Beautiful monastery, really gorgeous inside.

Its nice to walk around this old monastery complex. We are the only visitors when we went there on a Monday so its very peaceful.

Quite a fascinating monastery complex steeped in history. Recommended that you bring a guide if you want to get the most out of it though.

Place for souls rest.

When we arrived, we didn’t really like the kiosks outside the monastery. Instead of being friendly and directing people to the monastery, one lady was just trying to sell you stuff. You can roam inside the monastery by yourself or i’ve seen some guests with a guide. I guessed, she is from there. The monastery is still functional, you can light candles for your prayers. It doesn’t really take long to explore the complex.

Full of history among all these stones. I walked through that hazy day which was so appropriate for the setting. Its easy to imagine the life of the monks given you get a good guide.

I’m not religious but this place is one of my spiritual inspirations in this country. Would advice to visit during “non-touristic” periods so you’ll be able to get some one on one time at this beautiful place.

Amazing historical place!

Long road but worth every minute spent to get there.

The most interesting part of the monastery for me would be its interior. Such a solitude and deserted atmosphere.Minivan number 3 from Alavari center go up to the village Sanahin every 30 min (amazing viewpoints on the way!). From the bus stop walk uphill around 2 km to the monastery.

Peaceful and beautiful

Beautiful place, incredible nature, high mountains, fresh air, natural healthy food. If you decided to visit Armenia, you should come to Lori region, visit Sanahin, Hagpat, Kobair, Akhtala monasteries, Lori berd fortress, Stepanavans dendropark and many other places.

There was a serenity here that I didnt find at the more frequently visited Haghpat. If you can only visit one monastery I would still visit Haghpat instead as it was more architecturally impressive, but if you have another 30-60 minutes to spare, dont hesitate to go here.

An Armenian monastery founded in the 10th century in the Lori Province of Armenia. The name Sanahin literally translates from Armenian as this one is older than that one, presumably representing a claim to having an older monastery than the neighbouring Haghpat Monastery.The two villages and their monasteries are similar in many ways, and lie in plain view of each other on a dissected plateau formation, separated by a deep crack formed by a small river flowing into the Debed river.

Similar with Haghpat but different feeling. Should visit both place. Sanahin is more lonesome. but its more attractive point.

A great, wonderful place.The monastery complex is cool. You can get there using the ropeway from Alaverdi. The village is adjacent to Alaverdi. And from Sanahin you can see Haghpat.Every tourist travelling in Armenia should visit this place!

The Ancient Spirit is felt here. I grew up in the vicinity and often came here when there were not many tourists. The incredible atmosphere of ancient harsh power ... Try to come when there are few people. Listen to the silence ... Its wonderful here, especially in summer, when its hot outside, and inside is cool!
