I haven’t traveled in a while but just recently took a family trip to the San Francisco bay area for fun and adventure. One of our excursions was to nearby Berkeley so that my teenager could visit the UC Berkeley campus. Once finished, we were hungry and a quick check of the internet turned up lots of recommendations to Eureka Restaurant in downtown.Eureka Restaurant specializes in American food. They have a large selection of whiskey and a very nice selection of craft beer. I went for a beer immediately while the wife went for a specialty drink. We were seated right by the entrance, and it was wide open with fresh air blowing from the outside. They had heaters to provide warmth, which is good because this part of the country can get chilly, even in the summer. They even have outdoor dining and it’s rather unusual. It’s a standalone structure built between the sidewalk and the street, great for those who want to eat amid nature’s elements.With the food, they serve appetizers, entrees, etc and specialize in burgers. I decided on a burger and I was quite impressed. The cooked it perfectly and the toppings and bun all added up to an excellent meal. I can’t think of any way the burger could have been improved. The other family members were equally impressed with their food selection as well. Everything from the appetizers to the main course was just right.With parking, you can either park on the street or use the adjacent parking garage. We used the garage and when we left the restaurant, we noticed the doors had been closed on the garage. We wondered what happened, then realized it was because the garage had closed to new customers. Our car was still accessible- we just had to open a side door, pay for our parking, then as we left the garage door opened for us. Bottom line: Don’t panic if you leave the restaurant and see the garage doors to parking garage are closed. You can still get your car.Service was excellent at Eureka Restaurant. They were attentive and refilled our drinks in a timely manner. Summing everything up, it was a most excellent way to end our day in this Bay area city and it’s a restaurant that earns high recommendations to anyone looking for American food, beer, and whiskey.

Waited 45 minutes to get one beer. First item of food for our table of three did not arrive until an hour into us ordering. One persons Bison burger arrived about 50 minutes into us sitting down, and they were finished with their food before the appetizer even got to our table. We also had to ask no less than 4 times for some water, to which out assigned service completely ignored (dude with the green hair), and another nice server heard that we needed water and rushed over to get us some. I understand that there is a server shortage, but there was zero communication from our server to our table, even if he came to us and let us know that they were swamped, that would be understandable. One hour and twenty minutes after we ordered, and still no sight of the food the rest of our table ordered.

We got here pretty early and still had to wait about half an hour. The wait gets even longer later so definitely come earlier! The ambiance was very modern and hip and the service was really nice and attentive. We were checked up on quite a few times. I got the turkey burger with a salad. The dressing was really good! The burger was pretty good but I really think the dressing was the star of the plate. Pretty pricy for a burger but if you dont mind splurging, I would recommend coming.

This is a great place to take a date or just hang out with friends. The atmosphere is very calm and welcoming and the drinks are great. The staff is extremely attentive and to top it off the food is delicious. I ordered the brussel sprouts and I give them a 8 out of 10. I gave it an 8 because there just wasnt enough (so delicious). I also ordered the fries with a truffle cheese sauce and I had to order an extra cup to go. The chicken nachos were delicious as well the chipotle sauce...I need the recipe. Just wish they would have added a bit more chicken but other than that I have no complaints. This is for sure Eureka!

Was out and about today, and met up with my kids and grandkids and they suggested stopping at Eureka! Nice open feeling, clean restaurant, friendly staff, had tvs showing sporting events. Ended up trying a couple appetizers, and a few burgers, nachos, and the grandkids went for the chicken strips and a cheeseburger. Appetizers were tasty, we had Mac& Cheese balls, and their Truffle fries with sea salt and their special dipping sauce, both were tasty indeed. Then I tried the Cowboy burger, which came with bacon, cheddar cheese, and crispy onion strings, and was served with fries. Burger was cooked as ordered and was served, hot and promptly. It was very tasty and satisfying to the afternoon hunger. Added a Watermelon Hibiscus drink (light on the spicy) and was very happy, as it too was tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meals and all left full and satisfied. If in the area definitely would give them a look and taste. They have a nice menu of choices, and a full bar if you are so inclined for an adult beverage or beer. All in all, nice expierience today, our waiter and staff were friendly, service was good, food was good. So until next time, Bon Appetit and stay safe

Eureka has several good appetizers to start off your visit. The truffle fries are a good choice but there are several others, too, like the macaroni and cheese balls, falafel bites, and other options. I found the service quite attentive also- the wait staff was right back at our table right when we needed them.

I had the Eureka! American burger. It was juicy and flavorful. They use thousand island dressing and if you like onions, you’ll have to ask for them. The fries were crispy and flavorful, too. Our waiter was great, too.

Eureka is really busy now, inside and out. Food is consistently good, the brussel sprouts are an excellent appetizer! A limited menu, but good enough (e.g., burgers) given all the Covid challenges. Beer selection is great, divided in categories for easier selection. Our wait person was genuinely friendly and indicated that she was happy to be working again.

Good food and pretty reasonable price large beer selection as well. However service wasnt ideal and there was an incident with a homeless individual shouting and scaring people inside. Hopefully thats not a typical experience

The food was really good. My girlfriend and I both got a burger and fries (I got maple sweat potato fries, which were excellent). Minus two stars though because they forced us to sit on the street, because both my girlfriend and I are not vaccinated yet. The entire venue is open to the outside, but whatever it’s Berkeley and they are really trying to force the vaccination on people. But not only did we have to sit outside in the cold, we were told that all the heat lamps were out of fuel. If you are going to force your paying customers to sit out side, at least try to make it comfortable. I really felt like we were being treated differently or less than just because we weren’t vaccinated.

Found a great place for lunch by picking up this American burger togo. Service was excellent, restaurant is very clean, and prices fair.Onto the food. First the taste. It has a pleasant cinnamon smell emanating from the fries. Not sure if that was intentional but it was a welcome surprise. Fries could have used more salt but I can also flip that around because it seems like theyve done me a solid to keep my blood pressure down. Honey mustard was very good. Burger was cooked exactly as specified, bun had a wonderful color, sauce was perfect, and was very inoffensive. It tastes like the best burger you can make and remember from a backyard barbeque.The quality here at Eureka cannot be denied. It is as fresh as it comes and I was particularly impressed with the homemade pickles. Wow!Value. This definitely tastes worth its price but definitely not more than that so its in a good place. Proportions was a slight issue for me because it was a lot of food and I just couldnt stop eating! Where this place shines is in if fresh and in house ingredients.I happily look forward to returning.

Fried. Cheese. Balls.Those are bomb! The burgers are great, and I love that when Im on keto I can get a lettuce bun and coleslaw.I dont like some of the recent changes to the happy hour...and they used to have THE BEST ginger beer. Now they use a ginger syrup and use soda water...yuck!The happy hour used to be any one mixer and a well liquor. Now its just a couple pre-selected drinks. If I were a beer drinker, the HH selection is better. I also wish they had a veggie side on the menu that was actually healthy...aka, not slathered in sugar and butter. All that said, when I want pub food, Im always drawn here... I eat their food like once a month.

Really great indoor/outdoor environment here. Burger medium rare was excellent! Too many TVs but I suppose most people enjoy sports. Happy hour special watermelon drink was tasty, but I think its lacking in vodka. Love that they are open late. Will be back!

Beer selection is awesome, staff is busy but careful and kind, and burger is just amazing. Marrow burger is a must try. If you like American food with an easy going atmosphere, this is your place.

We had lunch in this restaurant recently. Jalapeno egg burger was fantastic. Highly recommend to anybody.

If at half-capacity expect to wait a very long time to get seated; they seem to gatekeep hard at hosting. Aspirational food that fails to achieve. The beer list is nominally above average, but just. Service is fundamentally apathetic.

This place has a lovely ambience! It sets the tone for a pleasant evening in Berkeley. Great food and drinks on the menu!

This is such a cute burger and American appetizers joint! Loved it.

I had really high hopes for this place, but had a really bad experience. Had to wait for over 20 mins for the server to come take my order, and then took at least 50 more mins to arrive, which ended up being a wrong order.The ambience and the place is good. But I wish the service was better.

Food was good. Servers were friendly. We got a lot of food and couldnt finish it all. We got to go boxes for our left overs and forgot them on the way out. We were literally a few paces outside of the front door when we remembered we forgot our left overs on the table. We went back in to get them and they had already thrown them away. It was not more than 30 seconds since we walked out and they had thrown away more than half of my entree. The full boxes of food were thrown away but the table hadnt been bused yet; it was still full of dishes. Kind of ruined the experience.

Management is just terrible. And the employees or “employee” seemed very stressed and over worked. He seemed completely frustrated as soon as I asked my first question.... which was “Hey, so I’ve been sitting here already for a while, is there a reason no one informed me that the food menu was only online” I had been given a menu but only for drinks, and wasn’t told that there will be no food options on there. So because the employee seemed to frustrated to answer my question, HE offered to bring over the manager, which I didn’t think I needed. And the manager comes out and basically completely dismissed me and just tells me “she thought I knew”...... I had never been to this restaurant before, ever! So that wouldn’t be possible, but the manager just kept telling me “well I can just take your order” “do you want me to take your order?” “I’m just trying to take your order!”. Instead of just answering my question. It was all-around a terrible experience, didn’t even get a chance to try out the food because of the terrible service & management. Customer service is so important in these places, please do better! The managers name is Kym & the employees name is John.P.s the hostess “Shy”, was really the light of that whole experience! Shout out to you, for being so kind & helpful to me! 💝

Love, love, love this restaurant. Every time I come to Berkeley to visit my sister, this restaurant is our go to place. Great food, neat atmosphere, wonderful service. Lots of different menu choices...you cant go wrong with any of the selections. Consistently fantastic food!! Must try.

Sweet potato fries drizzled in honey with a hint of cinnamon?! Kudos to the chef on that one! Sounds weird but ya gotta try it. All of the food was very tasty including dessert. Eureka has a nice casual vibe, service was good and theyre open late👍🏼 Will return for sure.

A solid cheeseburger with good fries. A large airy dining area, we were able to be seated right away. Our friendly server was timely and on point without being intrusive. Now that the weather is better, its good that they have outdoor seating. The TVs over the bar, plus posted at other points would make it a great place to watch a game and check out the large range of bourbon and beer they have in the menu. The cocktails sound great, but since I was there in the middle of the day, Ill try some next time LOL

This place is terrific. Great burgers, Great beer. Simple and easy but very diverse. This is the real Berkeley where people from all backgrounds and all walks of life can enjoy the American pleasure of incredible beer and burgers in a welcoming environment. Everything was amazing. Must try!

If you’re a whiskey fan, you might wanna to try this place out. The old fashioned was pretty good. The food was great. The bison burger did not disappoint. Service was good, could have been better.

I love their spicy fried chicken sandwich, with a fried egg its perfection!! The staff there are always friendly and attentive. The quality of the food is always top notch. The sweet potato fries have just a hint of cinnamon making them a perfect side for any of their burgers or sandwiches, and for dipping try the firecracker aoili which is creamy with a nice kick. Eureka is my favorite local burger place!

The service is not great. They dont notify you if your waitress or waiter goes in break. It was confusing.

The happy hour drinks and snacks were perfect and the outdoor seating was nice. Not crowded and no wait early on a weeknight. Will definitely come back soon for happy hour!

Fabulous restaurant with a great staff. A little slow at times but the food made up for small lapses in the customer service. If your looking for a great place to eat in the Berkeley Area this is one to consider.

Pre-Covid, this was a regular place for a nice burger and beer, but guess I wont be going back anymore. Now they switched over to using an app to order at the table which does not work. We placed our order and the app confirmed it and then we waited. At least 30min later after seeing and hearing nothing, we tried to inquire about the order. The staff seemingly could not check the status and if it was placed or not and after 10 min of trying, we gave up and left. If you do go, order with a person, not their terrible app

Great food and even better service. I know it is simple but our server brought out appetizers first let us finish then brought out food, simple but so many places dont do that. Been twice now and never had anything disappointing at all.

They put a Wrong burger among my 3 burger take out order bag on 7/5 night. I couldnt like taste of its wrong vegi burger instead for my meat burger order then I had to dump it into trash bin. They looked call after but it was too late cause I missed the call while I was already driving on the free way to home.They called next day but no voice. Full cost charged.

Food was good, vibe was off.. Im used to a more in tuned bartender. But definitely try it out.

Their fries are one of the best in the East Bay. Ask for extra crispy! I also love their veggie burger, and you can make most of the burgers vegetarian.A great place to go, they have some great outdoor seating.

They have you order on a website that sucks and service staff were uninterested in helping us fix the problems. They messed up our orders multiple times and then brought us an incorrect check. Food was mediocre.

We went there with a large party after calling ahead to make sure they could accommodate us. We were sat down quickly and our order was taken just fine. Then we received 2 dishes out of 9 that we ordered.Then a server came back with dessert that we didnt order. And another server brought beverages that were not for our table. We found out that the 2 dishes were for a different table. When we explained that everyones food was messed up, manager got all upset and snippy. 3 and a half hours later, our dishes arrived. Noone ever came to offer refill on drinks in that time. Food was good, service sucked

Tucked away on a side street of Shattuck! Eureka is definitely one of the nicer restaurants in Berkeley. It is always busy and the ambiance is amazing. If you dont have a reservation you might have to wait for about 45 min so I suggest making a reservation. The seating by the booths is great! but you can always get a drink at the bar first. Their drinks are well made and the bartenders are sweet. I usually get one of the burgers and ask for it to be extra spicy! Their Bruschetta is great as well.Definitely, recommend this place to get a drink with friends or date night.

Ordered the 28 day aged angus medium and my friend got the eureka burger medium rare. My burger was cooked medium well not medium but it was tasty. Hers was cooked right. Fries tasted terrible due to the old grease they used so we both trashed the fries. Not exactly worth the money IMO, value I didn’t notice. Pickup order. Would have liked at least napkins in the bag .

Theyre on the more expensive end definitely worth going to and having a burger maybe a couple of drinks

Came for date night. Place looks very nice, and not much of a walk from the downtown Berkeley bart station. Service was ok. After we got our food, we were checked on once and that was it. I wanted to get another drink but nobody came by and when they finally did, I was over it. Drinks were delicious. I ordered the Holy Smokes(which has actual smoke) and the woman ordered the Young and in Love I think. For food, the woman ordered the cowboy burger. It had bacon and onion strings on it, and she said it tasted good. I had the jalapeno egg burger (I think thats the name!!). It was great. The fried egg, bacon, chipotle sauce, and jalapenos went well together. Overall Id go back to try the other burgers on the menu.

Nice open floor plan with good ambiance and cool vibes.Has sports playing on tv but not too intrusive. I can keep tab on lakers score without it being right in my face .Friendly staff , good service . Fantastic food which I thought was underpriced for quality of the ingredients and taste. :) Will be back to watch football.

I went there today for a grubhub delivery pick up. They seemed busy. The lady who works in front checked for the food if it was ready and told me its still in the kitchen and left . After few minutes she went back to check again and told me the same thing and left again. They were busy so i decided to wait but come on guys!!you are a restaurant, I know everything starts from kitchen,just tell how long i have to wait. I waited almost half an hour to get the food. When I got the food, one of the guy picked up a bag from their station which was sitting there for long time already, handed it to me telling my order is ready. It felt crazy to wait like a fool.

A burger/bar spot in downtown Berkeley that added a nice parklet and plexiglass dividers inside the restaurant for added safety. Even on busier nights food and service were both good. Great spot for nighttime restaurant/bar experience in Berkeley.

Nice ambient, good service, good burgers and cocktails. The only thing is that it seems like the french fries always come from the bottom of the barrel (See pics).

Theyre doing a great job! Contactless ordering that runs like a bar tab- you can just keep ordering stuff until youre done and you check out. HAPPY HOUR EVERY DAY from 4pm - 6pm. The food choices are wide ranging enough that everyone with us could eat there (2 omnivores, 1 dairy allergy, and a 7yo picky eater). The Napa Chicken sandwich was SO GOOD, as were the bourbon dusted wings. Good wings are hard, and they did it really well. Get the Brussel Sprouts with orange chili glaze - nom! The kids chicken tenders werent tender, but rather crispy, which one adult loved and the kid didnt (but ate after peeling off the coating). They even made a special lemonade for kiddo! 😀We sat outside, in a booth, on a really cold recent day and the experience was pleasant with the heat lamps they had. The service and staff was friendly and fast, and the owner/manager even came over to welcome us and let us know how everything worked. It was super helpful. They also automatically add 16% tip to your overall tab (we ended up spending $130 for four of us, which is on the value end i think since 3 adults had 2 rounds of happy hour drinks and apps, plus meals, tax and tip).Rating: Zero* gums under the table!*Scale is 0 - infinityOne star removed (suggestions for improvement) for not having hooks on the booths for jackets, helmets, bags, etc; and for the table being super slanted (like a 15° angle) due to being in the street. Put some blocks under the legs to level them off?

Decent food for a place that stays open late

We had a party of 5, with a 2yr old, 15yr old and 4 adults. They had something yummy for everyone! The menu seemed limited, but it really was ideal. Due to the pandemic, we had a QR code on our table in which to order, pay, and request from (all from our phone) and it actually worked out wonderfully! There was no hiccups, at all. The 16% tip was automatically added to the bill, and we added more (as rhe service was tremendous!) right from our phone. If we visit the area from East Coast, MA, again, we will definitely fo back!

We had the most amazing meal. We were running a little late and we rang to tell them and they were fine with it. Waiter was very nice and the food was just divine.

I always appreciate time spent at Eureka’s with loved ones. Great food, great atmosphere and fantastic location in downtown Berkeley! I have had many unique dishes here which were ALL enjoyed, I love the beyond meat and healthy vegetarian options.

Pretty darn good, service was lightning fast, due to their app ordering system, employees were very nice. Wish the menu was bigger though, the firecracker chicken sandwich was the bomb. Definitely will be eat there again.

I had the vegan beet burger with sweet potato fries. Way to much honey on the fries but good. Almost more of a dessert they were so sweet. Margarita was very good. Would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn’t so loud but what do you expect from a place that caters to the college crowd.

Food and customer service were great

Came here before seeing a show at the UC theatre around 8 on a Friday night. There was a bunch of people waiting for tables, but we were able to find a spot at the bar with no wait. Very cool atmosphere, a little bit crowded with people in the bar area, but still comfy. The young and in love cocktail I ordered was significantly delicious, I havent had a cocktail that tasty in a while and that alone would be enough for me to go back. Then our food came out and it was also quite delicious, I had the naked version (no bun, arugala instead) of a fig-something burger with bacon and goat cheese and it was really yummy. The bf got the chicken sandwich and that was also good. Overall great place.

Dont order too much food or drinks the owner will be worried that you dont have enough money to pay that was my experience here. The owner is constantly watching us and being creepy. Take your money elsewhere its not fun here. Ill never come back
