The credit of the establishment of this university is attributed to the Gupta ruler Kumaragupta I 750-80. This university was fully supported by the successors of Hemant Kumar Gupta. Even after the fall of the Gupta dynasty, all the ruling dynasties continued to contribute to its prosperity. It was also patronized by the great emperor Harshavardhana and the Pala rulers. Apart from local rulers and various regions of India, it also received grants from many foreign rulers.

Nalanda was a Very good univercity.it preserve our historical encient knowledge.we should read about this to know our historical glimpses .a thousand of students read here. many parts of india and foreigner student also read here.many foreigners learned person also visited there whensang,itsingh etc.I will have want to visit there.

Wonderful!Presumably, the oldest University of India, the Nalanda University was once a hub of education. But Bakhtiyar Khilji (a Turko-Afghan military general) who led his conquest in eastern region of India demolised this beautiful place and set everything on fire. It is said that around 9 Million Buddhist and Ayurvedic scriptures were burned to ground.It was home to around 2000 teachers and about 10000 students. But what now remain is ruins of that high-class educational monument. Its deeply saddening to watch this place like this but equally proud to have this old historical place in India.Must visit. Entry fees is low. Time 9 AM to 5 PM.
