep cool. You can take the Lift funicular which transports you to the bottom of the hill where you can see the bears swimming. I was so lucky whilst I was here I got to see ALL three bears swimming and basking in the water. It was so nice to see them up close and watch them forage for food and keep cool. There is plenty of space for everyone to see them and take turns watching the bears and taking photos. Definitely pay a visit to the famous bears of Bern when you visit. They are absolutely beautiful!
Love it since my childhood
Such a wonderful city with great spots. Worth to visit!
BEARS!!! Although it says Bear Pit the city actually has a pretty swank set up for the bears. They have a separate huge space that connects with the pit where they can roam around. If you are going to Bern, you gotta see the bears. Because. Bears. They wake up from hibernation at the end of March according to the sign...so April until the winter months are a good time to see them.BEARS!
Bear was hibernating...too cold I guess. Beautiful old buildings. Nice place
Loved seeing the bears up close. Even enjoyed dangling our feet in the cold water off the river on a hot day
We saw one brown bear in the woods. Kids loved watching him wander in the woods. You come across a rose garden and can enjoy spectacular views around there. If too hot soak in the water stream running along there.
Bear enclosure along the Aare river. May have to be patient if you want to see them
Lovely place. If you are lucky you could see all the 3 bear together
A good place to witness wild life right in the middle of the city! Saw quite a few bears residing in a large pit. Watching them play around the area, bathing in a small pond can be interesting to the kids for sure!
We were so lucky to see the bears and they were active and kept posing for us.
When the sun is out, the bears are out :), go early in the morning to have a better chance of seeing them in the open. Because they are more much more active in the morning. :)
Nice free exhibit in Bern. Bears have a huge enclosure taking up some of the river bank took. Bears are in excellent health.
Bear pit at entrance of old city of Bern, Switzerland. The zoo is well maintained with access to river water and pretty good space for bears.
Nice Place with nice view of the old City of Bern
Much better now the bears have been moved to an enclosure along the river giving them space to enjoy .
Well its clean and breathtakingly deep, quite a sight to behold and it never gets old... I guess the bears are social distancing though, they were no where to be found.
Nice view of downtown from the top of bears house
A lovely place to visit! You can actually see grown bears as well as cubs swimming and eating in the lake.
Nice place to visit. Its free to visit and you can watch bears . Bears have a lot of space to freely move and access to the river which is nice.
Happy to see they have woods now.
Always a pleasure to watch those bears. They also have a big area to walk around.
Best part: FREE OF CHARGE!!! 😅👍🏻The three bears were doing their thing....eating, drinking and sleeping....Was entertained by one who climbed a tree.Has a nice piece of historical knowledge in the lowerground area. And yeah, there is the Albert Einstein statue on a bench overlooking the Aare river and skyline og Bern.A must visit when in Bern.
The free bear park, near the symbol of the capital city of Switzerland, Bern. By the side of river Aare the pit has three bears and is the center of attraction. The first thing people visit when they are in the city Bern.Just from the pit is beautiful city and river Aare.
The bear got to sleep! Can’t see!
