Place with beautiful articultures. You will find lot of monkeys in this place but the arts done by the chalukyas. Beautiful arts on the wall in all the four walls with different different concepts.

Excellent place to see evolution of cave architecture. Detail carvings from Puranas, Ramayana, Mahabharata. You need to climb rock cut steps to see this monument.

I parked my beloved bike and went and then had the very first look, i had to think, is this place really in bharat, in our country, because i felt like, its some alien site, some beyond normal things.the whole is just too beautiful

One of the best example of rock cut caves in gigantic scale. Its a surreal experience to visit the place which has an imposing presence in Badami. There are 4 main caves numbered 1-4 in the sequence from ground level. First cave is around 60 feet from ground level (means a bit of climbing the stairs is involved) and few more steps to further caves.Visiting here gives you an excellent example of North and South styles including Dravidian and Nagara styles, Hindu and Jain gods, motifs and sculpture and icons. Various Vishnu and Shiva avatars, Jain Tirthankars can be prominently noticed.Recommend you to look all around and also the ceiling where you can notice various icons and motifs. Combo of swastika symbol, square with 15 spokes of fishes and several other etc are to be looked for. One of the sculpture suggests Taekwondo was practiced in India way back in 6th century. From the top, there is a nice view of the lake and most of Badami. Keep at least 2-3 hours for visit and rest of time can be used to visit temple across the lake, archeological museum and the mountain along the museum. Museum has incredible stuff with photos of ASI restoration process, sketches explaining different architectural types in Badami and nearby area. One particular display is quite explicit. Another disclaimer: On right and left to the museum, and main Badami caves, there are unique attractions and great views from top but beware of gangs of monkeys if you are allergic to them. At Badami, just avoid holding any eatables and you should be OK but at other places be extra careful.

Amazing place cave was build at 7th century CE somewhat unfinished, it consist of open an veranda and an oblong antechamber with a sanctuary piercing into its rear wall

Been here a few times and find it way better, prettier, more welcoming and more interesting than Hampi. It is also maybe a little less well known and therefore less well-trodden. There is plenty to see and do and you can easily spend a day or more just exploring the lake and the caves and the local houses and people. Apparently there is plenty of climbing to do too although I have never taken advantage of this, I might do one day. All in all this is well worth the drive from Goa that we do and definitely one of our favourite road trips.

It is always great to visit here. The creation, the past of this place is truly amazing.

The jain religion shown here in most of the caves carved by way of statues. You will get satisfaction of nature, scenery of surrounded area, on top fort is built and stone art. Only precaution of monkeys tobe taken as they snatch your material. Steps are required to be climbed and you must have capacity.

Badam caves are really gigantic and amazing.It takes quite a lot time to visit all the caves, but you can take break in between and relax and sit in the veranda of caves.There is an intrinsic historical significance in each cave

On the right of the hill there is a water fall which can be seen during monsoon and even a 1mm rain can actually fill the lake. The lake water was used as a source of drinking water, but now its polluted and unusableThe condition of the artifacts and the caves is much better than the ones in Ajanta and Ellora and hampi. For some reasons Muslims invaders spared this site.There seems to be one more level where there is canon and other artifacts kept but has been locked out due to multiple suicides in the past

The temples are 142 km east of Belgaum and 140 km northwest of Hampi, while the Malaprabha River is 4.8 km away.
