One of the authentic South Indian cuisine serving restaurants in Bengaluru. Food is really awesome. This not a fancy restaurant and also, you might have to share your table with some else because this purely 90’s based restaurant and keeping it originality as it is. Only thing which disappoints is its waiting time on weekends. That also disappears in thin air when have your food first bite.

I arrived at this place around 5pm. It is located inside the flower market On the entrance you have a person taking down your name to call out once your number is up. Had to wait close to 20mins which is pretty decent considering it was a Saturday. Waiting area has few benches which is very helpful. I ordered for the Masala Dosa, Kesari Bath and Filter coffee. The dosa is served first and then the servers come in and pour the chutney on the plate. I liked the Kesari bath, the portion served was also adequate. The filter coffee was just perfect as it was strong and not too sweet. Overall, if you want some hot tasty food at an affordable price this is the place for you.

One of the best Dosa in Bangalore without any doubts. Theres no limit to how many times I can have it without getting bored. Perfectly crispy outside and soft inside. A must visit place with the perfect old Bangalore charm. We visited this place early morning for breakfast, they take down your name and have to wait for atleast 20-30 mins before you get a seat. We ordered Dose, mendu vada, kesari bhath which were just amazing ! The filter coffee was just perfection as it is made in a traditional way in a brass utensil. Dose will be served together for everyone in the room. The waiters wear traditional outfit and dont wear footwear whole serving which is a traditional way and it feels like you have come back in time. There are hand sketches of all the icons of the south states on the walls which is quite an attraction. The traditional terracotta tile high ceiling had my heart and I was watching it all the time. A must visit place for breakfast !

The restaurant does have an old and traditional charm. The wait can be between 30 minutes to an hour on weekends. Better to visit in the early opening hours if you want to avoid the rush. The seating is old school and the overall ambience takes you back in time. The disappointing part is the food here. Idly is ok, youd get better ones at Taaza thindi. Poori was bad. Masala dosa was above average, but I found the CTR dosa better. Overall, I didnt find the wait worth it here. My verdict is the place of overhyped.

Vidyarthi Bhavan is the doyen of all eateries in Bengaluru. The ambience itself is enough to make the presence awesome. The fragrance of coffee spills over the whole place. Dose and vade are the crispiest in Bengaluru, idli the smoothest and chatni the tastiest. Also try all items one plate so that u will get the taste of all. Anytime you go, u have to wait for minimum 30 mins to get in as there will be huge rush, so u get ur name written to a person sitting outside and roam around the Gandhi bazar Street and get the fragrance of fresh flowers.Pro Tip: Visit during mornings, as items will be available only till stock last. So usually during evenings, one or the other will be exhausted.

Vidyarthi Bhavan (Kannada: Vidyārthi Bhavana; lit. Student House) is a vegetarian tiffin restaurant in Gandhi Bazaar, Basavanagudi, South Bangalore. Well.. The food is almost average or maybe a little above average, but there are these small things, like the staff would be in hurry to send you away as crowd gathers 😅, when asked if they will take the order or self service(being the first time we went and did not see many people inside being served) the waiter told you have just come(which I took with a positive attitude that they dont mind if we take time to order) but as soon as we were served the order and not even half dosa was done the waiter came and stood near us.. Which I felt was not required, was looking forward to have idli vada and chow chow bath but had only masala dosa and coffee as this persons attitude was not the best atleast for starting a day from a Hyped place in Bangalore, they do not give Sambhar with dosa but when asked i was charged additional for sambhar which was weird, Felt take away was way better option. If you get a patient server, enjoy the food. #bonapetite #bangalore #breakfast #food( FYI : I never give a negative review or comment untill unless there is something very wrong after ignoring few things)

Vidyarthi Bhavan is an iconic place and VB dosa is an iconic dish of namma bengaluru. This place has a history of 70+ years, which is even before our independence. Great legends of karnataka have visited this place. They have limited menu. Most selling dish is dosa and in which 3 varieties: Plain, masale and saagu masale. Along with these, they serve poori, khara bath, kesari bath, Idli and vade. Coffee and Tea is also served. All these dishes are immensely top notch to savor. Saagu masale is something distinct as well as their signature dish. Fact is that, saagu masale is available for limited time every day. Sunday till 9am and rest of the days till 10am.Though they are open by noon 2pm again, they dont serve, idly, saagu masale and poori. By noon the limited menu shrinks again. One thing you will notice in this hotel, the waiters carrying no. of dosa plates in one hand. I bet you, no where else in this world any hotel serves in this unique way. Waiters are trained to carry and balance the no. of plates at one go. Though it looks easy for us, but actually its not. As every new waiter who joins VB, are trained on this specific skill. This is again VBs signature way of serving customers.Staffs are so generous. The crowd will be overflowing, but still they manage with smile on their face. This hotel gives you nostalgia feeling, because interior is not modernized instead, it is still wooden tiles roofing (Henchu). They have placed photographs of all our Karnataka artists, which gives you goosebumps. No online booking, you need to visit the place and the person who sits outside to make a note of entries, you need to let him know your name and no. of people. As its, first come first serve basis. So, make sure you an early bird to taste these great food in such a great place.Note: Due to COVID-19, if you feel safe kindly visit. I am not entirely sure why I didnt visit the place sooner. Maybe the distance and the huge crowds with long waiting time were a deterrent.Anyways , I visited the place once the lockdown got over. They did the temperature check and hand sanitization. The staff was wearing masks and gloves. There was decent crowd for a normal outlet, but then this is not any normal place.  We go for masala dosa, idli vada , kesari bhath and filter coffee.Dosa is fantastic, although it is dripped in oil. But the taste is next level and there is a nice sponginess. The alu masala inside is also tasty.  Idli vada comes dipped in sambhar and gets over in a jiffy. Kesari bhath is mildly sweet with some raisins in itThe coffee is strong and perfect to end the meal. My conclusion is nothing different and I dont have anything negative to say here. Its an iconic place. Must visit. Folks who havent gone yet can go now taking advantage of the lesser crowd and enjoy themselves.
