OMG.. worst chips I ever seen in my life, how can shops be allowed to serve chips as vile as these, all hard and black Marks, and very hard to bite? I believe these are oven baked then fried. This is not a fish and chip shop to visit, unless your desperate or drunk. Sorry to sound harsh but these chips should not be served like this. These should be freshly cut and cooked chips not like left overs from the day before, honestly I had to throw these away as put me of buying chips again .The staff look pretty scary, and sadly so does the food. I wish I had checked their reviews before I purchased, but never again its called seafood but they should call it Sickfood these were really disgusting and truthfully it made me vomit, sorry if that offends people but look this is not the way to cook and certainly not the way to serve a customer. Please look at my photos and see for yourself.I am here to leave honest reviews, the Fishcake was all fallen apart but too but was the only thing edible.
Ranked among the worst chip shop Ive been to. They were swimming in grease, they had the consistency of stale leftovers from yesterday. First visit to Bath in about 10 years and I had to stumble on this place.
Came to this delightful fish bar hungry. Ordered the traditional fish and chips with mushy peas lunchtime special for a £10 each. B💥om! I was in heaven the batter was fresh and tasty with that crunch youd expect from such an amazing childhood dish. It took me right back to my childhood days. The lady behind the counter was ever so nice bringing us to a table and making us feel at home. Young man behind the counter was a class act my partner even said he sounded like the guy on hot fuzz. He was a legend great customer service skills and both him and the lovely lady Best in Class. You were friendly, the food came out piping hot and we were never without a drink on the table. Excellent. Recommend you to the world. Hope your boss reads this and gives you both a pay rise. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Thanking you for making us feel welcomed in your amazing fish bar.
Stumbled across this place while getting ice cream next door, and the chips were an absolute delight! Having read other reviews I think they have changed how they make them, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, absolute perfection!
Had the Cod and Chips last night. Excellent service, excellent piece of fish, lovely crispy batter. Very hot day but the staff were super friendly and very helpful. Would definitely go back.
Good quality food at a reasonable price, options are a slightly lacking compared to other restaurants offering a similar cuisine. Some items were also sold out during our visit, although this was not made clear. Great location, in the centre of Bath
The chips were nice, fish was quite poor for what we paid! Overall the service was slow and very poor. It was also very overpriced, one small cod and chips, chips, curry sauce and 2 cans for £22. I would definitely not be recommending or revisiting!
Super kind and friendly staff. Delicious battered cod and home made chips.
Lovely fish and chips, cooked to order. Staff very friendly.
Lovely chips and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommend!
Very nice chips, delicious and cooked well. Unfortunately, prices slightly on the expensive side.
The staff here in Bath England are the nicest people, friendly and attentive. I vacationed with my mother and we had to have the fish and chips 3 times in one week . The food was superb. We didnt want the mushy peas at first but they go very well with the cod, malt vinegar and tartar sauce. I will return in 2020.
Delicious fish and chips . Cooked to order batter light and crispy .
Ordered through uber....mistake but called the restaurant who just hung up several times.Food arrived cold and stale. Wont order from them again
Curry sauce is tomato soup. Fish is flavourless. Batter is not it. Very bad.
Lovely. Reasonable price, polite staff and plenty of nice food per serving so all good
Had the ten pound special. Cod, chips, mushy peas, tea and bread and butter. Great value for a sit down meal in the middle of Bath. Whats not to like? Also very friendly service.
Tasty! Professional staff.
Great restaurant. Id recommend getting their service menu and sitting down in the restaurant. Friendly service and tasty, filling food
Great friendly service. Fab, crispy fish and chips not greasy at all. Ill definitely be back
We have been going to this fish and chip shop for years,It has always been excellent.
Fabulous fish and chips, went 20 mins before closing so food cooked fresh for us. We took it back to our hotel, as the only criticism is how much more expensive it is to eat in, practically double. But would highly recommend to take away.
Know this nice little place from my tour guide when I was visiting Bath. One could be shared for 2 (or even 3). The chips are enormous, and the fishes are so HUGE, youll got 2 pcs of fishes in one portion.Unfortunately, the serving time is very slow, I should wait about 30 mins for my order to come out. I think its because theres only 1 waiter (and I guess hes the one who prepare your dish too). I wont recommend this place if youre in a rush
Delicious fish and chips, friendly staff and reasonable prices.
Came over for a short stay in bath. Noticed a chip shop in front of my hotel. I thought Ill order some fish and chips. But that closed earlier than expected. So still in the mood for fish and chips I found seafoods.Nice cod, chips could have been better. However still decent. FYI the chip shop that closed early was bath fish and chips.
Lovely little place, friendly welcoming homely staff. Great food, they give you a good platefull, really enjoyed it
Looks great but pretty sure I didnt visit.
Food was okay .
Award winning ... The fish & chips were not cheap... the service was iffy.... listening to odd stories... When I recieved my food it had no salt or vinegar as requested... it was just okay
Lovely little stop off, we sat downstairs. It got very busy and it was difficult to move around, the tables were a little tacky to touch. However, the food was lovely! and the staff were friendly!
Wonderful chips!! 😜
Proper chips thank God. Not this triple cooked variety that seems to be in every restaurant these days. The question is how do you cook a chip three times? The haddock was very well prepared light batter and the choice of skin on or off was available. Couldnt fault it. We used the street-level but there is a restaurant below. I think it must be 30 years since I last visited with my family but will certainly make up for lost time.
Loved this place! Good food and the staff was lovely, especially the young woman that seemed to be in charge. Well definitely come here again next time were in Bath.
Fancied sitting inside for some fish and chips for 2 with curry sauce and 2 cans of pop was told it was £29, cough how much £29, okay I thought well Im sat inside and it will be on a nice plate. Was chucked a plate of fish and chips nothing special for the excessive price. Wont be visiting again at those rip off prices better of having a decent meal in the pub.
Awful! Served my daughter out of date apple juice, my food was lukewarm (thats being generous) and the grease coming off the cod bites soaked three napkins. Staff argued and made up lies when we asked for the cost of my cold, barely eaten meal deducted! And took between 45/30 mins to get our food and it wasnt busy!!! Dont waste your time. Sad because it was excellent when we went in the summer.
Not a great experience. Long wait for our food. General confusion over a simple order. Chips were undercooked and generally awful. Sausage was so small I thought it was a chip. Not what I expected from the one of the (self?!) proclaimed best chip shops in the world.
The fish and chips was good, curry sauce was excellent. Service was a little haphazard & at times tense. A recipe of a couple new staff, popular venue with queues proved not to be a great atmosphere to eat in.
This is the first time that i try fish and chips. Service was excellent. Staff members were aware of what they serve and knew how to explain to me the difference between each fish and recommended a very nice cod. Food is delicious. Highly recommended
This is an award winning take-away and restaurant. The staff are friendly and fun, the food is cheap and tastes great. Enjoy it whether youre after a quick lunch or sit down and enjoy a meal out with family or friends.
Very friendly staff and great food. Will definitely be back, next time were in Bath.
Food was nice but the lady in charge is awfully RUDE!! She has no customer service experience and no common courtesy! I will not be returning! I did mention to her that maybe she needs training as please and thank yous are the basics. Your mother clearly failed in raising you!!
Staff were friendly and helpful. I had cod and chips and fried prawn starter both were very nice and tasty, the only downside being the price for the fish and chips which was nearly double compared to other places Ive been. This was irrelevant because the food was worth it and as a result I would go back there if I am in the area.
This is not a award winning place. The food was too grass and, the fries were very soft and not well cook. My chicken tasted as fish because probably they use the same oil. And my partner fish was literally releasing oil.
Wonderful basic fish and chips with a few twists. Funny polite efficient staf. 5 stars all around.
2 stars for the hot, freshly cooked and generous portion of fish and chips (had the large cod - and glad it was generous for the pretty generous price - £13.50)But will sadly not be rushing back thanks to the staff and just all round cold atmosphere of the place. Just a tip for the owner/ management - you’re one of the only proper chippies in central Bath, you should be rammed on a weekend (we were the only people in there) - perhaps train your staff a bit better to not be so militant and strange? (We wanted to add one battered sausage as an extra to our meal order.. but that was apparently completely impossible - we would have had to order a minimum of TWO sausages, with chips, on top of our original meals, no way round it). Didn’t push it, he was just doing his job. But customer service is so important guys, this place could be so so much better.
Lovely fish and chips
Went here yesterday for some nice chip shop food only to be thoroughly disappointed. They dont sell burgers, (we went for sausage instead). So sat down, waiter came pretty quickly, took our food and drink orders and went away. 2 minute later some customers walked out. About 10 minutes later some more customers came for some food to take away. The staff messed this order up and told them they would make some more, but were told they cant sit and wait inside because its for customers who pay to eat in. after about 5 more minutes we hear staff asking how long the rest of our food is going to take as the chips are all now cold. At this point we were still waiting for even the drinks. We left!Grumpy staff, slow service, and expensive as well.
Just poor experience overall. Was a regular customer until recently. Always understaffed had been going to this chip shop for convenience but not again. The service is slow because they refuse to hire another member of staff. Then my chips arrived before my friend was able to order. As a result I tried to eat some chips but was told I was not allowed because I had ordered take out even though I do recollect even being asked. When asked why I cant eat when the entire place was empty minus the ever growing que. I was greeted with an extremely hostile no no. Other customers complaining whilst I was waitingAverage food and just a poor customer service attitude. Would not recommend.
Chips were reasonable but could have been better but quick service with half smile.
Exelent portion sizes, value for money, friendly, love this place,i cant believe all these bad reviews i have read,i only have one moan about this chippy, and thats just that they close at 9pm,far to early, all these reviews saying rude staff, unhelpfull whatever,Vicky(manager i think)is the.most helpful, kind, honest person i have ever known in this chippy!always happy to explain if a.question is asked or needed to.describe/explain something.100% the best chippy around, wont find one anywhere else in Bath like this.well done Seafoods
Did not like the place one bit. Too expensive for what you get. The cod was too dry and crusty. I also had to sit outside and eat it in the rain, because the seats inside are for restaurant diners or pays for the privilage, ha! Yet, I was the only one there. I rather starve than go back there!
Food was ok, fish and chips fine, prepackaged tartar sauce not so much. Drinks seemed a bit overpriced for what they were. Service was a bit all over the place, people that arrived after us got food before us, guy that took our order never reappeared, they gave us twice the sides because nobody knew what was going on.
Lovely fish and chips if I ever visit Bath again will go there to eat
Lovely grub and excellent chips. Its dearer than Im comfortable with, but terribly convenient as its in the heart of Bath and the rent and rates must be collosal. (And to be fair, its no more than expensive than any other decent fish n chippy). So saying, food cooked to order and brought out quickly and the chips were spot on - delightful.
Chips were great as were the staff however the batter wasnt very nice.
Food and portions were great. The service was a little lacking.
We tried to look for positives. We ignored the low star rating as the place was only 2 mins walk from where we are staying. Weve had better fish and chips from back street chippies at a fraction of the price. Tiny portions, extortionate prices and excessively greasy batter on the cod. Wish wed walked a bit further afield.
Top class fish and chips whether you eat in or takeaway.
Lovely food and lovely owner
Fantastic pea fritters and good quality chips! Really nice atmosphere to sit in the restaurant. For the quality and the fact its in Bath it was really reasonably priced too. Highly recommend.
Its an extremely good fish and chips shop which has also the virtue of not being too expensive. if you want either gravy or peas, you need to pay extra though. They also have different vegetarian options and brit classics such as buttered sausage or toffee.
Simply foul. Could have a Viz Cartoon dedicated to the place.1. Dirty. Odor of stale grease fills the air. A film of grease covers surfaces.2. Milk in tea was sour. (Im not kidding.)3. The tartare sauce was discolored from sitting out.4. The chips were heated up from the day before.5. The fish had a nauseating oily pong-tang.6. The counter-gentleman needed a good wash.
Such a shame to find this place has gone downhill. It used to be excellent. Served dry old chips and grey mushy peas and a particularly small cod passed as medium. The woman cooking may have replaced the guys that were here before or maybe at 4pm the chips are old. Disappointing.
Not being local to bath, I googled the chip shops, saw this one, checked out their website and headed off. Their website was the best bit of the entire experience, because when I got there I had to wait ages to order even though there was only one person in the queue in front of me. The chef was having a mini diva melt down in the kitchen area, the extra salt and vinegar that I asked for I didnt get. The gravy was extremely thick and I like it thick, but it had pretty much set and the chips were just an entire tray of the dried out crispy ones, which normally you like a few of, but not all like that. Overall bad service and bad food....... on the plus side, Im not from Bath and so itll be very easy never to go back there.
Extremely tasty food. Massive portionsWould highly recommend
Really good fish and chips. Good size portions.
Loved it! Fast and helpful service, good atmosphere and to be honest, that was one of the best fish Ive had.
Wanted to try those famous fish&chips, waited while to be served but apparently needed to wait by the counter and make an order, then waited there until they realised that they got customers...anyway food quality was rubbish, sooo greasy and I dont think that part was freshly made...Prices ridiculous, customer service well better than nothing...No wonder there was no people around..
Slow service,VERY expensive,£12.50 fish and and chips(medium),£1.80 for a small not full cup of tea,5 Customers left after seeing prices,2 lots of Customers complained.Only reason We stayed was We were on a day trip and had to wait hour and half for coach(and Wetherspoons was packed),don,t deserve custom.
Freshly prepared and worth waiting for
The classic establishment that makes money due to location so doesnt have to go above and beyond to please customers. If youre too bothered to walk any further, this place will do but dont expect anything amazing.
Not great. Slow service, bit pricey and food not brilliant.
Lovely place to eat food great staff very friendly
Very expensive, small portions, sub standard food topped off with unfriendly staff. I would have given no stars if it was an option. Dont waste your time and money.
The best fish and chips at a great price!
I give two stars because the food was ok a bit pricey but ok. But the staff leave a lot to be desired , we were asked when we entered the premises at 9.30 if we would like to eat in or takeaway, we said eat in only to be told you cant so I struggled to understand why we were made such an offer quite funny really,. The staff was at best able to cook fish and chips but they were quite honestly the most miserable pair of staff I have encountered in quite a while , is it really to much of an effort to say thank you and offer a forced smile😁😁😁😁. Give this place a wide birth .
Had food here on the 16th of September the service was terrible the restaurant was a mess with dirty plates stacked everywhere. The lady in charge was rude and grumpy to customers and the front of house gentleman needed constant reminders of missing ordered items, this said the two staff spent most of the time bickering with each other.During our time waiting for food to arrive we realised the cooking area was filthy.Think Bath council need to look long and hard at this business.
Do not eat at this place the staff are very rude and very scruffy looking! We all had fish n chips and within a hour or 2 we was all ill. Definitely got food poison from this place.!!!Do not enter you have been warned!!!!
Bad experience. The food is served without any sauces. The taste is less than normal. When I asked for lemon, the guy gave me one small slice. When I asked for another, he didnt like it. The chef is unfriendly. Not recommended at all.
By far the worst fish & chips Ive had for a long time. I dont think the chips were even burnt, perhaps just the fact that the oil was very old turned them into a soggy brown mess! Dont waste your money. Used to be very good 15 years ago - pity.
The food is pretty good and they serve large portions. As a tourist, this is just what I expected a fish and chips place to be. The prices are about £7 - £10 per meal, excluding drink. We had to wait longer than I am used to, but that can be expected during lunchtime.
The most expensive fish and chip prices I think Ive seen. The rudest staff Ive had. Excellent food though.
Waited over half an hour for a cod and chips to share. Dull basement room. No music. Basic wooden furniture. Two other diners. One more arrived just before we left. Young chap serving had no idea what he was doing. Menu to eat in a lot more expensive than the take away one.!! When we went to pay the kiddie on the till was blunt and rude. We had no table number! And the boy downstairs sent us up to pay with no slip or chitty or details. There was an mass of people stood infront of the pay area. We tried several times to pay. We were just ignored. We had to excuse the push in front of some one method. And finally got the attention of the young rude idiot. He eventually went and found our table details from the kid downstairs and we were able to pay. Total lack of training!! This is such a busy little take away the restaurant side ruined. We will not eat in again. Just take away. The food was really good. The fish batter light and crisp. The chips hot and perfectly cooked. The tartar sauce was from a tub, but was a good quality, creamy and tasty.
Been in once before, kept waiting a while and when I got the fish and chips Id ordered they were a little bit... Stale tasting.Thought it might have been a bad one off. This time I ordered chips and took my seat. It took 20 minutes for chips and curry sauce then the women tried to throw me out because apparently I hadnt made it clear that I wanted to eat in. No one had asked so I was kind of surprised to be spoken too so rudely and be accused of lying. Anyway I asked for my money back and left, so I dont know if the food was any better than before.
Awesome chips. 10/10 would clog arteries again
An award-winning place in Bath for fish and chips. But still an average only when comparing to the best fish and chips around the country.
Fantastic place, great meal, & service.! √:)
Bit greasy but nice serving of fish.
Nice fish and chips. One of the best on Bath
Terrible Service. Was left not knowing where or how to order. Staff didnt seem too bothered about loosing our custom. We walked out rather than risk staying and regret it later.
Used to be a good place to get chips but the last few times Ive been the chips have been dry, hard and inedible. I think they need to stop selling stale old chips and make a fresh batch more often.
Food was pretty nice :)
Simple fish and chips cooked great
