The masterpiece of Akbars time, Delhi Gate was built between 1568-69 to the western side of the fort and served as the principal gateway of the fort. It was purposefully designed to enhance the security of the fort. A wooden drawbridge was used to cross the moat and reach the fort from the mainland. Sharp curves, trap points and brick-paved ramp were devised to obstruct the path of the invading army. High and mighty bastions further strengthened the fort. Inside, there was another gateway by the name of Hathi Pol or Elephant-Gate. It was so named because of the two lifesize sculptures of elephants were erected here in such a manner that their upturned trunks made an archway. Today, one can see only the pedestals of these masonry elephants.

Its a place of historic importance and yet.. It is so unkempt.. The building is further abused by heavy uncontrolled traffic and littering often coz of the surrounding shops and vendors... I wish we can take better care of our treasures... Lest it soon shall dwindle to ruins..

Near by raja ki mandi railway station, but full traffic during noon due to schools and hospitals. Late night shops are open well secured, as police chowkey is very close. Thanks to UP100 and RPF officers as they are always on round up. Hotels like Chokha Jeeman, East lite, Yadav dhaba Shaliza hotel, Amba inn etc are very famous for food quality and services. Also thanks to Swiggy and Zomato for delivering food to the areas as per the customers choice.

Delhi Gate is the southern gate of many in the historic walled city of (Old) Delhi, or Shahjahanabad. The gate links the New Delhicity with the old walled city of Delhi. It stands in the middle of the road, at the end of Netaji Subhash Chandra Road (or Netaji Subhash Marg), at the edge of the Daryaganj. The Gate was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1638 as part of the rubble–built high fort walls that encircled the Shahajahanabad, the seventh city of Delhi. The emperor used this gate to go to the Jama Masjid for prayer.

This was the most important gate of Agras Mughal Chabaddivar. With this it was traveled towards Mathura, Delhi and Lahore. Kos Minar was built a little further on this route. Every Kos Minar had arrangements for lodging of passengers and a well. Delhi Gate is made of red stone. Here in the inscription is written Hindi Door in Hindi and English.Keeping in mind the convenience of going to the city, the road has been made separately in front of the widest road. This building has been declared protected by the Archaeological Survey of India on December 22, 1920. Nowadays Its Famous Crossing of Agra. Delhi Gate is Also Famous for various Food Joints and Special 24×7 Tea Stall.
