The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patroness. Construction started in 447 BC when the Athenian Empire was at the peak of its power.
Great place! Probably one of the best sites (The Zeus Olympian one wasnt really much for example). Recommended to get your ticket online from GetYourGuide to avoid the line! You just scan the QR code and go on directly, which was great. It is of course sunny and not much shade so prepare accordingly. Also a lot of climbing. Once you are up the view is great! For us the Parthenon was the highlight so far! Careful, it can be slippery on the way down. It would be great if we had read about it beforehand but still it was great just taking picture in that historic spot.
Very interested place! You have to see it!
A wonder from the past, truly spectacular. Be prepared and bring sun glasses on a hot day, as it does get bright here. There is one water fountain and wc on top, towards the very end. You can bring your bottle with you to refill. Stones are very slippery so flip flops are for the brave... This place needs no recommendation, it speaks for itself.
Beautiful ruins in the perfect location. Try and get there exactly at 0800, by 0830-0840 the buses arrive and the entire site is mobbed. We had a half hour or so with about a dozen people.
Amazing. Book tickets online and there is no waiting on line for you. We were in for 2 minutes. Prepare 1,5 to 2 hour to see all without rush
Fabulous. Just what you would expect...although I didnt realise there were two temples.€20.
Not much of a review needed for this wonder site. Would recommend visiting first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon. We went up around midday and it was roasting. Be prepared to wait a while to get the right photos as it’s one of the busiest attraction sites I’ve seen.
Nice please! Must see.Ive been here a few times.Unfortunately the way to North Slope was closed but nobody warned visitors about that. All people came to closed way and had to return.
One of the most famous buildings in the world... Must visit is your in Athens
The glory of the ancient classical world, a marvel built by free men, an absolute must to visit in Athens together with the other temples in the Acropole complex. I encourage visitors to take the time to read about some of the Parthenons marble relief decorations and the slight curvatures of the base and columns. There is much more than meets the eye.Unfortunately though sometime in 2020 a bland pavement made out of cement was layed out in the area surrounding the temple. The greek authorities should consider to remove it as its image makes a stark negative contrast to the temple. There must be another better way to renovate the pavement of the surrounding area.
What’s there to say about this amazing place? You just have to go and commune with history and the birthplace of democracy. We need it more more than ever!
A must see if you are visiting Athens, amazing views and stunning pieces of history. Strongly advise going as early in the morning as you can/late a night since the middle of the day is simply too hot and very busy.
Must visit Parthenon if you ever come to Athens! You cannot miss it!!!! Amazing ancient Greek architecture. Try going early in the morning or late at afternoon since it is very hot during the summer months
Go early in the day before it gets too hot, there is not much shade on top. You can only more in one direction once you enter, there is no going back. It’s best to get a guided tour if you are not familiar with Greek mythology.
What a sight. Book your tickets in advance from the official site, head down for 8 and youll beat the crowd and give yourself some time to walk up to view and take in this incredible historic wonder. Currently theres some scaffolding and crane working on restoring the Parthenon but still worth a visit.
What a sight to behold. If there is one thing you do in Athens it is this landmark. Go in the morning as it gets extremely hot and there is little to no shade.
Beautiful and impressive monuments with the view on the city 🥰
Totally worth a visit, specially if you arrive BEFORE the massive cruise excursions - so you have a clear crowdless experience from 08:00 until 09:30ish. Starting the journey up there from the eastern Acropolis ticket entrance is also recommended to avoid queues and see it all.
Absolutely amazing. This is something everyone needs to see in their lifetime. The views from the top in all directions are breathtaking.
Such a special experience, I’ve read all about this place in books about Ancient Greece, but to see it in real life is just unreal. This place is a must see when visiting Athens!
This is probably a must-see on the agenda. Go there to see and then go to the museum
New old place. Everything is refurbished and made from white marble. It s nice to see that stadium during Tokyo 2020.
Nice cool day to see this. This was definitely not a let down! Make sure to enter from the north there are far more ticket stalls and you wont wait in line to long.
This was an incredible experience. The views from atop this location are phenomenal. There is just so much history here and so much to see. I highly recommend visiting the pantheon and Acropolis while in Athens!
A must have experience din Athena!
Beautiful ancient place , very interesting :)
Visited here during summer and it was HOT! Make sure you bring an umbrella/parasol, water, sunglasses and a hat. Its a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. I wore sandals and we walked through pebbled rocks. Still loved my experience. Would definitely do it again during a cooler season like Fall or Spring.
Beautiful bucket list place
Parthenon is situated on a hill. The ticket costs 20 Euros per person. The city of Athens is visible from this raised structure. Truly one of the ancient wonders of the world and also the ruins are an important archaeological site.
A must-see location for those who are visiting Athens for the first time. It is not simply a former temple built since 447 BC but offers a never-ending stream of history and Greek mythology. This is where many nowadays worlds definitions started. I would recommend you to book a local tour guide from Airbnb Experience to obtain a more in-depth understanding about this heritage. And dont forget to check out the Acropolis Museum!
Most incredible site I seen in my life ❤
There are no words. Just awe for this miracle of the ancient world. Go up the hill and admire with all your existence, all your soul. And be happy and feel grateful you saw it!😉
Really exciting to see in person. The tour guides do an excellent job in bringing the history of ancient Athens to life. Make sure you bring good running shoes with you!
Something that I really think needs to be seen with your own eyes to truly appreciate it. Absolutely beautiful.
Heart of Athens, wonderful! Ongoing reconstruction, each stone returns to its place.
Awsome place worth it 100%. For those who love to have slow walks, those who like historical art and the ones who want to have some fitness as well.
Incredible Ancient Building in Greece. This is the most known structure located at the Acropolis. An absolute must visit place
Take the side entrance for less crowd and walk through some other sites on the ascent. We went late and they wisked us out of there but there is a great spot for city views and the sunset at the overlook near the main entrance.
A good place that bring the Greek history to life.
Spectacular piece of the ancient world, worth the queues to get in.Just pay the 10 euro entrance fee, the extra charges arent worth paying.Wear rubber soled shoes for the slippery marble walkways everywhere.
Go see it with a guide. So much to see and learn.
Words cannot describe how magical this monument is. It is a must visit in Athens
Fantastic experience overall! Bring your own water along with hats, folks!
Iconic in itself, and offering fantastic views of Athens
Recommend to go at sunset
Amazing site. It is a must go. I would suggest to go early in the morning so you don’t have to queue and it is not too hot
Its history!! Just to see it is wonderful experience, so iconic. Learn a bit about it before you go, youll enjoy it more. Also, great walk to the Acropolis from nearby lovely Plaka if you happen to be staying there. Very close.
Historic place with the remains of a great culture, that forged most of our culture.Loved to visiting this place that we used to look over books or magazines. It’s a worthy place to visit.Go with comfortable shoes, the terrain might not be flat on every step.Bring some water, and charge your phone, cuz your re gonna take lot of pics. :)
A huge part of the history just to see in the centre of the beautiful, unforgettable city Athens.
Greek and western civilization iconic monument. Super must to visit once in a lifetime.
A must see place in Athens.. history of gods...
Beautiful, amazing and ancient. Would highly recommend a visit of youre in Athens
Great place 👌
A must visit place, even better with a tour guide to tell you the stories, history and myths behind what you see. Try to get there early morning or early evening as it can get very hot! It is mind boggling how much history, for all of Greece, can be felt through the Parthenon. Really a must visit place when in Athens. Afterwards enjoy the cafes and shops in and around Plaka.
Best place to be! Best place to visit! Its an appointment with history and culture! Breathtaking view!
It has been my dream to see this since I was a child, and you can feel the history in the structure. It was so weird to see it in person but it was so magical from a history perspective. Entry is weird and you cant touch anything, but overall it was wonderful.
Its the Parthenon. A must see when in Athens. Go early to avoid the crowds, and the heat in summer. The only detracting factor is the copious amounts of scaffolding and cranes still here as they were when I last visited it. It is well overdue for the authorities to either complete their work or just remove/replace the eyesore construction equipment.
Impressive how cute and amazing is historical greece architecture. If you go before 11am is not necessarily required to have the online tickets as the queue moves quickly. We spent less than 2 minutes in the line. There is only a water vending machine in the entrance of the park but it only accepts coins. There is no shadow, no water, no bathroom in the top, so take care of the sun and bring water.CAREFUL, the combined ticket they sell for 30€ does NOT include the Acropolis museum. It is still worth the shot to buy it and see the other places, we saw all of them in one day.
Worth visiting!!! The ticket is €20 or free if you have Greek ID card and you are under 25. Great view of Athens from there.
It was a beautiful site to visit. Besides the acropolis, there are so many areas yo take beautiful photos. We went at aprox 1pm. Id recommend go early or the ladies before closing. It was very hot, alot of walking uphill..but areas of shade to rest.Thete is also a frozen lemonade shop when leaving..I HIGHLY recommend a stop there. A bit pricey but expected.
Just spectacular and humbling to be there and witness the past
Well preserved piece of history and they are slowly reconstructing it, piece by piece.
Good history and monument but very crowded
Gorgeous! A must see! I recommend finding a tour so you can get the whole experience!
Quick walk but gorgeous view
Such history! Was an amazing adventure, worth the walk!
So first time.. get skip the line and go through north gate.. no waiting... They only let water in so no drinks... If u need water dont buy at stand but at vending machine 50 cents v 17 bucks... Best time to go afternoon between 4-6. Close gates at 6... And wear grippy shoes. The slabs are super slippery even in sneakers.
Amazing visit ! Not too many people (in June). There are official guides who speaks different languages if you need to. Its free for young European people under 25 years old but you have to buy the ticket directly at the desk at the entrance ☺️
Its incredible and one of the most famous historical sites in the world
Worth your time
Incredible architecture, and construction. Must see when in Athens.
A sign of democracy to the world and to the ancient Greek culture
Majestic beauty.
One of the oldest building in Athene which you must visit. Arround you will find other old buildings.
Very picturesque even with the scaffolding.
Site is constantly being renovated (every culture since the original construction who took control of the zone tried to do so - that gives you a hint on how remarkable the monument is- ) the past collides with the present in a quite respectful and non extra-polluting way which makes it just slightly less enjoyable than if it was left alone (and its important for the sustainability of the masterpiece) A pure history slap in the face!
A very nice old historical building with lots to discover. The one complaint I had was that there was a bunch of scaffolding on one side.
Very interesting, beautiful.
Simply astonishing!
A lifetime experience, absolutely amazing...
One of the most amazing and beautiful places I have been to
Top place!
