If you love science and would enjoy learning about a cutting edge physics research facility visit Fermilab for a tour. You don’t have to have a firm grasp of particle physics to appreciate the research being done here. You can marvel at the concepts of muons and neutrinos and have a delightful time exploring and discovering the latest contributions from this unique laboratory. Great fun for adults and curious kids. Plan for an hour and a half. The staff is helpful answering questions. Very interesting facility.

Great place to spend the day. Top floor in the main building is now open to the public - you dont have to be with a tour. Bison are out often, lots to do and see especially in the warmer months. Plenty of prairie, woods and an activity center. Plenty is off-limits, but plenty is open as well. Lots of sculptures and cool looking buildings.

Super cool place. Free tours and they treat it like an open campus you can visit. There are many artistic things to see and Buffalo on a farm. Many beautiful views from the 15th floor where you can do a self guided tour for free. There are also areas to fish and walk your dogs.

More people should learn about this wonderful place. I wish I lived closer to take advantage of the programs that they offer for kids. When we went in it was a self guided tour but you get a very good idea of what they do and why they do it here. A lot of advances in science have been made at this facility. It was also interesting to see the CERN remote control center. Very cool building as well if you are into architecture too. I would strongly suggest checking this out.

Fermilab is a majestic place. The facilities and the expansive grounds evoke a feeling of wonder. What I most admire about Fermilab is that they continue to push the boundaries of cutting edge research. Were very fortunate to have a National laboratory open to the public (thanks to Robert Rathburn Wilson) ! One of the most exciting and challenging subjects they are working on is quantum computing. They have a large computing facility dedicated to this endeavor. Fermilab is collaborating with CalTech to merge the awesome power of quantum computation with the internet. This is a good example of a research endevour that would yield a novel utility if realized. It would certainly change the world.Meanwhile, high up on Fermilabs priority list is completing construction on the LBNF (Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility). The LBNF is the essential infrastructure for a greater international effort, DUNE (Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment). The LBNF/DUNE will send neutrinos 800 miles through Earths mantle to a former gold mine in Lead, South Dakota (according to the official website). Further insight into the elusive neutrino is necessary to unify the standard model. A firm understanding of neutrino dynamics could present a number of utilities.

The best place my first home in US. The place is quite lonely but there are lots of things to explore. You need an ID badge to get entry inside the campus. There are many lakes inside the campus with beautiful walking trails along the lake shores. There are plenty of deers which can be spotted occasionally. Yeah one annoying thing about the campus is lots of geese which doesnt help to maintain the cleanliness of the campus. Overall I rate this place a good one to explore and enjoy.

Imagine a place where subatomic particles are being shot at the speed of light under your feet. Imagine where you can simply walk into a national center of excellence and immerse yourself with international scientists who are simply trying to understand how the world works. Imagine taking a walk around acres of preserved forest on trails where Bison are protected animals and being toured with pride by a local scientist explaining to you how our understanding of particle physics will change our lives yet again. Imagine where you can do all of the above anytime of the day and anytime of the year and know that the doors of science are always open to the curious human mind young or old.You would be in Fermilab.

On our ‘95 family road trip to Chicago, FermiLab was one of the attractions we visited. It’s in the midst of a somewhat agrarian part of Illinois, in particular a bison pasture. The particle accelerator ring lies beneath the ground, and while the bison graze in relative serenity above, the lab performs energetic experiments on the quantum level to piece together the workings of the Universe. The concourse in the building is huge with skylights stories above and offices on multiple balconied levels. I’m a bit of a geek so all this interested me to no end!

Do you know that Wilson Hall at Fermilab, when it was designed and built in the 60s, adopted the pioneering Béton Brut finishing style (now quite common) of its day? It was a very unique building even by global standards at the time, thanks to its visionary founder, nuclear physicist Robert Wilson.Look in Wikipedia under brutalist buildings (Béton Brut), and you will see Wilson Hall at Fermilab cited as one of the early representative buildings.

People who live near here (myself included) forget about and take for granted that they live so close to a modern marvel. Albeit Cern has taken Femilabs crown as far as accelerators go, Fermilab continues to do extremely cutting edge, and relevant science everyday. As a science dork, I love being around this place; as a nature lover, I love being around this place; as a dog owner I love taking my dog to the dog training area; and as a father, I love the fact that my kids can learn about the nature of the universe right in my own backyard.
