The lagoon hosts over 160 species of birds in the peak migratory season. Birds from as far as the Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal, Aral Sea and other remote parts of Russia, Kirghiz steppes of Kazakhstan, Central and southeast Asia, Ladakh and Himalayas come here. These birds travel great distances; some of them possibly travel upto 12,000 km, to reach Chilika Lake..

Good place to visit Lake Chilka. However, the environment and ambience is not like Goa or Gokarna.

It is a pretty amazing experience as long as there is no crowd. And, luckily the same happened with me due to the current situation. No crowd, no nonsense. Quite windy with the lake water splashing ashore.

One of beautiful place and it is one of the main Ghat from where private boats are hired to explore Chilka Lake.Kali Jai temple is 16kms from this Ghat and Rs 200 is charged on sharing basis, Early morning or evening ride is preferred.

Its the place from where you can get a ferry boat for kalijai (at rs 100 per head) and other islands but the prices are too high for other islands (reservation mandatory). The boats are wooden boats and not well maintained,no lifeguards, you can also go to Barkul and book OTDC ferry boats. But You can enjoy 1 hr long journey in the lake which is mesmerizing and scenic

Thousands of people are coming and going from here everyday to see maa kalijai. A big tourist place is situated inside the lake..everyone should reach there only through boat. Kindly requesting our government to modify or reinnovate this place.
