The idol was not carved recently, it was carved when Ballari fort was built, the Basava (Nandi) should be always in front Shiva / Linga and vice versa, but the temple authority has closed Nandi seeing Shiva / Linga, to the best of my knowledge there was Shiva temple which was opposite to Nandi (hidden somewhere in the surrounding area or may be destroyed by invaders / locals) people think that temple premises is well developed, instead of cleaning the pond, the government covered half of the pond with waste materials under the influence of illegal miner Gali Janardhan Reddy, our ancestors used this water for daily use but now the sewage is left into the pond by the surrounding area, almost the pond is covered with plastic covers, and they have built the temple upon the waste thrown in the pond, if the pond was used in the right way it would have fulfilled the thirst of many people, assume that if there are heavy rains in Ballari, the water would have collected in the pond, but people are so negligent that they think Ballari doesnt get heavy rains, anyway the people have destroyed their own pond

Once a polluted sewage Basavanakunte pond has been converted into a park and a temple of Nandi or Basaveshwara has been built. There is stone Nandi idol. But Basavanakunte pond is partially closed; polluted surroundings are still there.
