We only hiked in 2 miles & followed the Payne creek extension. In and out with a brief sandwich stop took us 2.5 hours with our 12 & 10 year old children. It was beautiful with nice views and plenty of wildflowers. It was mostly uphill to begin with down & up throughout, which made it nice for the children on the way back. We also stopped at the cement slab/ homestead (?) We heard about. Almost missed it, ot was a great view of the valley.
More people than I generally like but I cut over to the pain gulch trail and it got more secluded. And cooler too. Its a really pretty hike, the sound of the creek and birds accompanied with the nice mix of aspens and pines. Definitely youre generic Rockies landscape.
Beautiful trail with excellent views. We felt as if we were the only ones on the trail for most of it. The creeks are easy to cross and provide a great water source! Enjoy!
Connects to the Colorado Trail. A few CMTs,(culturally modified trees) deer, and signs of mountain lion activity.(tracks, scat) Occasional birding opportunities. Mostly hairy/downy woodpeckers, white-breasted/red-breasted/ and pygmy nuthatches, dark-eyed juncos. Crossbills and Williamsons sapsuckers have also been seen. Great starting point for Bigfoot field research.
Great day to hike, the trail was quiet, the clouds arrived at the right time. Perfect.
Beautiful place! So quiet and serene. Loved it!
Quiet, easy for the first few miles. Cell phone reception for quite a while. Good place to take a walk.
Great views and fun hikes! Lovely place to hike with a surprise meadow once you hike in a ways!!
Close into town. We saw only 3 other hikers on the trail all day.
Great trail, Ive never made it past 3 miles. I before at 3.5 it gets really tough.
GREAT DAY
