Cool, dark and funky place in the centre of Glasgow serving fried chicken and cocktails. Lots of neon lights give the place a nice vibe. Went for the fried Buffalo burger which had plenty of hot sauce on and the loaded fries. The fries came with guacamole, jalapeños and pieces of grilled chicken. The food was a little bland.
I went to this place as I had tried a similar place previously, so thought Id check it out to compare. I wasnt impressed. At first when you walk in it looks quite Cool & quirky, however it felt like they had run out of money to finish it off. We were sat above the stairs in a dark corner with standard metal seats & small table. Whilst the rest of the restaurant had lovely booths & funky bar tables & chairs. Staff didnt appear overly enthusiastic. I had to send back the chips we ordered because they were cold, not even Luke warm, but cold. The rest of the food was okay wasnt roasting hot, just warm. We finished our dinner & were not even offered dessert. booked the table for 2 hours as we were planning on staying for a couple cocktails after, but ended up leaving, after dinner. This place seems to make most of there money from takeaways, judging by the amount of carryout bags I saw taken up from the kitchen.I dont think I would go back.
Really enjoyed the cocktails and atmosphere of the restaurant. The interior is decorated beautifully and the music choices were great - very chilled out vibes. The chicken strips were hand fried and delicious, but my fries were stale. My boyfriend had the Korean BBQ burger which he highly rated, and his sweet potato fries were fresh... lucky! The service (although friendly) became less attentive as the night went on, however, and I feel it was all a little overpriced for the quality.
Food is so flavourful,i recommend to everyone, there cocktails are delicious and prices are spot on for the quality throughout!!
Bit of nightmare getting food delivered, I know this is partly uber eats problem as 3 of there drivers couldnt find the place on lancfield street. The main restaurant on Nelson Mandela place had no number for the place either so we had to drive down to pick it up ourselves, The app had it assigned to a driver for almost an hour when we picked it up they assured us it had only been sitting out 10 minutes............food cold, obviously been sitting a lot longer.
Absolutely shocking, waiting over 1.5 hours for our meal and when it finally came, it was stone cold.. so disappointed.. was promised a voucher so we could try again another time but that never arrived..
Popped in here for cocktails and they were delicious. Staff were lovely and really friendly. Great atmosphere. Would definitely go back.
We’ve visited here twice in a week, so that’s a good sign. Food is nice, obviously cooked fresh and the portion sizes are decent. The waffles are fluffy and light, perfectly done. The chicken is pretty decent and the mac cheese is super tasty (I tried the classic and the loaded - recommend both). There’s an extensive drinks menu, which is all reasonably priced. I like that they cater to non-drinkers too.Staff were friendly and attentive - no issues there.4 stars because I saw a waitress drop a knife on the floor...and then put it back in the drawer - eek.Re-visit in Jan 2020:The food is still decent - have been a couple of times since my first review and the mac cheese is still pretty good.On a busy the Saturday night, the fries were soggy and underdone but the rest of our meals were good. The chicken tenders are always a good option.Service was relatively slow for a Saturday night but not so much so that it detracts from the overall experience.£164 for 5 of us to have a couple of options from the menu plus 2-3 cocktails/pints - not bad!
First time going with my partner and a friend. We were seated outside and went to go inside to order only to be told we would be seen to when they had a chance. When someone finally came out we were then told that table service outside wasnt happening and when trying to ask a question the waiter walked away not offering us a chance to sit inside or offer more information on what to do next. He was very rude and disinterested in helping or serving us. Bad first impression so we up and left.
Prices are absurd. The food was trash. 6 TINY vegan chicken tenders that taste like moist cardboard for 10.85 quid. Unreal. We also ordered burgers. It was so soggy, I thought it was burger soup. If you gave these to a man dying of hunger, he would still be dying of hunger. The only thing that arrived even barely warm was the coke.
Staff were helpful and accommodated my daughter Amys birthday cake and brought it out at end of the meal..... food and cocktails and service was good ....
Food is nice and the cocktails are amazing. Not the cheapest but quality ingredients are used.
I expected so much better. Firstly I seriously applaud any place that has more than 1 vegan option available. However my order was not good, the vegan Mac n cheese was super bland and cold, it tasted like the old super market branded vegan cheeses youd get. Which is incredibly disappointing as Ive had lovely vegan Mac n cheeses in so many restaurants now its a shame this one didnt cut it. The Vegan Korean burger was a mess and the bun fell apart very quickly as the bun wasnt properly toasted and the fillings were too much and too wet. Which is such a shame as it looks amazing and sounded super promising. The apple pie was lazy and tasted shop bought. The custard was the alpro vanilla one, which again is super lazy. I honestly had such high hopes for this place and I think its such a shame that the cooking isnt as ambitious as the menu makes it look. Would I return again? Perhaps to try the waffles but I highly doubt it.
Ordered chicken and wafflesx2 and two cakes the cakes were nice sadly had to reorder the chicken and wafflesx2 because they didnt come first time and when when they did got two bits of chicken and four bits of waffles for £13 each one absolutely not worth the price for the chicken and waffles dont recommend it at all save your money the cakes were worth the price least thats something
I have been an absolute fan of absurd bird since I arrived to Glasgow, the food was incredible and the vegan options were amazing. However, for the past couple of months the food quality and service have gone down massively. Each time that we ordered food either was something missing or the flavours were incredibly bland, salty or tased as old oil. It is quite sad as for my partner and I, we ate there once every month but now we really doubt we will ever order anything from here as the prices do not match the quality of the food by far.
Their vegan fried chicken burgers are to die for! However, their garlic rub fries are far too salty... I recommend just going for the regular fries.
Food was brilliant, it was quiet when we were there but service was a bit slow, wait staff standing on phones talking
Great staff and good delicious. Young and funky. Cant wait to go back 😊
Ordered a burger from just eat and got food poison from the meat, tried to complain to both restaurant and just eat but not heard back. Extremely not happy and will not be back. Would not recommend this restaurant unless you want to be violently sick.
Fantastic Mac n cheese. Great food.
Average to good food, atmosphere was like an American diner with loud music. We went for the chicken wing bucket with a choice of different flavours (bbq, Southern fried buttermilk, lemon and garlic etc). Impressive choice with burgers and other items on the menu, their bar / cocktail section appeared to be popular.Chicken wings were a tad under cooked, what do I mean by that well, the chicken didnt just melt as you cut/bit into it, a few blood clots and veins were still a little raw when cutting meat from near the bone.Would I go back, probably not I felt let down by the quality and slightly over priced, however staff were really friendly and accommodating, Sorry Absurd Burd.
Never had a bad meal from Absurd bird. And thats one of the reasons why I keep going back. Best wings and mac N cheese in Glasgow.
Honestly, the friendliness of the staff, to the amazing food, cleanliness, efficiency, would highly recommend to anyone looking for chicken burgers etc etc. 😋
Quirky place with cool crazy decor. Like 90% on the menu is chicken. The first time i went I had a waffle slider with chicken, blue cheese and bacon, I really liked it but it doesnt seem to be on the menu anymore. On my 2nd visit I had a pizzaiolo mac and cheese, the toppings were very tasty. Sweet potato fries and onion rings are super delicious!
Cocktails and staff good food wasnt as great from my last visit food was cold chips were good thou
Good food, good atmos.
Great food, staff and music
Great food and amazing service. Staff are so friendly and helpful
Major letdown...food arrived very promptly, however it was luke warm/borderline cold...this, obviously, took away all the pleasure!! Disappointed!
Food is amazing, I ordered the mac n cheese and it was phenomenal, I got a mai tai to go along side and it was really strong which I like in drinks, cant wait to go again
Friendly staff if you like chicken there is no better simply the best
Fantastic staff, fantastic food, fantastic price, fantastic experience.
Waited one hour for food even though it was not buys. The manager was rude but the wait staff was friendly. Asked the manager for a booth as Im pregnant and chairs were not comfortable, said there wasnt any then a couple came along and he gave them one. Fries were decent burgers are dependant on taste but I would recommend the buffalo burger.
3stars because my husband enjoyed his food. I get that its a chicken place and that they welcome veggies and vegans too, but I was seriously disappointed on the quorn fillet served on a brioche bun. I expected better. Waste of money. Fries were frozen, not homemade. Veggies and vegans avoid!
Absurd Bird was a fantastic experience after a long day in the sun. They have a really chilled out country vibe with clean and simple american style decor. The food was delicious and well presented with very generous portions. I was almost defeated by this cheesy chicken waffle meal! Would be very keen to go back and try some more dishes on the menu in this tucked away gem!
Great wings but ran out of beer!
This has to be one of the best restaurants in Glasgow City Centre. I never realised how good fried chicken can really be until I tried here. Their cocktails are so good, in particular their Rum Chicken cocktail and their Old Fashioned. Their dipping sauces are also so good, be sure to try the peanut butter dressing!
Absurd Bird cancelled my order so late that I ended up eating coleslaw and chips for dinner after an 11 hour shift. It would have been a 10 hour shift but I extended my shift until 11pm instead of 10pm to collect my food. On my break at 9.30pm I actually checked on my order and it was still on for collection. My issue isnt the cancelled order, its the fact it was cancelled so late on in the evening and I couldnt get food from anywhere else at 11pm on a Saturday night. If I cant cancel the order within 2 hours of collection, yous shouldnae be allowed either.
If you are looking for chewy cold chicken with cold waffle. That is the place 🤮
Ordered vegan Korean BBQ burger- portion was incredibly big, very tasty. Ive got a really nice note from the staff which was surprising. I would totally recommend and 100% will be back really soon.
Ordered through Uber Eats and was sent the wrong burger by mistake. However, Michelle did a fantastic job at getting my actual order sent out to me and was very apologetic. Will be ordering from here again for sure! Burgers are amazing!
Great little place with good staff. Especially Colin the waiter who makes you feel welcome.
We went to get lunch here and walked straight back out after witnessing the humiliating way the guy at reception treated a poor Just Eat delivery person who was trying to pick up an order. Disdain and contempt dont do justice to how he was speaking to him just for trying to do his job. This place will never get a penny from us.
1st class service and food very cheap aswell.
The food here is so good!!! My favourite fried chicken place. Great burgers, fries and mac n cheese
The best place for wings! On Wednesday’s there would be a pub quiz and all you can eat wings, and honestly I will always keep going back.
We spent a very pleasant few hours in the AB one Sunday afternoon during this year’s C2C Festival. We started with some excellent cocktails and progressed from there!Live music fuelled both our thirst and our appetites and we moved onto the American orientated menu. Food was tasty and fulsome and precisely what we anticipated; uncomplicated and delicious.Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. We’ll most certainly be back!
Huge portions, fantastic quality and great service. Easily one of the best places for chicken in Glasgow.
If your big on your chicken wings, I would say this is one of the best places I have had tried. They were absolutely massive and a big selection of different flavours. Im a heat freak so naturally went for the what I thought were the hottest and just about managed them. We went on a Wednesday which was bottomless wings night. The staff are attentive and friendly. Looking forward to trying to eat as many wings as I possible can again some time in the near future!
Alternative dietary requirements well catered for. Gorgeous cocktails, lovely atmosphere.
Disaster this place is located within a crazy golf complex, no contact number waited over one hour for delivery, had to go and get it, was told it was ready for ten minutes..clearly not as fries and chicken burger was cold🤬
I think youre really overrated. The meat is bland, its just the buttermilk that have flavour.Thats not American food
Good food, fantastic cocktails 🍸
Was told it was booking only even though the place was completely empty. Friends turned up 15mins later and were offered a table so obviously staff get to pick and choose who eats there.
Fast and friendly service. Ordered Korean bbq vegan burger and classic vegan burger with sweet potato fries. Out and out the best mock chicken I have in a bun. Crisp and tasty coating and not claggy like some Ive tasted. Really enjoyed it and will be our first choice for a meal whenever we are in Glasgow.
Chicken skin should either be crispy or it should be removed. There is no in between. Wing sauce, whether spicy or not, should always pack a punch. The only crime when it comes to wing sauce is blandness.
The Best fried chicken in town
Was really disappointed in Absurd Bird. Being a big fan of the states I was excited to try their menu but it left a lot to be desired. Food is largely overpriced considering the size of the portions. We had the loaded fries and the toppings only made the fries soggy and pretty gross. Free refills on soft-drinks would have been a nice American touch too. Overall mediocre.
Chicken was class tho pricey would go back as staff were friendly
Great friendly service! Well organised and on time and the food was great!
Ordered from East kilbride. Driver forgot order. Said hed be back in 10 mins. 2 hours later still nothing no contact number, no dinner. Id leave no stars if I could
Ordered a meal from the East kilbride kitchen from ubereats and they forgot half our order. Shambles of a place. Ruined our night
We went to absurd bird as our first restaurant after lockdow was eased. We love the food there and we werent disappointed. I finally tried the chicken and waffles and they were so tasty. I recommend this restaurant foe all chicken lovers!!
My favourite restaurant in Glasgow! Burgers are amazing and the cocktails are brilliant! Really reasonably priced too! Took my mum (who normally doesn’t really like chicken burgers) and she loved it! Super friendly staff and great music too plus a really homely too
Burgers were lukewarm with room temperature macaroni and buns were cold. Wings are decent but they dont do grilled wings, only fried. Good customer service, decor and atmosphere. Would return infrequently for the wings, not for the burgers. Fed back to the staff who were receptive and would pass it on to the kitchen staff. I would definitely recommend at least trying it.
It was my fifth visit in this restaurant. Every single time guy on reception was totally unfriendly. I would expect minimum of good customer service at restaurant pretending to be good place it. Its important to improve that as its probably the worst customer service in whole City centre.
The manager is cool.
Love the food here, especially the vegan chicken and waffles. Good selection of cocktails at not bad prices. An interesting atmosphere.
Amazing place to relax 👍🏽
Nice restaurant, great decoration, good location, delicious food. The best thing in this place is Michelle, the manager. She is gorgeous, lovely, super friendly, and she gonna save your day. You are in good hands if she serves you. If you are a student, you can use a Unidays code to get 40% discount.Looking forward to visit this restaurant again.
Collected loads orders here, staff are generally friendly, and informative with regards to delays. Had a mix up with a order they received cooked the meal professional way to deal with a situation.
Really friendly waitresses but the kitchen was very slow on the night we went, despite it being an empty restaurant in the main (was advised takeout meltdown) Food was pleasant, broccoli was especially good! The chicken burgers are great, they can do then without the bun instead which is great. They have lots of good value offers too.American diner style interior
They have a huge vegan menu and that’s amazing. I just want to order here everyday😳
Fantastic place with a wide selection of food and drink. The interior decor is brilliant and gives the place a really vibrant feel. The bottomless wings Wednesday is a brilliant idea and the selection of spice options means youll never really get bored. They often have a pub quiz or deals on everyday so youll never be short of options.
Drinks: Vast menu with large selection. The cocktails were quite nice but perhaps leaning into the steep side (£8 for an Old Fashioned).Food: Youd expect the chicken to be amazing for a place specialising in chicken but the chicken was slightly dry and the coating was too hard. The waffles were also a bit overcooked. Cost however was quite reasonable.Restaurant Interior: quirky and spacious. No faults here.Staff: attentive and welcoming. Waitress working our table proactively checked if there were any allergies which was a nice touch.Overall: Solid place for a drink and some food but not going to blow you away.
Great find. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Covid friendly. Food very good and plentiful. Would visit again.
Amazing food, great atmosphere (even with the current situation) highly recommended!
Taking too long for everything
