Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has been described as being extremely important not only for humans but for gods as well. Situated inside this legendary site is the place where Lord Shiva was liberated from the sins of the Brahman. This practice of delivering salvation to the ancestors at this place is believed to yield eight times more than the expected result. Brahma Kapal is situated inside the holy Dham of Badrinath and is the place where Lord Shiva was freed from his sin of Brahma Hatya. It is a popular belief that performing the ritual of Pind Daan here will free the souls of your ancestors from hell. As compared to the pilgrimage at Gaya performing Pind Daan at Brahma Kapal is said have eight times more the positive result. Not just lord Shiva the Pandava brothers are also believed to have achieved their freedom from the sin of committing Brahma Hatya. This place has also found its mention in the holy Vedas as well as the Puranas. Here is an interesting story related to this place:This holy site is also associated with the origin of the entire universe. It is believed that when Brahma had approached his daughter Prithvi with wrong intentions in his mind, Lord Shiva had cut one of his heads off from his body with the help of his Trishul. Brahma’s head got stuck in his Trishul and Lord Shiva then became sinful. In order to get rid of this sin Lord Shiva had to descend to the earthly realm to perform penance. Lord Shiva came to the current spot of Brahma Kapal and this was the place where Lord Shiva had separated the head of Brahma form his trishul here. This place was also visited by the Pandava brothers who had defeated and killed their own kin during the war of Mahabharata. In order to get rid of the sin of killing their kin the Pandava brothers were on their way for their journey to heaven and they stopped here to offer their prayers to the souls of their departed ancestors. As per instructed by Lord Krishna Pandavas also did the ritual for Shradh in order to attain salvation for their ancestors as well as for the people who lost their lives in the battlefield. It is said that performing deep penance here will grant your ancestors with moksha or salvation from the karmic cycle of birth and rebirth.

It is about 100-200 mts from the main temple. ghat situated on the banks of Alaknanda River. It is the final place for doing pind daan for ancenstors. No need to do it at any other place after doing it here.Process is very simple. Go to temple 1 day before the day you want to do pind daan. Buy a ticket of Rs 31 from temple. You will get bhog from temple next morning at 6:30 AM. That needs to be taken to the ghat. You will find lot of pandas there who will do. Best thing about this place is the process they have. All pandas are from temple. They will not force you to give more amount.. its all your intent.. there are 3 steps there. 1. Pind daan ( you are supposed to give some dakshina here), 2. Tarpan - this is next to the Alaknands river (here also some dakshina) and 3rd is shanti Havan (Dakshina here as well). Overall it will takne 1-1.5 hrs.I found lot of peace here and felt really good.

VishnuThe temple and town form one of the four Char Dham and Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The temple is also one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Badrinath—holy shrines for Vaishnavites.

It was again a good experience..there...My elders did all the last rites again for my grand mother, my grand fathers mother and father.. They say, that its the place of God and Goddesses where you...pray and whatever you wish for that will happen in some other way.... And once anyone died there, they call it as your asthma will live peacefully and sleep peacefully. Ive heard my elders saying that... This very place is the most beautiful place in this earth, cuz there you can see the flowing of the river Ganga, as well as the cold weather, at the same time the prayers that you hear on. Shivji exits all over there... Like watching, guiding, supporting, telling, and blessing us with a gokd future. I believe that whatever we do or whatever happens with us, its happens for a reason. So if you go somewhere like, whether it Brahma Kapal or Kedarnath or whatever it may be, but you know you should be blessed with that, thats why you went there.. Not everyone is blessed with all such things. This is also one of the fascinating thing about this whole STORY.

This is the place in Badarinath. According to Indian mythology initially both lord Shiva and Brahma had five heads. To remove the confusion Shiva cut one head of Brahma. the skull of Brahma gummed to hand of Shiva. To avoid that Shiva roamed so many places including Varanasi. In Varanasi it drooped. But when Shiva come out from the city again it gummed to his hand. At last it drooped in Badarinath. there is faith that if we did the pooja for the ancestors here they will go the heaven. This place is just three minutes walking distance from Badrivshal temple.

Five stars is purely for ritualistic significance of Sanatan dharma. It is said that Lord Brahma himself exists at this place and thus if someone does Rituals and Shraddha Karma for the departed souls of his ancestors, they get salvation from the cycle of birth and death one after another. And he should/could not perform the pindadaan and tarpan anywhere in his entire life again for those invoked ancestors. It is situated just 100 meters north of the Badrinath Temple.

This place is located on the banks of the Alaknanda River, about 400 steps away from the Badrinath temple in Uttarakhand, the legend associated with this place is that when a head of Brahma was cut off by Shankar Lord, Shankar ji incurred the sin of killing Brahma and Brahma ji. The chopped shisha was stuck with Shankars finger, after a lot of effort and pilgrimage etc., he clung to the shisha finger, but when Shankar ji reached this place of Badrinath, wandering Lord Narayans penance, he went to Shish Shankar. After separating from Jees finger automatically and went into the earth, seeing the brilliance of that ascetic place, Shankar God blessed the place in a way and said that whoever will come to this place and do charity for their fathers, will do their deeds. The priests here are not even greedy, anyone can come here for less money and do shraddha for the sake of their ancestors, and by coming here, doing this work gives great satisfaction.

It is believed that when Brahma misplaced his daughter Prathvi, Shiva severed one head of Brahma from the trident. This head of Brahma was stuck on the trident of Shiva and he also felt the sin of brahmacharya. Even after traveling around the world, Brahmas head was not separated from the trident. Finally he got freedom from this sin in the Brahmakapala Tirtha of Badrikashram. Since then, it is called the Kapal Mochan Tirtha. Here Brahmas head was stuck on the trident of Shiva and transformed into a rock.

To get rid of the sin of killing Brahma, when Bholenath went on a tour of Prithvi Lok, Brahmas head fell on the ground from the trident, five hundred meters from Badrinath, since then this place became famous as Brahmakapala. The Pandavas, who were going towards heaven to get rid of it, had also offered their ancestors at this place.
