The Bibi Ka Maqbara (English: Tomb of the Lady[1][2]) is a tomb located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. It was commissioned in 1660 by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the memory of his first and chief wife Dilras Banu Begum (posthumously known as Rabia-ud-Daurani) and is considered to be a symbol of Aurangzebs conjugal fidelity.[3][4][5] It bears a striking resemblance to the Taj Mahal, the mausoleum of Aurangzebs mother, Mumtaz Mahal.[6] Aurangzeb was not much interested in architecture though he had commissioned the small, but elegant, Pearl Mosque at Delhi. Bibi Ka Maqbara is the second largest structure that Aurangzeb has built, the largest being the Badshahi Mosque.[7]The comparison to the Taj Mahal has often obscured its very own considerable charm.[8] Due to the strong resemblance, it is also called the Dakkhani Taj (Taj of the Deccan).[9] Bibi Ka Maqbara is the principal monument of Aurangabad and its historic city.[10][11] An inscription found on the main entrance door mentions that this mausoleum was designed and erected by Ata-ullah, an architect and Hanspat Rai, an engineer respectively.[9] Ata-ullah was the son of Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, the principal designer of the Taj Mahal.[12] Aurangzebs son, Muhammad Azam Shah was in later years put in charge of overseeing the repair-work of the mausoleum by Shah Jahan.

Cleanness is an issue. I dont know what their employees doing. In short words very poor management. This is how we are representing our country on front of foreigners. If someone is coming from 1000 s of miles to see this beautiful structure then they must disappointed due to the limited areas visit. My suggestion is it should fully opened for normal days and the going on work will be done on off day. Or should fully closed until the work completion.

A symbol of remembrance, Bibi Ka Maqbara is almost indistinguishable from another memento of love and its inspiration, the taj mahal. It might be a derivative of the Taj but the mausoleum stands proud as an expression of a son’s love for his mother and has its own wandering evocations. Also called the Tomb of the Lady, Bibi Ka Maqbara was designed by Ataullah, the son of Ahmad Lahauri, the architect of the Taj Mahal which explains its appearance heavily based on the prime marvel. Related to each other in ways more than one yet separated by time, magnitude and miles both the mausoleums are exemplary depictions of love, memory and loss. While the first memorial, Taj Mahal belongs to Aurangzeb’s mother, the second, Bibi Ka Maqbara is dedicated to his wife – both the tombs immortalising these women in the chapters of history and alluding to the despotic yet the last influential Mughal emperor.

They say one should know about the place we visit. The bibi ka maqbara also known as tomb of the lady is located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. It was commissioned in 1660 by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the memory of his first and chief wife Dilras Banu Begum (posthumously known as rabia-ud-daurani) and is considered to be a symbol of aurangzebs conjugal fidelity. Dilras Banu Begum was born princess of the prominent Safavid dynasty of Iran (Persia) and was the daughter of Mirza Badi-uz-Zaman Safavi (titled Shahnawaz Khan) who was the viceroy of Gujarat. An inscription found on the main entrance door mentions that this mausoleum was designed and erected by Ata-ullah, an architect and Hanspat Rai, an engineer respectively. The marble for this mausoleum was brought from mines near Jaipur. Place is good to visit for travellers like me😉. A ticket price is ₹ 25/-. Its called Tajmahal of Aurangabad for reason, Its look like Tajmahal and if you never really saw Agras Taj Mahal, and not currently planning, then you should visit it. Its a good place to visit with family. I suggest to visit in early evening as golden sky makes it more beautiful. It will be open till 10 PM but since there not enough lights is there, so its waste to be there in night. I saw both Tajmahal and Bibi ka maqbara, I still says that Tajmahal is better than it but its a good replica of Taj. From distance, Its look exactly like Taj Mahal with some minor differences but when you see it from near, you will see the difference. Taj Mahal have lots of carving on white marble and this artwork of Tajmahal look stunning and amazing and make it one of the worlds wonder. But in Bibi ka Maqbara, there not much artwork and carving is there. Still if you never saw Tajmahal, you should visit it and you will love it. Only concern is the maintenance, its not properly maintained and you can see black patches on tower and on the maqbara itself. Also a lot of waste is thrown in campus and damages done by visitors. Please keep in mind that our government is not the only one responsible for maintaining these historical sites, We also have responsibility to keep these places clean and should not destroy them just to take good selfies or to show love to your loved one, it already have enough carving.

While the first memorial, Taj Mahal belongs to Aurangzeb’s mother, the second, Bibi Ka Maqbara is dedicated to his wife – both the tombs immortalising these women in the chapters of history and alluding to the despotic yet the last influential Mughal emperor.Bibi Ka Maqbara InformationBuilt in 1668 the Tomb of Rabia Durani or Bibi Ka Maqbara was erected by Azam Shah, the son of Aurangzeb to commemorate his mother Dilras Begum who was titled Rabia Durani post her death. Being the spitting image of the Taj Mahal, the mausoleum is also called the Taj of the Deccan or the Dakkhani Taj. The north of the country is dotted with the specimens of the Mughal architectural magnificence, Bibi Ka Maqbara stands as a lone soul in the southern part. It was Aurangzeb’s long-standing governorship of Aurangabad that the shrine came to exist in the city and is today one of the most famous historical monuments in Maharashtra.Bibi Ka Maqbara HistoryThe story of Dilras Banu is nothing short of a fairytale. Born in the Safavid royal family of Iran, princess Dilras was the daughter of Shahnawaz Khan who was the then viceroy of the state of Gujarat. She married Aurangzeb in 1637 thus becoming his first consort and wife. Together they had five children and after delivering her fifth child, Dilras died. Both Aurangzeb and his eldest son, Azam Shah couldn’t bear the loss of the most important woman in their lives. It is said that the father-son duo were grief stricken for months and it took great efforts for them to come out of the state of shock. It was then in 1668 that Azam Shah ordered for a mausoleum to be built for his beloved mother on the lines of Taj Mahal, which was the resting place of Banu’s mother-in-law and Aurangzeb’s mother, Mumtaz Mahal. Both the women died because of complications developed through childbirth.Bibi Ka Maqbara ConstructionThe tomb was to be more splendid than the Taj itself but due to strict adherence to the tight budget allocated for the construction, the mausoleum could only result in an arduous emulation. The Mughal architects led great importance on having a stream passing by the structures they erected with a garden based on a Charbagh pattern. Bibi Ka Maqbara is no different. There was a time when River Kham could be seen flowing behind the tomb. The Maqbara also has a Charbagh-styled garden and it sits pretty right in the centre with structures in the four directions. To the north is a 12-door Baradari, south is where the main entrance is, to the west is a mosque and facing the east is Aina khana or the mirror chamber. The white dome of the Maqbara has panels adorned with intricate designs of flowers. The maqbara is graced by four minarets on corners with stairs leading to the tomb on three sides. The pathways are decorated with trees on both the sides. There is a water pool along with octagonal-shaped cisterns and the centre of the pathway consists of 61 fountains and 488 ft long and 96 feet broad reservoirs.Bibi Ka Maqbara FactsRabia-ud-Durani, the title conferred to Dilras Banu Begum was attributed to an Iranian noble lady, Rabia Basra known for her benevolence. The marble for the construction of the mausoleum was sourced from the marble mines in Jaipur. Its cost of construction is estimated to be around Rs 6-7 lakh.It is believed that the marbles for the construction of the structure were carried in ox-pulled carts.

People already visited Taj Mahal will praising the replica.A tomb of Aurangjebs wife.A good place to visit. Nice architecture. It is a replica of original Taj Mahal. One can have good photo shoot with family.Niceits a small version of taj mahal of agra. really nuce structure, quite big but not as big as original one.Should be valued for its own splendourAliasing this little piece of wonder as Mini Taj Mahal is itself undermining the splendor of the Tomb of Dilras Banu Begum, the first wife of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Visitors have a general tendency to compare it with the Taj Mahal, which should not be done. The ornate designes are entirely carved in marble. The colorful stones engraving are totally lacking here, which is what distinguishes it from the mighty Taj. The grave of the Queen lies one level lower and is viewed from above. A very well manicured garden surrounds the mausoleum complex. Although the water channels and fountains are not operative.Tip: Choose the early part of the day for a nice experience.
