The name of the monastery originates from the place of the same name. The area where the monument is located was formerly part of Nig province. In the 10th century, the Pahlavuni became the owners of this region, and at the end of the 12th century, it was already within the Zakaryan government. In 1201, for military service, the Zakaryans dedicated Bjni and Kecharis to Khaghbakyan. Prince Vasak, who had just moved from his native Khachen province. Thus, the mentioned territories become the hereditary property of the Khaghbakyans. From the geographical point of view, the monastery of Ghuk was included in the region adjacent to the north-west of Bjni and belonged to the Episcopal Diocese of Bjni. In this connection, Prosh Khaghbakyans very important donation protocol, engraved on the wall of the church, is quite regular.
