We had limited time to stay in Katsura when we visited so it was such a pity there wasnt a lot of time to fully enjoy the experience and food. The waitress was very friendly and helpful with rushing our orders, the fish was fresh and our mains were satisfactory :)

Nice Japanese restaurant. We went on the seafood buffet day. It was good. It had sushi rolls, nigiri, tepanyaki, shabu shabu, tempura ... A bit of everything. Quality was good, but not expextacular. I would go back.

Came on a quiet night and used a few vouchers. Was served by a Japanese waiter, who provided absolutely top-class service. Ordered the platter menu and left thoroughly filled and satisfied. The seafood was all incredibly fresh and the tempura was fantastically light. The desserts were perhaps less than perfect; there was a slightly watery creme brulee, but apart from that, a delicious meal!

Honestly this place was super disappointing! We ordered a vodka martini, they could not get this simple order correct. They came back and asked us to clarify what this was a few times then brought 3 different vodka drinks that were all incorrect. Then my sashimi came with a bone in it( it happens ) then our orders got mistaken and took 30 minutes to get the correct dish out while everyone else ate. But I will say after a few complaints a man named Ayusha ( hope thats how you spell it ) came and helped smoothed things over. With that being said I will never return to this restaurant and would not advise anyone else waste their time.

My partner and I came here for dinner (and lunch) on our holiday. The food was absolutely amazing! We originally had a Tepinyaki(?) table chosen but later on asked if we could change to a regular as my partner had looked at the menu online and chosen what he wanted. The staff were just the best. We were served by a lovely lady named Grace. Anyone who says there was a “western feel” is crazy and silly. The pricing was pretty good. The wait between getting food was a bit long but it was quite busy with a few large families that night. The ladies that worked that night with Grace are the most amazing ladies ever. I had unfortunately lost a bear pendant and rushed back in shaken and in the middle of an anxiety attack and they all happily and calmly helped me look around where I was sitting. Eventually he was found outside (-.-) but I am so grateful for the ladies taking a few minutes to help me look. Great service, amazing food, the authenticity was spot on and I am definitely going back there soon!!!!!

On Friday I went to the Rendezvous Hotel for dinner with the intention of celebrating my guest’s birthday which was the following day. The purpose for going to the Rendezvous was because the hotel claimed their Katsura restaurant provided “an all-you-can-eat experience” from their “extensive seafood selection”. From the menu, my guest and I were attracted to the fresh Scampi and Oysters, so were eagerly looking forward to the “all-you-can-eat experience”.Alas, our aspirations of having an enjoyable meal were abruptly dashed when we were unable to get any Scampi of the first serving (that eventually came at 6:15 p.m.) – in fact we weren’t able to get any Scampi at all. For both the fresh Scampi and Oysters, if you weren’t standing in the queue you were going to miss out altogether. I stood in the queue for the second serving of fresh Oysters and managed to get 2 – Wow! Several people in the same queue had to walk away with an empty plate. I didn’t bother to queue after these experiences. I did enjoy (2 pieces of) the Eel Sushi, but when I returned for ‘seconds’ the dish was empty and after 5 minutes had not been replenished. This was also noticeable with several other dishes. What a huge disappointment when we and other diners are paying $78.00 for a 2 hour dining experience that was well below expectations of a reputable Hotel restaurant. As a regular (every) Friday night restaurant diner, I am extremely disappointed as to what the Rendezvous’ Katsura restaurant buffet dinner provided for me and my guest. A very untasteful “all-you-can-eat experience”.

A bit of an impulse really. Noticed when I was there that a group came in and had their food teppanyaki. I think that would be fun. I ordered a la carte and enjoyed what I had. I loved the seasonal veges and cabbage salad in particular (the side dishes). The crayfish and soft crab was a treat! Really nice friendly service. This restaurant is in the Grand Millenium Hotel.

Very disappointed with Katsura Japanese Restaurant.Made a booking for the buffet dinner to celebrate a family members birthday, and then received a call a few days later saying they just got a reservation for a private function, and that they will be cancelling the buffet meal. This is not how you treat your customers. How dare you just change your mind on us with a booking that was made AFTER OURS (from our perspective, it looks like you just wanted the more profitable solution which was to neglect us and others who may have booked before that private function group). We will never dine at Katsura, and will be informing our friends and colleagues of how we were treated. If the manager wants to speak with me, feel free to do so. You will have my number there.

Had the grand seafood buffet tonight. Food was just average. The patrons of the restaurant were shocking. When the waitress brought out scampi and oyster, the patrons just rushed forward and grabbed the seafood with their hands. OMG! I had to wait for a few servings before I got my 3 scampi. The restaurant ran out of teppanyaki and the chef told me there was no more available. Worst still, the restaurant was filthy because some guests split food and dropped scampi shells on the floor. I would expect a better dining environment but the guests really spoiled it. If you prefer nice ambience, this is definitely not the place for you.

Great and genuine Japanese food and staff, would easily recommend, especially the buffet on Thursdays and Fridays, its a feast! Quality and plentiful seafood, sushi & sashimi; in spite of several attempts made by certain groups to clear it all! 🤣 Sake and Umeshu tastings as well! Cant go wrong!

It is my 2nd time dining at Katsura, 1st time was 10-15years ago for a friends 21st and from memory it was quite nice. This year, I took my wife there for a treat on Valentines day. This place still looks good, with traditional Japanese deco and very friendly/helpful staff waiting at the door.Their food tho, in my opinion is not up to the standard anymore. With $88 per head youd expect finer quality food than what they served there. Sashimi isnt too fresh, and the wasabi isnt fresh either. Scampi is nice; saw quite a few people have gone crazy for them... I saw a few mountains of scampi walk by few times. The akaebi (red prawn) is also quite good too, but not as popular as the scampi. My personal favourite is their dessert, pretty good selections to choose from. But I was expecting the greentea panna cotta which has been replaced by mango panna cotta. And the coffee jelly doesnt look appetising at all, it looks like biology experiment - gone wrong.Would I recommend it? Hmm, only if you like to eat a lot of scampi and oysters.. yes.

Tried the buffet. Sashimi was fresh and had many choices. Didnt set out soup spoons for guests to use even though there were soup dishes. The beef on skewers was not fresh. Ribs were quite tender. Liked them and the fried rice. First buffet place that Ive ever seen providing guests with that small of the plates. Not sure if one of desserts was meant to be crepes or pancakes but it tasted like neither. Some of desserts were from the cans/jars (like peach, lychees, coconut jelly cubes), creme brule had strong taste of alcohol. Mango panna cotta was good. Like the fact that they had shabu shabu. Had scampi, big shrimps, crabs, and slipper crabs, which was good. Lots of people liked them and loaded many mountains of plates which I think ruined the rest of dinners because owner had to try other ways to cut down cost. Overall, not sure if $88 was worth the buffet. (But it could be because of the high price grocery that I saw at the markets). If had more time in Auckland, would have tried regular dinners just to see, because of others reviews.

I have eaten so many buffets in Auckland. This is the best buffet in Auckland. I think it is very good value for money. 80$ one person, all kinds of sushi sashimi ice cream are delicious, the most important thing is! Antarctic crayfish can be eaten indefinitely, really super delicious, five-star recommended!

The food was delicious and the service was as bad as a hotel. However, it was too noisy because of the person doing teppanyaki in the evening, so I changed my seat. Even at the farthest spot from there, it was noisy and uncomfortable to eat. teppanyaki knows that performance is important, but he believes that other customers who come for a quiet meal should also be considerate.Good service & food, except teppanyaki. The teppanyaki performed near my table was too noisy to have quiet dinner. I had no choice but to change my seat. Even at the farthest table from there, it was so loud. The restaurant should consider other customers who want nice, quiet meal.
