A place with rich history and mediocre coffee. This place an important role in Geopolitics of India as a lot of the political movements began from here. I remember visiting one of their several branches with my father three decades ago as he would share stories of the several intellectuals that used to frequent this place for conversations over coffee. The waiters here dressed up in their traditional uniform with the head gear will bring nostalgic memories of the bygone era. Unfortunately their food and service have not kept up with the changing times.
Old and nostalgic. You can still have mutton cutlet within 100 rs in church street. Unbelievable.
A simple place for some light snack and coffee. Earlier ,it was on MG road, but later shifted to this place.Thia is a direct descendant of the Albert Hall , Calcutta . another brother is the Indian Coffee House at Jadavpur, calcutta. ambience is the same everywhere.dnt expect much. Quick bites at affordable price...thats it.
Visited the legendary Indian coffee house.A word of caution, you need to have a very strong stomach if you are going to eat here.I agree the old vibe is there but the place is very unhygienic, there was some brown dirt on my fork.key tip:if you want to eat here don’t look into the kitchen 😂.Anyway moving on.We ordered the following1. Plain dosa.2. Scrambled eggs on toast.3. Veg cutlet.4. Cold coffee.5. Rose milk.1. The dosa was below average and had this old oil taste to it, which was quite off putting however the consistency was good. I give it a 3/10.2. The scrambled eggs were perfect, However my toast was soggy like a wet sponge.I give it a 4/10.3. The veg cutlet was good, have a good crunch to it and was not oily, just the way I like it, however it was accompanied by a thick tomato sauce which looked like Kissan jam and it tasted like jam too.I give it 5/10.4. The cold coffee was not good, it had some particles floating on top of it. I give it 3/10.5. The rose milk was honestly good, perfect amount of sweetness and was refreshing.I give it 7/10.What I liked about the place:1. It has an old vibe to it.2 some of the old/vintage signs on the wall although there are just a few. What I didn’t like:1. Place is very unhygienic.2. They don’t accept card or gpay as a mode of payment.3. Food is below average at least what i ordered.Would I visit here again ?As of now, no.If they clean up the place, especially the kitchen, I may reconsider.
You can get best food at best price and taste never changed .never miss the feeling of early 90s .very few places left
U can visit /not visit this place for following reasons -1. Coffee is ok but bread toast & dosa& idly r tasty.2. This is situated on church street road so u can experience nice view with nice coffee.3. U can remember ur school & college time ( school/college canteen type furniture & arrangements)4. Not too much hygiene.5. Accountent & service providers fight alot something so u can enjoy/not enjoy this show 😂6. Overall good place in terms of budget & breakfast.
Poor quality of food. Watery coffee, stale cutlet mix - both supposed to be the best for this place.Even after reporting the issue to the cashier, least bothered to even acknowledge and billed exorbitantly charged. Around ₹45+ charges.
One of the oldest restaurants but i discoverer very recently and its become one of my all time favourite breakfast spot.Egg omlette (single/double) is a must try here!!Jam sandwich tastes good too.
Pros- Fast service, affordable, locationCons - Ambience, menu options
Went for the nostalgia , after almost 10 years . Nothing has changed , coffee is still strong and sweat . Omelette still have less salt and the cutlets are crisp and yum ! . Hopefully they continue to survive and sustain these tough times to allow old school Bangaloreans a chance to go back in time !
The staff was super nice. The food couldve been better. The Kara Bath was horrendous to the tongue. The masala Dosa had a weird texture. Coffee is definitely not their specialty
Beware- you may need to visit the dentist after having a plate of masala dosa. I know its exaggerated a little bit but truthfully you really need teeth of a bear to have dosa here. Overall a bad experience, foods bad and better bring 2 books to read because its gonna take some time before the food arrives at the table. The restaurant has lost its charm. Sad.
I can never get tired of this place. One of the oldest spot for breakfast in the city located in heart of it. I.e. Kormangla. Love the dosas and coffee here. I have been visiting this place for over 5 years now. Parking is an issue given the area..service, waiters, ambience, staff all are very friendly and welcoming. One must try Mysore Masala Dosa, Veg cutlet, Paneer curry and coffee here among many other quality, delicious dishes. No prior reservation needed.. it is pocket-friendly as well. In covid times, place is maintaining best practices and guidelines.
Simple menu, no bull, good yet simple food and service at its best. Indian Coffee House is the one of the oldest chain of restaurants still run by co-operative society. You may visit this place for experiencing how old hotels look like, a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, a huge mirror and butlers who are so prompt in their service.
Nostalgic. 50+ years old and counting. Warm service and hot coffee ☕
This place has amazing coffee, veg cutlet, and masala dosa.
Nostalgic moments. Simple friendly staff.
Indian Coffee House is one of the iconic restaurants of India, having branches in all the major cities. Run as a cooperative by the employees, ICF has been serving great coffee, tea, breakfast and snacks for over 80 years now. This branch is located at Church Street, and offers a vintage decor. Waiters are in starched white with turbans on their head and a smile on their faces. Service is very quick and food is simple, tasty and economical. Apart from the staple idli vada and dosa, do try their cutlets, scrambled eggs and omelettes.
Would I need to tell you about one of the oldest joint for coffee in Bangalore? I hope not. If you are new here, please do try their filter coffee and there scramble egg toast. I did have the lime juice, the egg sandwich which did not impress me much. You can try their muscle others as well. The Ambiance is like the old Bangalore styled hotel with still the same benches and potraits on the wall. Service is quite slow and make sure you go on time to get table for yourself.
Its a nice place to have breakfast in the morning. The employees are very nice and the food is good too.
Typical local coffee house similar to any Indian Coffee House you will find all over the southI had the Tomato Mix Omelet, Mutton Cutlet & CoffeeNothing out the world, but I wasnt expecting it to be, laid back service, decent omelet with tomato chunks insideMutton cutlet was tasty but very little Mutton fillingCoffee was the typical ICH filter coffee NOT the Kaapii I love the mostIt was almost full of Sunday breakfast goers, ideal to come in groups, family etcSo if you are looking for some local, no frills breakfast & coffee do visit
Amazing coffee. Really in need of a deep clean
Poor service. The Waiter has spilt coffee on hand and didnt have the courtesy to apologise. Wouldnt even give a star.
Below average taste.. Absolutely not advisable...
One of the best places to have scrambled eggs and coffee, the old world charm and great staff add to the experience
If you are a person who likes to explore the famous old foods and restaurants, you should visit the Indian Coffee House. The filter coffee is really good. You get some varieties of egg dishes along with it. Some veg/non veg cutlets. Also some meal options. The waiters attire and the cafe interiors will take you back to 40’s era. The food here is very less priced.
It was located in MG Road before and now it is moved to Church Street. Its a legendary Restaurant. They have limited dishes but they are very good.

I just love scrambled egg here.. but coffee is very bad..
Nice place and good service not much professional
Indian coffee house☕A famous coffee house located at church street behind brik oven. coming to the ambience its old type and the staff with white uniform and a red cap.Indian coffee house restaurant chain is run by series of worker cooperative society. It has strong presence across India with nearly 400 coffee house and it started on 1957 in bangalore. Its famous for the coffee, masala dosa and sandwiches.I tried masala dosa it was crispy and very tasty, and i tried cutlet.I had been here along with friends and the service was quick.Truly it is a legendary place in namma bengaluru.Do visit this place and let us know the feedback and thoughts:)foodstopbengaluru ratings :Food :- 5/5Service :- 5/5Ambience :- 5/5For more recommendations In bangalore, you can follow our page @foodstopbengaluru on instagram/ Zomato.
ICH had its own style of taste tat is always approached to bangalorians, though it is the oldest cafe place in Bangalore. It is at its best.
Good old ambience still striving to co-exist in this new era...Not bad with their menu, taste and pricing compared to the other food joints in that locality
Has lost its old charm. Coffee tastes really bad.
Coffee there was OKAY. The furniture is old and it was neat enough to sit. The tables were clean as well. I wish the management could improve the interiors and maintain the hygeine of the kitchen. Coffee was below my expectations though. Milk was way too diluted than the decoction. It was too watery. But if you want a place to sit and have a coffee alone or with friends for a dime in that location, then this is the place you go to. I have not tried their other menu items yet.
Always the best for Vintage ambience lovers and the fatherly love by the hotel crew
Service not so good. Place is not maintained well. Loses original ambience. Coffee is ok.
Its as old as MG Road itself. One of the locals favourite. The signs of time are showing and still a local favourite. After it has shifted, same old charm isnt there much till you get the food in your mouth. I dont blame anyone if they dont get whats so much Bangalores aboriginasls talk of this place. Its a legend!
Old world charm. Nothing spectacular about the food or the ambience but has a strong emotional space in my heart.
No online payment still. Cash was inconvenience big time
A memorable image of what Bangalore once was. This is one of the oldest Coffee Houses in Bangalore and still maintains that vintage ambience with the waiters dressed in fancy vintage clothes, gives you an overall chill vibe to take a break from your busy modern Bamgalore life and visit the forgotten ghost of the past. (Im giving 3 stars because my coffee cup didnt look clean enough.)
I prefer this coffee house just because of scrambled egg. It was yummy 😋.
Best south indian filter coffee but maintenance is no so good when i visit 1 year before now coffee is still same quality but has to improve the cleaning in d coffee shop
Louziest place . Not clean n dirty staff
A very old brand. Good food. Decent price. Getting parking space for cars may be tricky during peak hours. Parking here will need you to buy parking time from the available parking meters.
LAID BACKWhat can I say. Being a regular at the Kollam Coffee House in Kerala, I was a big fan of the one on M.G. Road. But that Church Street has become what it is - This laid back Indian Coffee House is a nice place to rest amidst all the hullaballo on Church Street. The coffee is good . What more can I ask of an Indian Coffee House?
Nostalgic place for your veg/ mutton cutlets and filter coffee. Aesthetically pleasing for the old timers, and clean to an extent of being tidy. The waiters are extremely polite and hospitable.
They does not have fancy contemporary interiors, just a normal snack shop. You will get things like Masala dosa, Chapati, idli, vada, coffee, tea, toast, desi sandwiches, cutlet etc. Very economical considering the posh neighborhood. Hygiene is satisfactory. Overall a nice little shop reminding the past.
Great coffee and south Indian Tiffin items, prices are reasonable considering the posh shopping location where it is located.
I just go there for coffee. Maintenance is not that good. They must improve the quality of food
Best place to hangout with friends for some classical egg dishes and english breakfast and most authentic filter coffee,Best food to taste: scrambled egg with toast,Masala dosa, egg sandwich and coffee
Amazing food.Very economical.Admirable staff.Good location.
Condition is very poor and kitchen looks super unhygienic..I wonder how come government place be like this...after consuming so much tax from people they cant afford to refurbish it.I wont suggest anyone to visit there in such a crucial pandemic time.
My favorite place to go for a morning coffee. Scrambled egg is the best. Dont miss it. They make it the best. Rest are all ok.
Miss the mutton cutlets....best place for a laid back coffee and cutlet with old friends
Old age coffee house on mgroad
My grandfather tasted coffee and Cutlet at this same shop, then my dad, then myself, now my Son.One of the legendary Coffee bars at church Street.... Trust me I am visiting since 1994 and the taste remains the same....This shop is an identity for Namma Bengaluru
Just for a legendary place it’s good to visit! Otherwise they are still stuck in the early eighties!! Bad decor, not accepting various forms of payments just stuck on cash!!
A really very nice place to visit. The food is really good . I love the coffee . This is really a good place to visit
Not just of Bangalores but Coffee House has been one of the oldest coffee and snacks restaurant in India. It is there probably in every major city. They serve really tasty food for a very very reasonable price.A matter of concern is that you do not see many young faces serving you. If they usually recruit elderly candidates then it is fine. Otherwise I fear this, a kind of heritage, will be closed for and to the customers. The footfall is staggering. The demographic is versatile for the way the items are priced. And I personally like the smiling gesture to greet the customers. The only con I see is in the number of items served here. If they can just add some more items, it might be beneficial for all. But, I would like everyone to go and enjoy this and this kind of lovely places all around the country. Give others a break and this one a try.
