They survived! Its such a pleasure having this amazing space in Amsterdam. Its beautiful and they really try and give the animals the best care they can. The staff REALLY care about all the creatures there. Its amazing for kids! Lots of grassy spaces for kids to run. Cafes for coffee, cakes, burgers and vegan options. And theres always a corner you havent seen before!
This is a very nice Zoo! Well kept plant borders and playing lawns, nice collection of animals. Enough room for sitting and places to buy a snack, drink or ice cream. We had a great time and were really impressed! Top of our list of Zoos..The only real tip I can give (not particular to only this Zoo): please clean your viewing windows continuously.. Not only for viewing pleasure but also looking at it from a hygiene perspective nowadays.. (and yes, I know it is very unrewarding to do so, seeing it is undone in a heartbeat by the visitors. Look at it as cleaning the toilets at regular hourly intervals..)
No online app / map. Only noticed signs about a park route after having seen half the park. Isnt as densely packed as other parks, makes it actually feel like a park instead of just an arrangement of animals. Friendly staff spontaneously started talking to us about their edible gardens, she clearly had a love for her job. Overall can highly recommend for a casual zoo experience.
Nice but most of the zoo is under maintenance 😅
Love visiting here with my son, there are many different animals, open spaces and it feels like the animals are well cared for.Highly recommend
Nice zoo, nice experience, as grownups we loved it
This zoo is located in the middle of the city! It provides many services for guests to have a comfortable stay. The animals are well loved and all the best is provided. Animals that cannot receive adequate facilities are not kept at this zoo.
Went to this place/zoo last week for refreshing before we leaving Amsterdam, and to met with my wifes old colleagues with his daughter. It was amazing experience, the place was big, clean, and the animals type also various and plenty. There was some guide that kindly explain us about the environment of animals/plants/insects, etc.Its kid friendly place, the food area also not disappointing.Definitely will comeback again!
The Artis Zoo is divided into four main areas: the Zoo, the Planetarium, the Botanical Gardens and the Museum of Zoology. In the huge space allocated to countless species of animals and plants, you can admire a piece of each corner of the world, as well as the habitats provided for these living things. Carefully cared for, by a very loving staff, the animals do not lack anything, they are fed and they are offered a suitable living space, imitating in proportions of 90% their natural habitat. Its a place worth visiting.
Amazing for kids. It is being renovated so you can see already pretty nice stuff
Very good zoo, nice pavilion with butterflies.
It was a nice and fun experience to do in Amsterdam...
Funny, interesting...Highly recomended!
Great zoo, A lot of tree made a nice shades, Easy to walk around even when its noon time. Animals looks healthy and happy. They got plenty of space for them. You can easily spend 2-3 hours there.
Overall good. It needs improvement on some exibitions
Fantastic zoo. Walking through the grounds is pleasant and sets up a lovely mood for the trip. The variety of animals is good and the zoo doesnt smell like a zoo. The staff are friendly and the pathways are clean and tidy. The play area near the giraffes is excellent. Well worth a visit
Amazing Zoo in the heart of Amsterdam. Great variety of fauna from all continents. Suggest time to spend will be half day.Several cafes, snacks and restaurants are available inside.
One of the best city-animal-parks we ever visited!
Really great place in the middle of the city, surprised that there was space for a zoo. Lion enclosure seemed a bit small, bit otherwise looked like more animals were still in spacious enclosures. It can get a bit crowded with children, but what can you expect from a zoo? Lots of neat stuff to see, I personally recommend the small animal house!
Awesome zoo, very educational complete. Beautiful collection, much greenery and lots of monumental buildings. When visiting, dont forget to visit the reptile hall, with many rare species. Food and drinks are expensive, so you can save a whole lot of money by bringing your own food.
Done the evening walk in Artis (zoo). It was quiet interesting, and about nature around us and in the zoo and the city of Amsterdam. You download an app of Artis and with your phone and earset you walk through and around the zoo and will discover a lot of things wich you dont notice during daytime. Its really nice. All animals you still can visite during this walk. Its really enjoyeble and really recommendable. Although Dutch wetter isnt always relyable (it was raining and lightning) we enjoyed it a lot 😉 an umbrella or poncho you can buy at the zoo shop 😁
Really nice place to spend hours. Its not the biggest zoo I have ever seen, however very well used spaces and with healthy and beautiful animals! Pretty good experience! Will come back in the future for sure!
Really beautiful place!💚
Beautiful Zoo very well maintained and welcoming
While this isnt the largest or most diverse zoo Ive been to, there are two things I really enjoyed here:1. The location - set along beautiful canals, the view makes this zoo experience unlike anything Ive experienced in other zoos. Its also easy to reach by public transportation.2. The animal enclosures - it seems like a lot of care was taken by zoo staff to ensure the animals are relatively comfortable and have space to move around. I especially loved the usage of large water elements to keep the animals safely contained without having to resort to ugly, dull bars and cages.
Pictures say more than words. wonderful day at the zoo. Super well maintained (including the toilets). Friendly staff, great construction of the enclosure. love to come back. A student discount is unfortunately only available for the universities in Amsterdam. But 25 € are acceptable.
Amazing place to spend a couple of hours in. It is very large, full of nature and obviously animals. Great experience, do not miss the sea lions and the butterfly greenhouse
What a beautiful and impressive zoo. Everything is well designed and the animals have lots of space. We especially enjoyed the small petting zoo for our three-year-old daughter, and the aquarium. Also, a truly amazing playground! Lots of places to eat and sit too, plus the mini pancakes are amazing. Easy to get around with a stroller.
Good zoo, the animals seemed well looked after, but it is quite small
A nice place to visit if you are with your kids. Also if you are a animal lover. You can see the lion and giraffe real close. Also the elephants. It was fun seeing the seals. The also have a underground viewing of seals swimming inside water. They were playful. The restaurant inside is vegan and was okay with the price.
Very well made zoo. Big variaty of animals. Perfect for families with little children.
Beautiful animals and very nice staff
Perfect place for kids and family. Open spaces where you see animals without any mesh and cages. Take a good camera with you as you will have a lot of opportunities to make a perfect shot. Tickets better to buy in web in advance (to register in system take your hotel ZIP code). Restaurang inside is good, but prices are as shall be in such places))) Very nice big playground inside.
Loved it here! Favourite part is the monkeys of course :) you get to enter their enclosure and stand right next to them as they climb about and eat. They also have a large variety of birds throughout the park, in enclosures or not - Herons and other wild birds thrive here, including green parakeets. All the animals seem very happy and have very creative enclosures which often means you can get closer and see them better. Catching the Lions feeding was the coolest thing! Definitely worth going, Ill be visiting again :)
Always a good day out beautiful old trees and lovely gardens highly recommend.
Very nice historic zoo. But Id prefer a zoo without imprisoned primates and seals.
My favorite zoo in Europe. Great to see how they keep on improving the shelters for the animals. Love to go there again.
Always great to bring your kids for some animation and education. Of course there is a part where we have to educate them about captivity and freedom as well.
Probably one of the better zoos I have been too, with a different selection of animals.
An amazing zoo, very good range of animals with some really cool and open enclosures allowing you to get up quite close to the animals. Theres also some parts where you can walk around in the enclosure with some animals which is really cool. Id also massively recommend the butterfly enclosure. You can spend a good few hours here.
Great place to visit with children or alone. Can be sometimes crowded and some buildings are close for renovation but still worth to come... Also you can enjoy food and drinks also inside.
Amazing zoo, well worth a visit. Fantastic range of animals who were all more active than in any zoo I’ve visited before. Definitely a must see if you’re in Amsterdam!
Very good!
Very nice zoo,You can easely spend here a half a day,
My boyfriend took me here, the ticket for adults was 25€ and you can purchase it online. Was so happy to see flamingos, penguins, giraffe and zebra. Other than that, they have a variety of mammals, reptiles, insects, birds, and etc! I want to take my kids here soon.
Its a 50/50 experience. Some of the enclosures are beautifully designed and generous. The other half is really cramped and crowded. For example the Lions have an extremely small area.
When Im visiting a new city, I always have at list a zoo and Amsterdam wasnt exception. :) Its pretty big, with all major kinds of animals, with some like open zones with kangaroos and lemurs, which are running and jumping around you (youd better not touch them). Also, there are special places for children, whats I suppose very important for families.I recommend you to get there if you have time and a good weather in Amsterdam:)
Great place. There Is even aquarium and many nice plants and trees. I recommend the visit even for adult
Great place, my family and I have been a fan of this place since the first time we went. We will continue to support and encourage others to enjoy its beauty. I love the never ending turns of something new to see. And the occasional realization that were in the middle of the city, which is amazing. My experience this last trip was great. I cant lie it was warm and that made some places miserably warm but hey thats part of the beauty of it. And of course there are people who cannot pay attention to the rules and read directions during this covid-19 crisis, but the park is well stocked with hand sanitizer stations and washing stations, they also have extra staff in parts of the park to encourage the following of rules and designated walking routes. Overall I was extremely pleased with my experience and my family had a great day. Thank you for a great memory!
Great day out. The animals are well taken care of and they are building better and bigger spaces for them.
Nice zoo with various animals. Enjoyed the time with my daughter there
Very nice experience. Note- get some cash/coins if you are looking for wheel chair assistance.Plan a entire day tour.
My favorite zoo since I was a little girl 🥰 last time I saw that the aquarium was closed so I hope that it opens soon.I would also recommend to go to one of the movies at the beginning of the park
What a fabulous zoo right in the middle of Amsterdam! Amazingly, this zoo has lots to offer and more animals than one would expect from a zoo located in the center of a city in the heart of Europe. Lions, butterflies, apes and birds. A planetarium. An aquarium. Seals and elephants. Insects and sloths. Totally worthwhile and another gem among Amsterdam’s multitudinous charms.
Loved it.
Wide zoo with plenty of animals 🐒🦍🦁🦓
Best zoo in town! Cosy, green and wonderful historical place. Must see, be kind to animals.
Really nice place to visit. Please take some coins, you may need it to get the kids carrer.
Loved loved this zoo...so much to see and do. Could have easily spent the whole day there. Will visit again next time we come to Amsterdam
They did some upgrades where you can walk where the animals are free one of.the oldest zoo in the world good stuff
This place is absolutely huge, its really interesting to visit and has plenty of different animals.I really liked the aquarium and the possibility to see the sea lions underwater. Another beautiful part is the building dedicated to butterflies that flies free inside the building.I also paid a visit to the planetarium but sadly the projection was only in Dutch and not in English so I could not understand anything, for a place that attract so many tourists I expected to find the projection in English.Ill share here some of the picture I made today in the hope that others come to visit this awesome place.
Most enjoyable, some exhibits could do with renovation and updating but not bad for an inner city zoo
This Zoo is so modern with lots of animals relatively free to roam, very little caging which was a pleasant surprise. Great views of Amsterdam from the edges of the zoo. I would recommend to anyone.
Ive seen a few zoos but this is special. In many areas there are few or no barriers, you are literally walking through animal enclosures. The personnel is very helpful, ask about anything if youre curious! And the butterfly room... Its like being in a fairytale.Couldnt recommend this place enough, its most definitely worth your money.
The zoo is right in the center of the city. It is nice and beautiful.Flamingos and Penguins are the major attractions.
Excellent urban zoo well-worth the cost of admission! The monkey/bat/lizard house was a favorite to which we kept returning, and all the exhibits were well thought-out and interesting. The aquarium is fun, and there are plenty of different dining options. The playground over by the elephants was a huge hit for adults and kids. We will definitely return!
Love the aquarium, planetarium just to name a few.
Nice place to visit. Very good place for hangout too.
Fantastic information about the animals, plants and park. They do good research as well. Its a historical place.
Very nice place to visit. Good conditions for animals!
Wonderful zoo 👌
Excellent zoo, some cages are rather small though (hence 4* only). The lion is really sad on his rock, all alone. But the butterfly pavilion is magical. All the butterflies flying around you, in all their beautiful colors. The little monkeys are super cute.
Great place to spend a whole days in Amsterdam, if you are tired if channels and crowded narrow streets. We spent there 6+ hours 2 adults without kids!!!The zoo is really original, the animals are walking just near you like in a wild. There is Elephant family, Giraffe family and huge number of other animals from all over the world.Besides, there is a planetarium and aquarium there. really must visit , especially if you are with kids!
Beautiful place to visit with your family. Child friendly too. You can plan a picnic too if the weather is friendly. Lots of animals to see.
This zoo is amazing. You can get quite up close with the animals. There is a good variety of animals as well, including elephants, lions, gorillas, monkeys, sea lions, penguins....etc. It is an absolute must for kids. There are two playgrounds as well inside the zoo. Very well spaced out & its a great feeling to see nature & animals in the middle of the city. I highly recommend you visit especially if youre with a child.
Lovely experience. Advice to buy tickets online and save time without standing in queue. Small zoo but beautiful. Mixed species kept in one cage-boundary. I use boundary word as in many area, there is just water between you and animal. Seal show was damn crowded. Helpful signs all over. Aquarium was booked for some private event! Cage themes were well designed. Elephant show was also crowded but in bigger area.
Brilliant zoo. Very reasonable on prices. Staff were extremely friendly. Animals enclosures look very clean and well maintained, animals look in great condition and seem to be happy.. The zoo is quite big and you can easily spend half the day here.
Great zoo even if it is a bit expensive. There are lots of different animals and the free-roaming areas are fun to walk through. Food there is mediocre and expensive, better bring your own food and drinks. There is also an aquarium and butterfly park. In general, you can easily spent the whole day there.
Amazing lovely zoo with the cutest animals.Had a wonderful day and the prices are great for food and drinks. The Artis shop is a bit on the expensive side for plushies and other memorabilia.
The zoo is quite accessible. A lovely place to visit, lots of animal art, beautiful sculptures. Very expensive restaurant. Also a planetarium to visit and the Micropia museum next door. Accessible toilets.Wheelchair borrow system for those who cannot walk long distances.Great playground for the kids, although not accessible. The bridge to the restaurant is quite steep, better take the waterfall way on the other side of the playground.Gorgeous black panther, majestic elephants and many buildings housing all kinds of reptiles, monkeys, gorillas. Lots to see!
I love it, for many years a member
What an amazing zoo this is. There is a indoor area where the monkeys walk around you and the smallest ones are really cute. Outside there are elephants, giraffes, sea lions etc. The lemurs feeding time was really good and the staff are very informative. If you visit Amsterdam then this is a must! It is also very easy to get to.
This ZOO is really big! The are a lot of animals! You can find animals from different countries in the world, like tigers, lions, penguins, fish, monkeys, butterflies...If you are in Amsterdam you need to have a look at this place!
As a visiting Canadian, this was a good zoo compared to other zoos in other countries that Ive seen. The zoo is a good size. I found there was some interesting animals at this zoo that Ive never seen anywhere else. Animals such as a black spotted Jaguar, active Sloth, Bats, Red panda, wolves, Snow owls and a Chameleon. It was interesting because they also stressed in their messaging the impact of humans in the environment. It was a strong environmental message conveyed throughout the zoo. Park was relatively clean. We had ice cream from the ice cream stand by the entrance which was good.
